I did not see face painting on the boardwalk in April. Face painting can be a transient thing. Maybe they will have it as part of a community hall activity. Have you tried booking a Pirates League appt for 4ish on the party day?

Thanks. My DD isn't interested in Pirate's League or BBB. She just wants one of those swirly butterfly-ish mask type facepaints, the kind that goes all around the eyes and down onto the cheeks. We have decided to just go over to HS for facepaints prior to the party if there isn't anyone doing it on the Boardwalk.

Good idea! You can be sure to get what she wants there. Doesn't appear that MK has face painting until FLE is complete!

Can y'all help me figure out a transportation question? We are staying at BWV in February and were planning on dining at Kona one night, catching Wishes and then heading back. I'm starting to rethink that now that we are flying and will have to rely on disney transport (cabs are out as we have two who need carseats).

My question is, how long does it take to get to the BW from the Poly? Would we be better off taking the monorail to the MK and then fighting the post Wishes crowds on the bus or taking the monorail to Epcot and walking through. Also, how long of a trip do you think it would be?

I am considering scrapping the whole thing and just keeping the kids out late one night at Epcot and hitting Illuminations instead.

I'd love thoughts from past BW guests!

I don't know when Wishes will be showing in February, but keep in mind that Epcot is only open until 9pm. So going back through Epcot is only an option if you can be sure to arrive before 9pm. It is also quite a walk - I am not sure whether I would want to do it with kids after a long day in the parks.

If you want to go via the MK, I would suggest to take the boat from the Poly to the MK and then take the bus. But just as you said, you might end up in the post-Wishes crowds!

The easiest way would be to take a taxi. Just go to the valet people at the lobby exit and they will call a cab for you. The fare should be around 15$.

The taxi should be about a 15 minute trip, both other options might easily take 45 minutes or even longer.

Finally, I think now the greatest advantages of the Boardwalk is how close it is to Epcot. I thought it was so magical to not have to bother with any crowds after Illuminations and instead just let the people rush away while I was leisurely walking to the International Gateway. So, if you are only planning one fireworks evening, I would suggest to go with Epcot to make the most of the resort you are staying at!

We're leaving in a few days for Boardwalk and I was wondering if there are towels provided at the pool? We have no parks scheduled for arrival day, and are packing our swimsuits in our carry-on so we can spend the afternoon at the pool and not have to wait for the luggage to be delivered, or to wait until our room is ready.

We've done this every trip but have only stayed at the moderates - and they had towels. Anyone know? I don't know if the carry-on will fit under the seat in front of us with four suits AND four towels crammed in!

Also, does anyone know where the campfire takes place at Boardwalk? We're thinking about that on arrival day, or maybe heading to Beach Club for the movie on the beach.

So excited to stay at Boardwalk for our first time!:cool1:

I didn't see if anyone answered this. The campfire happens back by the Luna Park Pool. The campfire is just toasting marshmallows. You could easily do both the campfire and the movie. But I'm pretty sure they have a campfire down on the Beach at Beach Club too.

KOOK thanks for posting the above link, excellent blog entries! Now I really can not wait to return to BWI :yay:
You're welcome and it won't be long before you're back at BWI!
Thank you so much for posting this - between that blog and this thread all my questions were answered for our upcoming visit!!!
I'm glad you found it helpful, jnfr2424:)
Awesome blog! Lots of great information in there! :thumbsup2
Isn't it thorough and interesting? Hey, what are you doing over here, Miss Candace?:scratchin

I just came back from the BWI and they were doing construction around a lot of the cottages. You might want to check with the hotel as to the status, as you don't want to be disappointed to look out your window and see walls covered by a blue tarp.

My DH had the same reaction, that is until I told him how much $ it would be to upgrade

LESS THAN 24 HOURS!!! :yay:
Even less now! Happy travels to BWI and WDW!

I've changed to a cottage (and back to a std. CL room) at probably the two week or less point back in March. As long as you have a room-only reservation, you can cancel up to 5 days prior to arrival w/o penalty and even make a resort change with less than 5 days (don't ask how I know this:rolleyes2). Let us know what you end up doing!

This is nice to know for those staying in a cottage soon.

Poor guy - I can see him now:faint:

Transportation changes on the way...

In an interview with Attractions Magazine, Walt Disney World Vice President for Transportation Samuel Lau revealed plans for the future of transportation at the resort.

The resort recently added 28 new buses to its fleet, bringing the total number to 319. After recent testing with a 60-foot articulated bus, there are also plans to purchase a few more of the longer buses to increase capacity. Of course, the larger buses require more space to pull up. A third bus loop will be added at the Magic Kingdom, which will probably take about a year to build.

In addition, more cameras will be added to the buses to supplement the existing camera facing the driver's compartment and front door. The new cameras will capture images outside the bus, allowing Disney to see what happens if a bus gets into an accident or if there's some other incident. The settlement last week of the lawsuit related to the death of a boy who rode his bicycle off of a sidewalk and into the side of a bus points up the possible use of information from these cameras.

Monorails will see a major change, as Disney is working on a new computer-controlled monorail system that will monitor and drive trains in real time, adjusting speeds, keeping safe distance, and enhance efficiency when transferring trains from one beam to another. Monorail drivers will continue to be on the trains, but would be responsible for enabling movement and making spiels to guests. They would no longer actively drive the trains. Despite this, guests would still not be allowed in the cockpit. The automated system would allow the central computer to handle trains to provide gaps during beam transfers that would not cause a complete stoppage of all trains on the beam.

Road work is also underway to increase capacity and improve traffic flow. A new lane has been added to Buena Vista Drive, along with a turn late onto Victory Way to allow traffic to flow more freely to the new Disney's Art of Animation Resort. The left turn lane from Osceola Parkway onto Sherberth Road near Disney's Animal Kingdom and Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge is being extended, and a new turn lane was extended at the entrance to the Magic Kingdom's bus loops.

How comfortable are the sleeper sofa's? I am contemplating bringing a blow up mattress to put on top of the sleeper sofa, but would rather not have to deal with packing it.

The sleeper sofas at BWV are more comfortable than some of the others. These are the type that flip from the back and the cushions stay attached to help support the foot of the bed.

My son has slept on several of them and I think this type is the one he prefers.
