Lol.. 47 degrees is freezing for Floridians...

We start crying at 60!!

Imagine the laughs my nieces and I had at POR mid-January this year when the temps dipped to low 50s 1 day. We say other guests with winter jackets, hats and a couple had their blankets wrapped around them. I did my morning run in shorts and a long sleeved T shirt and was actually quite comfortable!

Thanks so much for posting this- especially since it has links to the breakfast time and menus. UGH!!! No Mickey waffles or pancakes for breakfast! :sad2: Considering those are the ONLY things DD(6) eats for breakfast when we are at WDW, it looks like we are going to have a problem. Now back to debating whether we do room service or change resorts if we can even change at our bounceback rate at this late date. :sad2: If they just had a pancake or waffle we could probably make do!

Hopefully someone will post soon what the Mizners hours and offerings are. Looks like the Beach Pool Bar isn't going to have any evening offerings as it only goes through "lunch", so it will be good to know if there are any late night options for DH when we get back from the parks at night.

Due to many experiences of being the last to have power restored, I had my home hardwired and a large generator installed with sufficient capacity to operate everything in my home as if on commerical power. With a 275 gallon fuel tank, I run 18 days nonstop without needing more fuel!

TOm

That is an awesome plan! :goodvibesWe wanted to hard wire ours as well but I think once you get a month or so past the last time you needed to use it you tend to find other things that need the money more...like a trip to Disney!;) At least we have some sort of back-up in place... no power is no fun!:upsidedow

We are in a colder clime, but still hate the chill. We are among those who are shivering at WDW when it dips below 70.

It has been unseasonably cool here this weekend as well. I hope everyone in the NE is spared the nasty weather from early last winter.:goodvibes

Oh k&a&c'smom we DID miss you, and please take gentle care and I also hope you are able to rest and get better soon

Aww, thanks, pas. I'm feeling much better.

*snipped by me*

Thank you! And your DD's AKL print sounds great! There was one sand pail print at the GF gift shop last month. It was lovely.
:)
I know what you mean about meaning to do things or buy things and then for whatever reason you forget or don't have time. That's how I feel about the Tonga Toast. It was supposed to be a must do this trip and once again, I didn't get to try it, so next trip!

ps. wishing everyone speedy recoveries :grouphug:

I know, we so often have a plan to pick up a missed souvenir, but get busy and forget. I hate that we missed out on all the GF pillows.

Is Mizners still open as a lounge in the evenings? My DH and I love to have a drink there and listen to the music before dinner at Citricos.

No.. from what i hear they are using the area temporarily as a place to get food to go. I've seen pics and the entire place had been cleared of all furniture.

Thanks for this update. We love stopping in Mizner's for a drink in the evenings as well, what a shame it won't be available during the construction. We didn't even think to ask about the upcoming changes, we had drinks several times and often had the room to ourselves in the early evening, chatting with the CMs.

I did hear from CMs at the Tea Room they will be getting an update soon. Changes to layout and incorporating the "kitchen" area into the room, if the current plans are carried out.

We've just booked the Grand for 13 nights in August 2013!!!! I'm so excited. I did my ICP at Gaspys and fell in love with the hotel. I never thought that I would get to stay here :)

Welcome!:cheer2: Congrats on your booking, two weeks, woohoo!!:yay:

We are currently driving to WDW, and after 1,000 miles will be checking into the BC in an hour! We are staying at the BC, due in part to all the construction at the GF. However, I am a picture taker and poster so I promise to post pictures this week!

YAY!:yay: You must be checked in by now, hopefully in your room. Have a wonderful, magical vacation. Can't wait to see your photos and hear about the most recent updates.

Thanks for that link, great photos.

It's quite possible there are more items than are listed - I don't see a children's menu on this link and most venues have one. As for the dinner and late night menus, the bar menu includes the same food items as the "lunch" menu, and lists their hours as "11 a.m. through 11 a.m."! I'm assuming it is a typo, and they mean 11 a.m. - 11 p.m., since the article lists hours for the grill as 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.:)

Just saw the menu no soft serve Ice Cream!!! I love the Grille's Sundae Bar!Gonna miss it for our trip in November:mad:

Thank you! :-)

All of the restaurants are open to the public, but it STRONGLY helps to have ADRs (advanced dining reservations) from Disney. You can book them through the Disney world website. You could probably walk in to the Grand Floridian Cafe any day for lunch, but for dinner you would probably need ADRs everywhere, or close to it. They're generally good, though!

I already have the BW booked for November, but I'm thinking of switching. My wife is allergic to sesame seeds, so it is important that we have a seedless vacation. Any recommendations? :)

(Never gets old!!)

Looks like it may take awhile to walk from the Beach / Pool Grill and Mizner's to the boat dock. Will have to walk around all the construction. We've never stayed there. Are all the buildings far apart?

Hi,everyone. We are at the GF right now and it is lovely. We are staying in a RPC TPV room. Everyone is having a fabulous time, but the construction is definitely having its impact. To wit:

1. The courtyard pool is closed. We have heard from CMs that they are not only converting it to zero entry but actually making it shallower. The feature pool is open, but has no view of the beach. This is because there is no beach. Right now, it is a construction roadway and a reinforced sea wall. Several members of the recreation department confirmed that no additional pools will be added to handle additional guests from DVC.

2. The children's Alice in Wonderland water play area is nearly ready. The expectation is that it will open this week, pending approval from the building department.

3. Gasparilla's is closed. We like their food anddon't like the options at the beach bar or Mizner's. Additionally, dining at the beach bar means dining outdoors. Not sure what this means when it rains. The selection at Mizner's transcends limited.

4. Sandy Cove is closed through November. We had to go to Walgreen's for some basic toiletries and aspirin. Some of the items are available in the upstairs gift shop.

5. Monorail service has been fine. No problems at all.

We will post photos when we return home. Now, I am going for a swim.

Nope. The buildings are pretty close together, with the exception of Sago Cay right across the marina, but still close to the main building. I'm not great at this, but I would estimate the time to walk from the Beach Pool to the boat dock at about 3 - 5 minutes, depending on how fast you normally walk.

I think they did a nice job on Mizner's. I really hope my request to be on the marina side of Conch Key is honored - I don't want to be looking at those walls around the pool.

:sunny:

Thanks for the live update. I'm going to pack a few extras that I would normally purchase as needed at Sandy Cove just so I don't have to run out!
If I stick the ibprofen, zantac and claratin in my shoes in the suitcase they won't really take up extra space!

Tom

Don't know what the odds are, but I really hope that by the time we get there, in about a month, the view from the Beach Pool is a little improved from what toodycat described!

:sunny:

I really hope that anyone traveling is not affected by the closures...

It is just hard to imagine so many people at the Beach Pool as it isn't that big to handle a full hotel..

Did I imagine it, or did I see that they are giving passes to use the Poly pool as well?

TIA,

They are but with small kids it isnt the most convenient option to go back and forth...

My small kid is 14!!! So, I think we might be swimming in the South Pacific -- which, given my screen name, won't be the first time!

I do feel the pain though for those of you with younger kids, as it would be a big inconvenience I'm sure.
