2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ, Part 3- Don't Post Here!!! New Thread, November 2012

I think I might join others in sending a note to the YC/BC General Manager. I'm all about being nice, but I'm paying a lot to stay at YC because of the exclusivity it provides not for a public pool.

Am I just total out of place on this?

I 100% agree with you! My hubby and I are visiting the YC for the first time on 9/23 and we are hoping the issue is resolved by than. We could have payed a lot less to stay elsewhere like the Swan and Dolphin.... Trying not to let this get to me....

ITA! When BWI pool was being renovated their guests could use SAB and vice versa. However Swan and Dolphin are not Disney owned resorts so I think it's an entirely different matter. Now if Disney did allow Swan and Dolphin guests to use a Disney owned pool I would think it would be the pool at BWI since even DVC members are not allowed to pool hop to SAB.

I've been following the other thread about the S/W Pool. I find it ridiculous that they allowed it to get that far and I agree with everything said here...SAB shouldn't be the answer. As stated, we are certainly paying enough to stay there and one of the key amenities is that SAB is for YC/BC guests ONLY. Opening it up to other guests, particularly those who are staying at non-Disney properties just doesn't seem quite fair. I can understand when BWI pool is closed and vice versa as these are all Disney properties, but why should Disney be responsible for the failure of something they do not own?

I certainly hope the S/W pool is fixed soon and if the original posters most recent update is correct, it will be. I will be very disappointed if they are still shipping S/W guests to SAB when we are there in Oct. This is probably our one chance to stay at YC/BC, so it would really take away from our enjoyment if the place was overrun with outside guests.

:thumbsup2 Exactly what YCFAN said. Pictures are fabulous and it looks like it was a fantastic "extra".

Back from 9 days at YC, here is my mini resort report:)

Arrive Aug 20th via DME around 10.30am, not greeted personally off the bus as there were a few other families ahead of us but while waiting to check in DH stuck up a conversation with a greeter who we chatted with almost everyday though the trip.

Room ready at check in, I booked a GV room, check in desk said we had been assigned a room that was "not technically a water view" on the second floor 2025. We headed up to our room.... our "not technically a water view" was indeed an awesome water view!!! Which was had an excellent view of Epcot fireworks!!! Woot woot! We headed out to the parks after stopped back at check in to get a replacement for my room key as it had no printing on it just a blank card.

The front entrance to YC is being worked on and there were "cherry picker" cranes outside and it was obvious that the front of the building was being painted. I stayed at this resort last year so I knew what to expect. However on arrival we noticed the TV in our room and something smeared on it as did the dresser under it. We did bring this to the attention of the resort and it was fixed. I understand that the resort is having work done on it but it didn't appear as clean as I remember, not big mess or gross bath rooms just finishing touches and missed bits of paper etc in the hallways and common areas.

The closing of HH was a bit of an issue regarding refillable mugs, it is a very long way from our room to the BC marketplace to get my kids a drink. While you could get paid drinks from the poolside gifts area we found it easier (and better selection ) to duck into the little bar next to Yachtsman Steakhouse (also closed) and get a beer:) We also ate dinner here one night and it was a great little gem.

With HH being closed the access to SAB was restricted and one evening we had to walk to the BC side to get into the pool area not very convenient at all. In fact it was a complete drag. If the closing had happened before our stay I think I wouldn't have been very happy but it only affected 2 days of our trip. Those 2 days there were no staff checking resort ID either, kind of felt like they had given up.

We had a fabulous stay and love this resort, hoping that we can make it back and that the level of service is brought up:)

Any questions....

Thanks for the report! We arrive at YC 8 weeks from tomorrow. I hope most of the renovations are done by then...but I am even more hopeful that we will end up with the room you had. It sounds perfect. We are booked at GV too, so we shall see.

A little bummed about your report on HH and the minor hassle its causing. Oh well. Guess we'll make the best of it too. Hey, we'll be at WDW, so we can handle a little inconvenience.

If you do get a chance to meet Penny, don't forget to say hello to Flat Ben, too- that is my son, who is so very desperate for a visit to WDW and a return to the Beach Club that we are sending him on special trips in paper form.

Dee

Dee - I am concerned to inform you that my DH is going to take Flat Ben with him when we get a Grey Goose Slushie (whatever they are and wherever they might be:confused3). He is also taking him to the Tequila Bar in Mexico. :scared1: I tried to tell him that Ms. Dee wasn't going to like that, he replied, then we aren't going to tell Ms. Dee. I told him that Max The Horse and my other imaginary friends might see him and report him and he said he was going to take his chances. :rolleyes1 He said that since neither of us swim (more room at SAB for others:thumbsup2) Flat Ben was going to branch out and do other things this trip. I promise to keep him safe and not let him drink anything other than decaf diet tea. :goodvibes

I'll keep an eye out, Penny! We're a family of four including DS3 and DD11months. Look for a dad doing Sherpa duty with all the family gear and that's probably me.

I will look for you and your family while I am scootin around the the area. Starting to pack now, leave tomorrow at 7 pm and staying off-campus tomorrow night. Arrive at BCV (Jim, Flat Ben & I) early Sunday morning.
:dance3::yay:Can't wait, I really need this vacation.

Ms. Dee - I promise I will give you daily updates of your son's antics throughout the park. I will take pictures, but not sure if I can upload them??? Penny:hippie:

I would certainly hope that WDW understands guests at any Disney owned and operated Epcot resort would be very unhappy with allowing pool hopping from a non-Disney hotel.
Do you have any objections to the YC/BC guests sharing a Disney Transport Bus with Swan/Dolphin guests when going to the Animal Kingdom and Downtown Disney?

OK, so your DH is OK taking him to a bar, but he won't bring him out in the woods to hunt spiders and snakes and other icky creatures???

:rotfl2:

If you are able to email or text (I'll send you the number) the pictures to me I can post them. The one picture I would really love is Flat Ben with Teena. I believe you are planning to say hello to her either Sunday or Monday.

Thanks so much for doing this!!! And have a FANTASTIC trip!!!

Dee

Here's the menu for the arcade food...

I do- but then again I'd rather there be one bus for BC/YC, one bus for BWI and one for Swan and Dolphin. I'll be the guests at BWI and S&D do too!

Which is better BC or YC? I really liked YC but there are only water view rooms available for our dates so a BC Garden view room is significantly lower in price.

What to do?

Hey Dee,

Happy to say that we booked a Bounceback for next August so feel free to add us to the list.

We even added a day and are now doing 8 days instead of our usual 7!!!

Our dates are

August 21-28, 2013. (Going to be a long year!)

Woo Hoo!!

Jay

DjdBrit, this won't help you now but mugs can be refilled (and purchased) at the lounge just off the lobby of the YC. It's opens early in the am (6:30 or 7am?) for continental breakfast and remains open into the evening.

Isn't Crew's Cup great? I think many guests completely miss it.

Mariamouse, thanks for the kind words.

Just got back an hour ago. I can't go back and read all the pages that have sprang up here on our thread while I was gone for almost two weeks. So, if anybody asked me a specific questions, please repost.

Obviously I have also been away from the BC. I'll return on Sunday. So I have no news on anything that is going on there now.

Hope everybody is well and having fun!!!
