Disney done differently, (BOG dining updates pages 202 and 203)

wahoo...now you have to tell me what the mustang convention is!

Mustangs at Mickyard. Held Labor Day weekend at Disney Speedway! Not sure if we are going as registering a mustang or just going as spectators.

Now we also have another event on the calendar. We are going to MNSSHP for the first time in 7 years!!

Part 1: Check in. There's Someone in our Room!!??

I'm skipping a whole bunch of day trips and fast forwarding, or perhaps rewinding back to two weekends ago. It was our bounceback from May's trip to Coronado Springs. This time we stayed only two nights at Pop Century Resort.

We arrived at the resort around noon. I checked in while Dh and Anakin went to the food court to meet up with friends of ours.

The room was ready and I was handed the check in packet! They even gave us a credit because Grumpy wasn't with us, so we didn't have to pay the 3rd adult fee! This brought the room down to about $66/night!!!

At the food court, I decided to try something different. I got the vegetarian calzone. DH got the meatball sandwich. Anakin got a gluten free pizza with pepperoni.

Anakin did not like his pizza. Not sure if it was the crust or the parmesan cheese he loaded on it. I tasted it and didn't like it either. He said he wasn't really hungry anyway. He had eaten breakfast before we left.

Our friends were very disappointed. They are on a special diet (I think Atkin's). They are locals and this was their first time eating at Pop since June. They always get a greek salad. There was no Greek salad. Now the salad choice is a build your own. That would have been great, but they didn't like any of the salad dressing choices. They asked if there was still Ken's Greek salad dressing available. They were told no. So they ended up getting a chicken sandwich minus the bread. As I said, they were disappointed and probably won't go back to POP until they are off their diet.

Our friends are snow birds and they hadn't checked out AoA since they left in early June. Our plan was to leave them in the food court while we find the room, unpack the car then meet back up with them. We didn't think it would take too long.

Upon check in, I asked where abouts in building 3 our room was located. The cm drew a mark on the map where he thought we were. Unfortunately that was incorrect. We parked the car in one of the 50's lots, the one that shares parking with the Little Mermaid section.

Then we were off on a search for the room with our bags. I packed well this time! One suitcase for all our clothing and a cosmetic bag. Anakin had his own suitcase packed with his toys.

The parking was by building 2. We had to walk pass there to building 3. We should have followed the path along the lake, but the cm showed thought we were on the other side of the building. So we walked a straight line through building 2 to building 3. Saw the area he said was incorrect, so we asked mousekeeping. She told us where to go, and another mousekeeper walked us almost to our room!!

We ended up in a standard room with a lake view! Not just a lake view, but a view of the Little Mermaid section! We also had a lovely view of the smoking area. I was concerned the smell of smoke would enter our room, but that never happened!

When we arrived at the room, there was a purple sign in the key slot. It said that someone was in our room performing maintanance.

Apparently she was in there because the toilet didn't work and a curtain rod was broken. It sure would have been nice to be told this at check in!! Good thing we had taken that hour to eat lunch before going to our room. Too bad, I didn't use the restroom at the Classic Hall though, lol.

She was very sweet. She allowed Anakin to watch her and explained what she was doing.

We put our suitcases in the room and I took pictures. I was tempted to ask her if I could take a picture of her working, but I didn't. I just took room pics.

I don't remember the last time we stayed at Pop. Whenever it was, Pop did not have refrigerators. Now they have a mini-fridge in the room!

The shampoo bottles changed since our CSR stay in May! Back then we got Tink bottles that had a grapefruit scent. This time it was an all in one shampoo/conditioner in a Mickey bottle with and the scent was Blushing Orange. I thought the Mickey cap topper was just adorable!!

Another change since our last Pop stay was the addition of free wifi!!

We left her to her work and went back to the food court to meet our friends. Our room was a quick walk to the food court!

Up next...exploring the AoA, in particular the Little Mermaid Section.

bummer about the lunch...know Anakin probably had fun with the maintenance lady! nice view!

yup the value's now have fridges :thumbsup2, next they need the coffee pots!

I'm not a coffee drinker so that wouldn't make a difference for me. But the refrigerator was such a convenience!! Anakin is a huge milk drinker. It was nice to be able to keep a bottle of milk in their.

My lunch and dh's lunches were very good!

That's too bad about the menu changes. I am not a fan of too much parmesan on my pizza. It may be a texture thing. I can hardly wait to see the next installment.

Reminds me of the shampoo bottles we had at the Hollywood Hotel in Hong Kong. Not only did we get Mickey head shampoo, but they even gave us paper cups (printed with different characters) with plastic Mickey heads. We brought several of each home with us.

