Boo to You & Turning 2! Oct 2012 PTR *NEW* 10/30 We're Back! TR Link Posted!!

I hope you guys had a great time at DLR and I pray you make it home safe and stay safe with Isaac in the midst.

We finally made it home from our Disneyland weekend and walked straight into Hurricane Isaac. Not the homecoming we expected but we are making do. Just letting y'all know we are safe & sound and seem to be west enough of the storm that it will not be too bad for us. My parents house is flooding though, so please keep them & all those being affected by this storm in your prayers. Hopefully I can get the TR started early next week.

Sending our thoughts your way, and our prayers up above.

Excited to hear about your trip, though.

I can barely keep up with my PTR let alone all of your TR's LOL! Not that I don't enjoy them. That reminds me, I need to go get caught up on your last DLR TR which you've probably finished by now :thumbsup2

:lmao: Yes that one is finished... I have never had more than 2 at a time going!

Well, it looks as though there will be some changes in the group dynamics for this trip...

As I mentioned earlier in another post, Hurricane/TS Isaac kicked my parents' butts. They live in a small city outside of New Orleans that in the 27 years I have been alive has NEVER flooded this bad, but this time it did and they got over a foot of water in their house. Even for Katrina, the water only came into the front foyer area which was not hard to replace. The damage done from this storm is far far worse. They sought shelter at a friend's house a street over who was higher than them and didn't get water in her house. To do that, they walked through the water with their animals (4 dogs and a cat) on a raft to the friend's house, then walked back to get their stuff, then walked back to her house for good. The water was waist to chest deep in the worst spots. It's awful for me imagining what they went through and there is nothing I can do to help them because there is still no way for me to get to them! Luckily since they were home when it happened they were able to save many valuables and irreplaceable things.

What does that have to do with Disney planning? Well, they more than likely will not be joining us for the trip. :sad1: Were it from a cost standpoint, it would be no issue. DH and I had already started discussing how we would be able to pay for their tickets and/or food to allow them to come, because I think they will need the break by then. But when I talked to my mom, she is more concerned about my dad not being able to get the time off from work since he will be needing to take care of things around the house in the coming weeks and will be missing work. Hopefully the time off thing will work itself out, and if cost is an issue, DH and I can definitely help out because I know they were so looking forward to this. If not, I guess we will just have to plan on them joining us for 2013 instead.

It also means we need to find other accommodations for Saturday night when we fly in. Originally, my parents were booking a room off property with some credit card points and we were going to stay there and move to Bonnet Creek Sunday morning as planned originally. They did put out an AP room discount but being Saturday night, the price is still pretty high. The cheapest I found was $124 for one of the All Stars...not exactly the $80-100 range I was hoping for! Not sure what we are going to do instead, but we at least have a little while to figure something out.

I know it probably seems silly to worry about such a thing with all they have going on, but DH and I made sure not to mention it first although we did think of it. My mom actually sent me a text about it last night. I think she just wants to look forward to a little normal in her life right now, and this was something they had really been excited about. But right now, they need to focus on getting the house back together, and we are doing what we can to help. My MIL, as much as she drives me crazy, would give you the shirt off her back, and she has offered up her camper for my parents to have on their property to live in until the house is livable again. DH is going Sunday to help them get everything set up with the camper and cleaning out the house.

So please continue to send them your thoughts & prayers at this really difficult time. It is so much appreciated. :goodvibes

Still working on getting the pictures in order, edited, and uploaded so I can start my DL TR, and I'll try to get the next day's plans up as soon as possible!

Edited to add:

I went ahead and started our Disneyland Anniversary TR this afternoon!

Wow, that's awful that your parents had to go through that. Thankfully everyone is safe though.

I hope that they can get everything taken care of in a timely manner and get back to a normal life as they know it. It will be a shame if they can't join you, but I'm sure there will be opportunities in the future. :thumbsup2

That's too bad about your parents, but at this stage, it's more important that everyone's OK than exactly what happens with their vacation. Time off for taking care of the house has to be a priority over time off for Disney. You are right though that they may find they really need the vacation by then. I hope things work out OK.

I'm heading over to your TR now!

I'm sorry your parents had to go through all that! It's a shame they won't be able to come with you but at least they're safe.

Yes, that is the ultimate blessing, that everyone is safe & unharmed. Stuff can be replaced, but people can't be!

If it ends up that my dad can't get off work, they will absolutely be invited along for the trip next year. I know it was something they have both been looking forward to since we came home from our vacation last year. They will definitely need the Disney break by then!

I hope things work out too. The big cleanup is starting today, so hopefully with lots of help they can make a big dent in the work. When the possibility occurred to me of them not being able to come, I even told Dustin, this is so not what we should be thinking about right now. But after storms like this, that's what we all tend to do, I think. Because now it's just one more thing this storm messed up. I was actually surprised my mom brought it up so soon. I really didn't want her worrying about the vacation with all of the other stress she has going on!

I'm sorry your parents had to go through all that! It's a shame they won't be able to come with you but at least they're safe.

So true!

Hopping over from your DLR TR and joining in!

So sorry to hear about your parents situation - they have my thoughts and prayers. Hope they can get back to normalcy soon. We lived in Houston for a couple of years and experienced Rita in 2005 and Ike in 2008. Damage to our home was minimal fortunately, but have had friends who had their homes flooded and witnessed how a weather event can flip your life upside down overnight. Glad to hear that they (and their pets) were able to get to safety at their friends house.

Just spent the morning catching up on most of your TR. Sounds like such a fun trip planned so far!

Welcome!

Hurricanes have been simply awful from Katrina on forward. Used to be just a bad storm and a few days off of school. And it just goes to show that it doesn't need to be a Cat 3 or higher to do some real damage. Isaac was only a 1 then downgraded to a TS and it did the most damage to my parents home! I'm just thankful they were able to make it out safely.

I can't believe the trip is next month!

Welcome Home!

I am so very sorry to hear about your parent's house. That must be devastating. I really hope the recovery efforts go well and they are able to put their life back together quickly. I am also so sorry this is effecting your October plans. I really hope there is a way they can still go with you. Please keep us posted.

so sorry to hear they had so much damage and that it looks like they won't be on your WDW trip with you but Disney will always be there :thumbsup2 I pray it doesn't take too much time/effort/money to fix and replace what they've lost. I'm going to try and catch up on your other DLR TR today if work allows me to and then I'll head over to the new one. :faint::rotfl:
