When you spring clean do you wash the ceilings?

I'm spring cleaning one room at a time, and was taking to someone about needing a new mop to wash the ceilings. She claimed no one does this... But when I do a real deep clean, I clean everything. Everything gets emptied and cleaned, things get cleaned and put back in... And the walls and ceilings all get washed. I don't think it's weird! Also, it's a twice a year thing, not an everyday sort of cleaning. (When I had the popcorn type ceilings, I didn't, but these ones I can wash!)

I guess it depends on what you mean by washing? Do you mean soap/water? or dry mop for cobwebs and such? If you mean soap/water, then no I don't. But I do dry mop to collect dust and cob webs. I don't wash my walls either unless there are finger prints from the kids or a specific area that has a lot of wear to it. Dusting, I definitely do though.

Oh good then I'm not loosing it! With my menopausal brain and teenagers it very well could have been me.




I still don't wash the ceilings even in the spring!

I just posted this question on my facebook and within minutes I had replies that said "are you on crack" and "what are you smoking" regarding cleaning ceilings LOL. I can't imagine what my housecleaner would tell me if I asked her to clean the ceilings LOL.

I wash the ceilings before painting. However I do dust them occasionally.

Most rooms, no. Unless for painting, or when we moved into our house or when I helped my Dad get their house ready for sale. However, I do try to do the kitchen ceilings from time to time. When we moved into our house, we could tell the ceiling hadn't been done for awhile. Lots of grease which meant stuff stuck to it. I'm not a great housekeeper, but I don't want it to get that bad.

Soap and water? No. Periodically use the long pole on the vacuum or an extended reach duster (and a ladder..we have vaulted ceilings) to make sure there is not dust/cobwebs..yes.

I can't wash them, I have "cottage cheese" ceilings. I do use the hose on the vaccuum on them.

For ceilings and walls in most rooms of my house I only do cobwebs, spots, dust, etc. when noticeable. In the kitchen and bathrooms, I occasionally (rare occasions!) take a mop and do all the reachable surfaces if I notice a need.

I have a pressed tin ceiling in the kitchen and do wash it a couple of times a year.

I used to when I had smooth ceilings I could wash without getting on a ladder. I never mopped them I'd get up on a kitchen chair an old one from the 50's that was very sturdy an scrub the ceilings with cleaner an a rag. Just like scubbing floor but I was doing the ceiling. Used to do that every spring an fall. That was when I was younger an smoked in my house.

Scrubbed all the walls every 6 months. Took down all the light covers cleaned those too. But then there was a time in my life I took everything out of closets an cleaned those every 2 weeks too.

This will be 1 of the few falls in my life that I don't do fall cleaning but then I bought a house that we closed on on June 20th. DH an I have spent all summer replacing walls that was water damaged an moldy. We have painted. I've scrubbed every floor 2 or 3 times. We move in Oct 1st I still got to redo the master bedroom floor got it dirty again. an the kitchen an I got to wax the shower walls yet. I think I got the fall cleaning covered other than normal daily cleaning.

My Grandmother, who washed trees and her sidewalk on her hands and knees, didn't wash her ceilings. She painted them every couple of years and dusted the corners and edges every week-no washing and she was OCD about cleaning.

I do not wash my ceilings. I might if a skillet caught on fire in the kitchen or something lke that.

Is this auto-correct, or did she really wash trees??

That said, I clean as little as possible so my ceilings get dusted when/if I see cobwebs.
