Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust - That's What Solo Trips Are Made Of - Update 7/21 P17

Now you have me missing MNSSHP. Once the kids got older (as in more expensive) we quit going. I love, love, love your costume. What a great job.

Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards

I talk it up real good, don't I? :lmao:

Thank you for the compliments on my costume. I am rather proud of it!

Oh Kat,

The fact that you will literally be wearing her shoes....priceless.

Agreed. :goodvibes Never mind that they're super comfortable. Too bad I can't wear those around the parks all day! :lmao:

Between you and Cruella and her puppies I am seriously starting to think we should do a costume of some sort.

You know, it can be so easy too! One year, Tink(erbellarella) and I went, and I made us classic tie dye shirts and we wore them with our regular jean shorts, accessorized a bit and we were hippies. :thumbsup2

I will say that I have a pair of Privo Floats (mary jane style) that are an amazing park shoe! I've used them for cooler park seasons, too hot for me in the summer but they could be great in Oct. I'm concerned that the croc's already rubbed, the others sound like a better option. Or, just bring a couple pairs, flips don't take up much space!

I'll take a gander at those Privos.

I've decided to return the Crocs. I can see how if my feet were even a teensy bit swollen, it would be an issue. I have currently returned everything that was in my house and have no ordered a ton more stuff.

Shoes are the death of me, I swear. :lmao:

I may well be wearing a tie dye...the one you made me! It's on the list as a possiblity. :goodvibes

I love your Wendy costume, it's so cute! I can't believe you made that without a pattern! :cool1: And wearing your mom's shoes...how perfect! :goodvibes Now you have me all sad about missing MNSSHP this year! Guess I'll just have to go next year! :rotfl:

Dude, I was missing MNSSHP this year. That's sort of how this whole thing got started, room discount and free airfare aside.

"Hi, my name is Kat, and I'm addicted to MNSSHP."

"Hi, Kat."

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

You know, I've used that quote a lot in my trip reports.

I'm not sure if that speaks to my love of Alice in Wonderland or the fact that, clearly, I have issues.

:rotfl2:

That's rhetorical, folks. Let's not go there. ;)

I'm mad...all the best people are a little bit, really...about the whole shoe/sandal thing. I've settled on one pair, but I have to be honest with you. Eandesmom put the bee in my bonnet about rotating shoes. And although I may be one of the most frugal women alive, I thought maybe there's some merit to having more than one pair of sandals to count on.

I remember going with Nana to Disney and how she always switches shoes from beginning to end of the day, and it seems to help her.

So I'm trying to run with that concept and find not one, but two pairs that I can feel comfortable flipping back and forth between. If I only end up with one, that is certainly okay.

And, although I am a frugal princess, as I like to say, I could not get the Montrail Molokinis in black on Shoebuy, like we discussed before. And I decided to pay more for them and get them from Amazon. They had my size, they were about $45 (which is $15 less than Zappos), and that, to me, is reasonable for a supportive fllip flop.

So I tentatively introduce you to trip shoe #1, Montrail Molokini's in black:

These are pretty utilitarian, but I'm okay with it. They felt like they had good arch support, and they're the ones you bake in the oven and then mold to your foot, so I'm pretty excited about that process. I think it'll give me even better support and hopefully be a good vacation flippie.

I've got four more pairs of sandals coming today.

No joke.

Vip Zappos is the death of me. My husband laughs every time I send him to work with my UPS returns. "What were these," he'll say, ha ha ha.

Yes.

We're all a little mad here.

I think option #1 looks like a winner!

What are your 4 potential alternatives? You will laugh but I swear I wear 3 different shoes per day on vacation with the rotating method.

Here and ready to catch up!

:welcome:

All caught up!
CBR looks so relaxing.
Love the flip flops.

CBR is soooo relaxing.

And thanks! I love the flip flops too.

Thanks!

Oh, I am not laughing anymore. Give me a few minutes, and I'll put together a post about it. :lmao:

you come home from the gym, and see this on your front step.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

So, here's the deal.

I got four different pairs, and they were all pretty decent. So now I have the great debate. One I'm not going to picture because it doesn't have enough arch support.

But here are the other three, each with their pluses and minuses.

Teva Tirra Sandals -
1088028-p-MULTIVIEW.jpg

Pros - Good arch support
Cons - Not used to wearing that much coverage / straps on a sandal, top strap seems to leave marks, could soften over time

Reef Fanning Luxe Flip Flops -
1592103-p-MULTIVIEW.jpg

Pros - Super Cute (you may not be able to see it, but the accent color is actually sparkly, glittery silver), Moderate Arch Support, Comfy straps and footbed
Cons - Moderate Arch Support...I am just not sure if these have enough support for park touring

Orthaheel Layla Slides -
1691182-p-MULTIVIEW.jpg

Pros - AMAZING arch support
These are actually an orthotic sandal, so they arch support is incredible.
Cons - Eh. They are not really pretty on. They may look nice, and they may fake nice really well, but...not so much.

Is it really too much to ask to have a pretty, supportive shoe? Ugh.

