Well, it looks as though there will be some changes in the group dynamics for this trip...
As I mentioned earlier in another post, Hurricane/TS Isaac kicked my parents' butts. They live in a small city outside of New Orleans that in the 27 years I have been alive has NEVER flooded this bad, but this time it did and they got over a foot of water in their house. Even for Katrina, the water only came into the front foyer area which was not hard to replace. The damage done from this storm is far far worse. They sought shelter at a friend's house a street over who was higher than them and didn't get water in her house. To do that, they walked through the water with their animals (4 dogs and a cat) on a raft to the friend's house, then walked back to get their stuff, then walked back to her house for good. The water was waist to chest deep in the worst spots. It's awful for me imagining what they went through and there is nothing I can do to help them because there is still no way for me to get to them! Luckily since they were home when it happened they were able to save many valuables and irreplaceable things.
What does that have to do with Disney planning? Well, they more than likely will not be joining us for the trip.
Were it from a cost standpoint, it would be no issue. DH and I had already started discussing how we would be able to pay for their tickets and/or food to allow them to come, because I think they will need the break by then. But when I talked to my mom, she is more concerned about my dad not being able to get the time off from work since he will be needing to take care of things around the house in the coming weeks and will be missing work. Hopefully the time off thing will work itself out, and if cost is an issue, DH and I can definitely help out because I know they were so looking forward to this. If not, I guess we will just have to plan on them joining us for 2013 instead.
It also means we need to find other accommodations for Saturday night when we fly in. Originally, my parents were booking a room off property with some credit card points and we were going to stay there and move to Bonnet Creek Sunday morning as planned originally. They did put out an AP room discount but being Saturday night, the price is still pretty high. The cheapest I found was $124 for one of the All Stars...not exactly the $80-100 range I was hoping for! Not sure what we are going to do instead, but we at least have a little while to figure something out.
I know it probably seems silly to worry about such a thing with all they have going on, but DH and I made sure not to mention it first although we did think of it. My mom actually sent me a text about it last night. I think she just wants to look forward to a little normal in her life right now, and this was something they had really been excited about. But right now, they need to focus on getting the house back together, and we are doing what we can to help. My MIL, as much as she drives me crazy, would give you the shirt off her back, and she has offered up her camper for my parents to have on their property to live in until the house is livable again. DH is going Sunday to help them get everything set up with the camper and cleaning out the house.
So please continue to send them your thoughts & prayers at this really difficult time. It is so much appreciated.
Still working on getting the pictures in order, edited, and uploaded so I can start my DL TR, and I'll try to get the next day's plans up as soon as possible!
Edited to add:
I went ahead and started our Disneyland Anniversary TR this afternoon!
