:wave2: Hi everyone, well i'm still pretty new to the DISboards and the whole forum thing but decided its time to start my planning journal and get myself, my thoughts and ideas and plans organised and all in one place! :wave2:

This is one of the first pictures of us! :lovestruc

its not the very first one, i have our first picture together framed in our livingroom and i'm looking at it right now but for some reason i cant find it on my laptop anywhere :furious::sad: :(

About Us
Well my names Debra and i'm 22 years old, fiances name is Richard and he's almost 26. We live in Scotland UK. I'm a fully qualified nursery practitioner, I graduated from college in Dec 2009 and I have my mum and richard to thank for being there to support me through those two tough years. I'm now a room supervisor looking after a bunch of little children aged 1-2years and i love it!

Richard is a chef working in a local restaurant. He's worked there since the year before we met. Its been hard working around his long hours and there are times when I wish we both worked 8-6 and then we're done for the night and had weekends together but we'r used to it now, we learned how to make the most of our time together and we now live together which makes it easier to spend a little time together each day.

We share lots of common interests. We both love metal and rock music and without fail we'v been at Download music festival every year since we met (09,10,11,12 and plans for next year too!)

We also both love playing games and watching dvds and going to the pics popcorn::
The other main thing we do is spend a lot of time with our nephew, taking him places like the zoo, safari park, sealife centre, to local parks or swimming.

We love him to bits, he looks up to richard and richard dotes on him. He's our first nephew, and Richard's sister gave birth to him in 2009 when we'd been together for a year so he's always known us as Uncle Richard and Auntie Debbie. He really is a bundle of joy and has a love of all things disney (as richards sister is almost as disney mad as me!) so i'm so excited to be the reason for his first WDW trip and I cant wait to see his face when he sees mickey mouse for the first time!

Our relationship
We met through a random app online on the social networking site BEBO. the app was for sending smiles :) to people by looking at pictures. I wasnt really looking for a relationship I was just kind of bored! I almost didnt "smile" at richard as i was about to close the app but i figured he whats one more smile?
when he "smiled" back and we began talking I was happy to have found someone who only lived 20mins away from me! I was almost 18 and had just passed my driving test and got my first car so after realising we had friends in common (my 2 best friends were in the year above me at school so they were old enough to go into town and drink in nightclubs and bars etc the boyfriend of one of my friends was also friends with richard so they knew him through drinking in a group setting in our now favourite metal music bar in edinburgh) with my best friends approval and after speaking on msn constantly for about 3 weeks we arranged to meet up. Since I was only 17 an richard was 21 i told my parents i was going to the cinema with my 2 best friends and not some random boy i'd met online who happened to be 4years older than me!
Our first date was amazing and i went home feeling the happiest i'd ever felt before.:cloud9: (04/06/08 i could this as our anniversary date as its the first day we met in person)
Our second date was only a week later and to pizza hut and then to his parents house to play guitar hero:woohoo: (To my parents this was and is still known as our first date).
I turned 18 a month later and we spent a lot of time partying with my friends and his friends. Our friends are all sorta merged into one big group now!

In the 4 and a half years we'v been together we'd been to so many places and events!

We finally moved in together! - January 2012 we found a lovely little flat to rent that was half way between both our works and also half way between both sets of families!:thumbsup2:woohoo::yay:

The proposal
Since Richard is a chef he is given the choice to work christmas or new year as his restaurant is open all year round and never closes for even a day! He normally chooses to work xmas day and have new year off so we'v worked out a pretty good routine where I spend christmas morning and lunch with my family then pick him up from work at 5pm and spend christmas evening with his family (and stay overnight so i can have some drinks without worrying about driving home)
Christmas day 2010-proposal!
This year richard had christmas day off for the first time in years. We decided we would do the same as we'd done the previous two years with me splitting my time between my family and his. I did have quite a few hints a proposal was coming but it wasnt until a friend at work pointed out how all the hints could lead to a proposal that i started to suspect he might. But i secretly thought he'd hold off until the summer (2011) and do something hugely romantic like propose infront of cinderella's castle or something. I supose he never thought of this and when asked why he picked xmas day he said it was so he could remember the date!
so the hints were;
normally he asks me what i'd like as a present, he'd not asked me for any ideas of presents so far.
we were saving up to move out together and for spending money for the upcoming florida trip, but everytime i mentioned tht we shouldnt spend a lot of money on each other this year he'd avoid the question or get angry with me for bugging him about it so much.
the third hint was when i was sitting speaking to his mum one night and richard was upstairs watching football with his dad. Him and his dad are obsessed with football(soccer to you americans!) and i get on really well with his mum so this situation was quite a regular occurance for us. His mum was telling me/showing me how she had his sisters wedding ring as she was taking it to the jewellers for her to get it resized as it was now too big for her and she was afraid of losing it. Completely by my own choice i took the ring and tried it on. i dont remember what finger i put it on but i'v now come to the conclusion this is how he found out what size to get as i never had any rings before my engagement ring and i'd never had my finger sized.

So on the 25th of December 2010 when i arrived at his house with my family and presents in tow I'd completely forgotten about a possible proposal. I quickly said hi to everyone in the livingroom then left my family to say their hellos while i went upstairs to dump my overnight bag in his bedroom. Richard followed me up and came in and gave me a big hug  He was holding onto me for longer than normal, gripping tighter than normal and i could kind of feel him shaking. I asked what was wrong and said we should go back downstairs which was when he got down on one knee still holding onto me. He was so nervous he spoke so quietly that he was almost whispering! Turns out he was petrified i'd say no! AS IF! So of course i said yes! We went downstairs and shared the news and the rest of the evening is a blur of happiness!

The engagement party
Since our funds were low we knew it would be a good few years before we'd be able to have our dream wedding in florida we decided to have an engagement party to celebrate our happy news with all our friends and family. We hired a hall, got a cake and dj and mine and his mums organised the buffet. We had around 80guests turn up and it was a great night full of smiles, dancing and quite a lot of drinking! oppps :lmao: we have some great memories though and dont regret a thing about it.

Disney and us!
So on a previous trip to WDW with my family when i was only 14, I'd seen the Wedding Pavillion from the monorail and instantly feel head over heels in love with the place! since then i'v had my heart set on getting married there. I'd been very open with richard from when we first met that this was i wanted to get married and he'd always been happy with it. We didnt look into it too much until after the engagement tho!
us at the wedding pavillion

examining how small the castle would look in photos!

The decision to get married in florida has caused a few problems so far. Firstly it means we have had to restrict it to close family only. I'd love my 2 best friends and their partners to come but their all not long finished university, have quite a bit of debt and dont all have full time well paid jobs yet. Its too much to ask them to save up for a trip to florida, which is very expensive from the uk even for a week. There is the same issue with richards best friend who he'd like as his best man but is yet to confirm if he can afford it (we both sadly doubt that he can:worried:)

We have distant family (cousins etc and family friends) who are abit annoyed we'v choosen to get married in florida as they wont be able to come (also mainly for money reasons) For me i'm quite happy we'r just inviting immediate family as we'r both quite shy and dont like being the centre of attention, it stops any jealously or problems between the families eg my cousin came to the wedding and his didnt, his aunt and uncle attended but mine couldnt etc etc and secondly Richard's mum is a very welcoming person and believes family celebrations should involve EVERYONE. if she was able to make up the guest list we'd end up with about 100-150 guests including some of her family in america who neither me or richard have ever met!

The last issue so far has been granparents. My gran, his nana and papa and his nana b have never been on a plane since before we were both born. So a 9hour flight would not b the easiest thing for them to handle. Then the heat in florida in june would be very hard for them to handle. Getting around would also be a problem for them all. My gran has good health but his papa and nana b dont and healthwise a doctor would not recommend either of them to fly/holiday in florida at summer temperatures and humidity. Travel insurance would be very hard to come by for them all.
My gran has always said since i was 14 that she'l get a big hat and get on a plane and come to florida for my wedding but she's recently admitted that as much as she wants to be there, its best she stays at home.
His nana and papa have been stubborn from the start, telling me i need to give up my "dream wedding" there is no way they are missing their only grandsons wedding! since then they'v warmed a little to the idea and the current situation from them is that they are saving up the money and will make the final decision nearer the time but after speaking to Richard's mum a few month ago(nana and papa are her mum and dad) she agrees that its not a good idea for them to come and that papa's health would only get worse if they were to come.