Nice start, Tink. We had different toiletries at OKW as well (but our bottles didn't have a Mickey head on them...but a Tinkerbelle on the bottle and ours were grapefruit--and I didn't like them at all).

Glad to see Pop now has a mini-fridge.

I want the new Shampoo and Soap from POP :rotfl: We took aload of those home when we stayed in POP but they weren't as cute as that with Mickey ears on the cap!

Thanks!

We got those Tink ones at CSR in May. I didn't like the scent at first either. The grapefruit almost made it smell like BO. But I got use to them, and actually bought shampoo and conditioner of the Tinks and and shampoo and conditioner of the Mickeys.

Our Tink's at CSR didn't have Tink wings or Mickey ears either. You know I'm a huge Tink fan, but the Mickey ears ones definately said Disney more.

Next trip! And I will put aside one bottle for you this weekend when we stay at POP in case they don't have them when you come back on your next trip.

They better have them :rotfl: I actually asked one of the cleaning ladies for extra ones the day I was going home the last time so have like six soaps and 4 shampoos even though only stayed there two nights lol! Free souvenier :cool1:

I agree with everyone else, I think the new shampoos look super cute with the Mickey caps and I am glad the values finally got mini fridges. I loved the view out your room of the Little Mermaid section of AoA. My favorite part was the food pictures though, everything looked so yummy with your great camera. :thumbsup2

They don't usually change out that fast. I'm sure they will. But just in case, you know I got your back. :thumbsup2

The mini fridge was the best improvement at POP.

We're use to looking out at parking lots, so the view was worth the extra walk from the car imho.

The camera was the best anniversary gift dh has ever given me! Judy agreed on Thursday. Got great pics of the girls!

Parking lot views can be so boring. I would rather an extra walk for a view.

If we are going to the parks, the parking lot is convenient. It was a good 5 minute walk to the car. We were closer to the Classic Hall than the parking lots.

But we were there for the resort, so the walk was no problem. We were at a great location! It was quiet, not much foot traffic. We could see illuminations from outside out room. Higher up would have had a better view, but I requested 1st floor.

I love when you can see things like that from your room or near your room so you don't have to deal with the crowds as much.

Wish the menu changes were to your friends liking. :worried:

I wonder if they'd like Landscapes of Flavor better?

Seriously love the mickey head toppers on the shampoo!!
Definitely a lot cuter than we we've gotten in the past! :thumbsup2

I wonder what we'll end up with from all the different places we'll end up staying? :goodvibes

Great room and lunch pictures! The view was perfect. Glad to see values adding fridge and wifi. After our stay at Swan and Dolphin in March we will look at Pop for Nov or Dec. Cant wait to see Disney at Christmas!!!

When they didn't like anything, I had suggested we take Anakin's pizza over to AoA and we eat there. But they were fine ordering the chicken they said.

To me the scent is a bit more masculine. Kind of reminds me a little of Old Spice, but softer.

I'll look forward to your report to find out!

So 2 trips for 2013?! The Swan and Dolphin are nice. I've been in their rooms when Dagny and WDWR stayed there a few years ago. Actually based on a picture that was recently posted on facebook, it might have been 7 years ago.

It was funny to see the picture, I was in much better shape and alot thinner, and had platinum blond hair.

I am off to Pop century again! We are going to MNSSHP TONIGHT!!! It's been 7 years since we last went, longer for dh. I sure hope our room is ready when we check in!

We have an ADR for an early dinner at The Plaza. But I'm thinking of cancelling it. We went to the F&W Festival on Friday and Anakin could only handle 3 hours there. So I'm rethinking my plans for tonight.

We want to see the parade and villian show for sure. Anakin wants to see Duffy, Dopey, Mickey/Minnie, Daisy/Donald, for sure.

He does not want to see Gaston. He said Gaston is too frightening. Yet he wants to see Dr. Facilier? He said he wants to tell him he's defeated him a bunch of times on the Sorcerer's game.

He doesn't care about the princesses since they are wearing the same costume, but he would like to see Flynn Rider. I think we may head here after the dwarfs to cool down from the long wait before the party starts. (Rather wait during "free" time than party time, right?)

I will not tell him about the dance parties or he'd want to spend the entire time there. Instead I will save them for if everything else is too crowded. With the ToT run last night and Epcot's 30th on Monday, I have no idea what attendance will look like for tonight. Friday's was sold out! I was told the dance party in Frontierland is indoors in the airconditioning, so that's the one we'd head to.

I'm not taking a laptop with us, so any checking in will be lurking from my phone.

I hope you all have an excellent weekend!! Boo to you!

:hippie::darth::yoda: This is a hint to our costumes, it's the closest smilies to what we are wearing. Any guesses?

I'm so excited that you're going to the party tonight! I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get to see and do everything you want! Looking forward to seeing all the pictures.