Obviously with the wedding still being just under 2 years out theres nothing that is officially confirmed but these are the plans we'v made so far.

Wedding Date: 4th June 2014
Ceremony Location: Swan West Courtyard
Ceremony Time: i'm hoping for either a mid morning or lunchtime ceremony
Hair/makeup: my sister is going to do it for me so we have plenty time to practise and perfect it.
WDW Reception: Dinner at a nice restaurant, still to be decided
Wedding Night: we plan to watch the fireworks as a married couple from the poly beach or possibly contemporary rooftop.
UK Reception: will have a reception similar to our engagement party when we return home. still to book a hall etc
Bridal Party/Guest list: Me and Richard
My Mum and Dad
My sister (Bridesmaid) and partner (either her best friend who travelled with us to WDW last year or boyfriend-she's jus started seeing someone so its a bit early to be discussing going to a wedding thats 2 years away)
Richard's Mum and Dad
Richard's sister and brother-in-law and our nephew(best man if richard's best friend cant make it like we think then we plan on having our nephew who will be 5 step up to the role and his dad/richard's dad can help him look after the rings and do anything else he's too little for)
Accomodation: Plan to hire villa's off property for 2 weeks during which we'l probably have a room in my parents villa (purely because that works out better numberswise and if we stayed in a villa with richard's family they'd need a bigger villa and my parents would have 1 or possibly 2 empty rooms.)
We plan to get two villa thats are either next to each other or a few houses apart as we'l prob do a lot of things together for most of the first week with my family being frequent visitors to Orlando and richard's family being on their first visit.
Honeymoon: We plan to stay in WDW for the 3rd week and for all the family to either go home or do their own thing. If all family only stay for 2 weeks we will try to book the magical express to the airport. We are undecided on a hotel officially but we'd like to stay in the poly.

As you know I had my heart set on the WP but with the price of a DFTW and our numbers being so low we'v decided that the SC would be much better suited to us and it was our favourite hotel we visited while hotel hopping/gate crashing last summer!

I'v had an initial email from just marry answering a few questions and giving information on their packages and services.
Awaiting prices+packages from Vicki/David Arnt photography. need to email a few other photographers including Randy Chapman to get prices+packages from them also.
Planning to buy a mickey+minnie wedding cake topper to use on both wedding cakes, the one we'l have at the swan and the one we'l have when we get home. For the ceremony we're just going to go with one of justmarry's cakes. purely because there's only going to be 11 of us and a week or so to eat a 2 tier cake as we cant take it back on the plane :( now i love cake but even this sounds like too big a task for me! It doesnt make sense to spend a lot of money upgrading a cake when theres a chance a lot of it will go to waste so if we save the money on the cake there we can spend a bit more and get a 4tier cake for our reception back home and be able to get the perfect cake we want.

I'm planning on wearing my wedding dress for the wedding and the reception back home. Possibly considering buying a shorter wedding dress to change into after the ceremony depending on what we decide to do for our wedding evening and meal.

Richard has decided he wants to wear a kilt for the ceremony and a ghilli shirt. He's picked the Isle of Skye tartan. Will post a pic in the morning.

Also realised that i'v been trying to do the pictures wrong so will correct this/post the pictures tomorrow *** for now i'm off to the land of zzzzzzzzzz

thanks shana cant wait to get more things planned didnt think i had much 2 write about planning wise but when i decided to start from the beginnin an include everythin so far think i had enough for a good start!

so its sunday afternoon and i'm kinda bored so thought i'd include a short update even though theres not much to share:(

first of all i mentioned before that rich had picked the tartan for the kilt he wants to wear. Its called the Isle Of Skye Tartan and looks something like this
images.jpg

the colours vary slightly from shop to shop as different kilt makers use slightly different threads but its basically got bout 4 different shades of green in it from light to dark, a hint of a yellow/lemonish colour and it has light purple/lilac in it.

I showed it to my sister and said she could pick either lilac or a matching purple or one of the shades of green for her dress. She replied she didnt want a pastel coloured dress so i'm guessing she's gonna have a shade of green then! :crazy2: if it was me as a bridesmaid personally i'd rather wear lilac than green but my sisters a law all to herself fashion wise and she makes anything look good *** she has the confidence that she jus doesnt care what anyone else thinks. i'm not fussed what colour she picks as long as she's happy wearing it :confused3

recently me and fiance looked at the disney cakes feed here on the disboards somewhere! When i talk wedding cakes its for our reception back home not for in florida. On our wedding day we'r jus gonna go with the cheapest basic cake just marry can do. We cant afford two big cakes and it makes sense to keep the big cake for the big reception back home than have a big fancy cake in florida for it to go to waste *** we ran out of time to eat it before our flight home and theres not many of us to share it with.
So here's our choice of topper
MickeysDelight-RoundStandard.jpg

going to visit my local disney store next time i get a chance and if they dont have it or cant order it i'm gonna cross my fingers that i can order it online. anyone know where (online) that i can definitely get it from and send it to the UK?
tier design
MickeyWave-SmallSilver.jpg

Rich pointed this one out, he really liked it and i like it too so i'v been in touch with a couple of local bakers/cake makers who say they could make this cake for us. We'r thinking 4 tiers but we'v not thought about flavours at all yet.

Going dress shopping next month! :woohoo: dont plan on buying a dress this early but want to try lots on and get an idea of what i want so i can start thinking more about hair, jewellery ect. It'l be nice spending some time with my mum too and seeing my sister in her city when she's not at uni. (We live about 20mins out of Edinburgh but she's studying at glasgow university so thats where she lives right now)

I know you said that you wanted to go with the most basic cake Just Marry offers due to cost, but you can also use another cake vendor that may even be cheaper than what Just Marry offers. Just a thought i wanted to throw out there, as you're not required to use them.

Good luck with the dress shopping. I am going in two weeks as well and i hope i find one that i really like as opposed to all of the ones i already plan to try on :)

Happy planning!

Hi there! The next two years are going to fly by! We had over a two year engagement and it's almost down to the year mark. No clue where all the time went. lol Happy planning! :)

Hi, Debra. I love the colors in that kilt. There are so many flower options that can go with it! If you have problems finding that cake topper, let me know. My parents at one point had at least four of them, so I can always check with them to see if they still have any.

I started a PJ and its linked in my signature. I'm a bad bride...haven't updated it in a little bit. I hope to get to it soon.

I think 2014 will sneak up on us and while we think we are planning too early, at the end we will be thinking we didn't start soon enough!

i never thought of using outside vendor for the cake but now u mention it i'l look in2 it. it might work out cheaper *** it might mean we could jus hav a single tier cake and would prob manage 2 eat it all before we need to leave :)
i'm really excited 2 try some dresses on, do u think it too early to buy yet tho since its still a year and a half away? that is if i find one lol

Hi lauren, i like the kilt but he's actually now changed his mind to the second choice (which i actually like better lol) i'm just about 2 update about it so read below. Slightly less colour options but it'l still work well. thanks lauren i'l keep that in mind and give u a shout if i cant get it anywhere!

I'm off to read ur PJ after i do this update :D ur not a bad bride sometimes theres just not a lot happening to update on lol if i'd started mine when we first got engaged this would'v had LONG breaks between updates.

Ye i bet we'l be all stressed out an rushing around right at the end lol

So Rich doesnt really get asked to make toooooo many decisions completely on his own *** i like to be in control and alot of the time he cant make a decision without asking my opinion anywayz:confused:;)
but i did say the choice of kilt is completely up to him just like my dress is completely up to me to pick. So after picking the isle of Skye tartan a few weeks ago he's been to a few other tartan shops to get prices etc and has now decided to go with a different tartan
The Modern Black Watch Tartan
blw_mr.jpg

When we first looked at kilts this was my favourite but when rich was looking he picked the isle of skye tartan over the black watch *** his favourite football (or soccer for you americans!) team is Hibernian FC and they'r colours r green and white and yellow (away strip or goalie strip). so for him the isle of skye was the closest to the hibs tartan he could get. He's now prefering the modern day black watch tartan which isnt much different - darker greens and no yellow. He says he's happy to wear the black watch since he found out his great grandad was in the black watch.
Fingers crossed this is the last time he changes his mind but only time will tell :thumbsup2

In other news i'm going to drive :drive: through to glasgow tomorrow with my mum, richard's mum, and his sister and meeting my sister through there for a big wedding fair!!! super excited for it and if it gives me any good ideas  then i'l post an update when i get back :)

ok for some reason when i type c o s without the spaces the disboards replaces it with 3 *s. I dunno why maybe it thinks its a swear word or something :rotfl:
c o s is my way of saying because in a shorter way and i use it quite often. from now on i'l try using bcos or if that fails it will jus need to be the full word but just incase i forget if 3*s come up it means i tried to type c o s :confused3

will check bck in soon :wave2:

Hi sweetie.
Sorry I have taken so long to comment in your thread, but I am now all caught up with your plans.
I am so excited that you have decided on the Courtyard for your wedding!!
I am sure you will love it. It really is such a pretty spot for small, intimate weddings and always looks beautiful when done up in some floral for a wedding.
I would also recommend looking at the possibility of using an outside vendor for your cake. We used Heather at 'It's Tasty Too' and she was amazing!!! My cake was just as I imagined it would be and was absolutely delicious!!! It lasted really well too, and was still moist and fresh several days later. She offered a good range of cake flavours and fillings and was extremely reasonably priced.

Good luck with dress shopping!!!!

So last weekend me, my mum, my sister (bridesmaid), Future mother in law and future sister in law travelled from edinburgh to glasgow (bout an hour an half drive) for a big wedding fair at a massive concert venue called the SECC.

We were there for doors opening at 10am and didnt leave until they were chucking us out at 6pm!

Here's me at my sister at the start of the day!
weddingfairsecc160912011_zps9ec9b290.jpg

This was the first and only wedding fair i'v been to so far and i went with the intention of just speaking to vendors for the reception and just getting ideas for dresses, hair, accessories and to work out if there was anything i hadnt thought of yet. I never planned to try anything on neither did my sister but we ended up trying a lot on. I also now have a much clearer idea about what i dont want and some ideas about what i do.

First we came to a jewellery stall. Here i tried on lots of different tiaras and a few veils. My sister tried some tiaras and hairpieces with and without hairbands. My mum and FMIL looked and tried some hair pieces too.
We discovered that i dont suit big crown like tiaras and that i do not like veils as expected.
Here is the first tiara i tried on
weddingfairsecc160912002_zpscc708fb4.jpg

when i looked back at the end of the day i decided this was my favourite tiara out of all i saw during the day. And when i looked at the label i think fate was playing its part. The tiara was called "belle" !!! (while i immediately thought of Belle from beauty and the beast, fiances family who'd only heard me say bell and not seen the spelling with the e on the end thought it was my future surname - Debra Bell.)
here is a few other tiaras i tried on throughout the day
weddingfairsecc160912027_zps89a5dd47.jpg

weddingfairsecc160912005_zpsf37574a3.jpg

weddingfairsecc160912003_zps44c195d1.jpg

here is a few hairpieces my sister tried on. She really liked the big tiaras and she wanted one of them i reminded her that i was the bride so she could not have a bigger tiara than mine! I have a feeling that if she ever gets married she'l have a big pouffy princess dress and a massive crown like tiara! while theres nothing wrong with this its just not me and not what i like or want.
weddingfairsecc160912008_zpsf438a04e.jpg

weddingfairsecc160912006_zpsbb1a2821.jpg

We then browsed a few stalls with wedding day cars that i dont really need, a hair and make up stall and a stall that gave me a sample of confetti made from real flower petals in the colours i said we'd choosen (bcos we dont have any specific colour scheme i just said greens and purple). Then we came to the first stall that had dresses on it. I wasnt really planning on looking too hard or trying any on as i'm going into some bridal shops in a few weeks and would rather wait till then. BUT after we talked/bullied my sister into trying on a bridesmaids dress that she loved the colour and style of i kinda got dress fever and i think i ended up trying on about 10 dresses by the end of the day!
Here is the bridesmaid and the lovely dress :)

Back
weddingfairsecc160912015_zps668cb596.jpg

We're hoping that while we're in bridal shops in a few weeks time she can find a pocket of time where she's not at uni where we can go to the shop and try this dress on in a green colour as well as this purple so she can decide what colour she likes best. Both would go with the kilts and i'm not fussed which she picks they'l both look great.

The first dress i picked to try just after my sister found her dress
weddingfairsecc160912016_zps027b6d22.jpg

Some of the other dresses i tried. The more i tried to take photos the more i discovered more and more of the vendors running the stalls were telling me we weren't allowed to take pictures bcos it was copyright or the designers hadnt given permission for photos or they were new designs that the designers were worried others would copy etc etc etc. So i dont have pictures of one of the dresses that i liked the most but i'v tried my hardest to remember which stalls i tried them at and will hopefully be able to visit the corresponding shops and try/take pictures there. So here are the ones i did get pics of

I saw lots and lots of cakes and again wasnt allowed to take any pictures but we ate lots of samples of cakes and tablet and dipped fudge into a chocolate fountain :)

Unfortunately my sister had to leave around 2pm to go to work and my mum left with her to drive her to her flat so she could change etc. She lives in glasgow and the flat was only around 15mins away but when my mum tried to drive back she got diverted and stuck in traffic bcos of a car crash accident so she ended up being away till about half 4/5ish.
While they were away me, FMIL and FSIL grabbed a coffee/hot chocolate for me and then went to watch the wedding fashion show. It was mainly bridal dresses but did show mens wear, bridesmaids, children's wear, and mother of the bride/groom wear. I enjoyed the show and even fought back tears a few times but i didnt see any dresses that made me go "wow i want that dress!"

Overall i really enjoyed it. my hands were aching from carrying 3 bags full of leaflets from all the vendors and they were looking quite red as well. I discovered a few things.
I want a small silver tiara with crystals
i do not like pearls
i do not want a veil
ivory dresses suit my skin tone better than pure white dresses
i do not want a train on my dress/if i must have a train it wont be longer than about a foot
dresses that "wrap" around my body especially around my waist flatter me best
i do not like lace
a sweetheart neckline that i originally wanted doesnt fit me properly
i should try dresses with straight necklines (mayb a slight drop in the centre)
i either want a 1 shoulder, hallterneck or thin straps. i dont suit thick straps
i like dresses with corset backs
less layers=less pouffyness so the less layers the better
i thought i wanted a plain dress but a little bit of sparkle is actually quite nice (emphasis on little lol)

So it shouldnt be too hard to find my perfect dress lol

That bridal show looks like such a good time. You and your sister look so much alike, but I'm sure you're used to hearing that! I love the list you made of what you like and don't like about the dresses/tiara/veil. I have a few lists of what I think I want, but I'm sure I will wind up getting something that is the complete opposite of what I have my heart set on now! The dress for your sister is beautiful, love the corset back and she looked really comfortable in it. Glad you learned a lot an got some info to help you with your planning :)

it was such a fun day :) cant wait to go to another one in november in edinburgh this time (i live jus outside of edinburgh by like 20mins so it'l b so much easier 2 get 2) plus it'l b gd to speak to vendors that r a lot more local an now that i have more of an idea wht i do an dont want/need it should b more helpful. if not i'l jus enjoy the atmosphere lol plus 2 of my good friends also jus got engaged so i might ask the new future bride along to join in the fun!
You know i do hear it a bit but i dnt see it! i dnt think we look that alike(altho we do in that photo) i look mostly like our dad an she looks very much like our mum. But people who'd never met or seen her at the engagement party could pick her out as my sister straight away so we must look alike lol
She loves it too!!! its meant 2 have purple ribbon i really like the white in the corset tho :)