Anyway. I can't wait for my Montrails to get here. At least I know those will work. Will, let's hope, anyway.

:lmao:

Addendum to the previous post -

Teva Tirras - still undecided

Reefs - getting returned - I can't drop the money they cost on them for moderate arch support. Although super cute, just not worth my cash.

Orthaheels - I am going to convince myself they're not ugly. Because my feet have been so happy the whole time I've been wearing them. I think my arches cannot believe they are being so well supported, and I would like to imagine me they're thanking the academy right now. ;)

I'd return the Teva's. Based on your penchant for flips those straps may well drive you nuts. Happy feet are a good thing. A VERY good thing. Did you ever look at Noat's? They are pricey but the quality is top notch (look and are expensive lol) but my feet have never been so happy either. These are the ones I have. I've had them for 2.5 years and they look brand new! Granted I don't wear them non stop but when I do, it's for hours.

Those are pretty cute.

How do you find the arch support? That is really my biggest issue. I have extremely high arches.

Right now, I've actually shoved the orthotics from my sneakers into an old pair of Mary Janes and am walking around the house like that because my knee hurts so badly.

I don't know if I mentioned it, but I injured my knee running. Went to the doctor, we decided I'd lay off running and see how it went. It still hurts, but I honestly think it's because my flips have no support left at all, and I'm due to replace my sneaks next month.

UGH.

I find them really good but I don't have high arches per-se. Narrow heels which cause their own issues. You should definitely look at comfort over style...to a point! Flip flops are causing major issues for a lot of folks, especially teens who live in them as they inherently don't have any support. I know Merrell and Chaco are supposed to be good, they don't hit me right though. I did have a pair of Ecco's that were the bomb but wore them out. LOL! UGH on the knee.

Merrell's are awesome for me for fall / winter shoes, but I cannot for the life of me wear their sandals. I really need a half size in Merrells, and they don't make them. Rather annoying, because I love their shoes, they are very supportive for me.

Teva flips were my go to flip flop, and they were fine. And then they discontinued my favorites. And they haven't made one as good as those since. They're decent, but they keep changing the style and it's not the same.

I'm hoping these Montrails work for me. Right now I think I'm going to be walking around in these Mary Janes with my orthotics. I am so frustrated about my knee.

I thought we could take a break from the great shoe debacle and talk about day three.

But first...let me continue the great shoe debacle by saying that I went out today with a $15 off coupon for Dick's Sporting Goods in my hands, and the recommendation of my dear friend, Tinkerbellarella, that the sales people there actually know what they're talking about in regard to a running sneaker.

You know what?

They do. I got an awesome salesperson who knew exactly what kind of sneaker I needed by looking at my feet and stance, recommended a couple different pairs, I tried them on, and am now the proud owner of Asics Gel Nimbus sneakers.

And they are like little slices of heaven. Like clouds for my feet. Supportive clouds, if you can fathom such a thing. And they felt so good honestly, I didn't even need to put an orthotic in. AWESOME.

So...loathe the I am to admit it...if I can not work out this whole sandal thing, I'm telling you right now, I'm wearing those sneakers. I can't mess around with a busted up knee and that much walking. I'm not a fan of the feeling of little ovens on my feet, but I'd rather there be lots of Disney walking in my future and not limited amounts because I felt I had to wear "pretty" shoes.

So there you go.

Now! Day three!

I am planning on spending this day at Epcot.

WDWSeptOct_09-0062.jpg

And honestly, I don't have too many hard and fast plans for this day either.

Who's surprised?

I'll definitely be going on Spaceship Earth and I'm either going to Fastpass, or if I get there early enough, walk on Soarin'.

Soarin' is a tough ride for me. The most basic thing is that I'm afraid of heights. The more emotional aspect is that the first time I ever rode it was with my mom and Nemo. It's a special memory for me, and it was Mom's favorite ride in Epcot.

Truth be told, even though the height thing makes me squinchy, I really like this ride. I love the aroma elements worked in with the imagery, and the feeling of soarin' over everything. I even like how the fireworks blast you back a little in your seat.

So every time I go on this ride, I think of Mom. It is IMPOSSIBLE not to. Much like I think that even though I have a lot of little kiddo memories...as in me being a little kiddo...in the Magic Kingdom with my parents, I think in regard to missing my mother, Epcot is the harder park.

Epcot was really my mother's favorite. There was so much about it that she loved. I can't even get into at all. There's too much. It was just more of our place, if that makes sense. And I can't tell you how many happy memories I have with her there. Some just me and her, some with other family, some with her and friends.

So many.

I'm lucky, in a sense, that I've got a DIS meet planned for this night. And the way it all unfolded...well, I knew my mother must have had a hand in it all working out so perfectly. ;)

KatMark and I became friends on the DIS...gosh, I don't remember how long ago. But I can tell you that this wonderful lady was so amazing when my mother was ill, and ultimately, in helping me deal with her passing.

Whenever I describe Kathy to people in my family, I always say, "she was so kind to me when my mother died," and that's how I feel.

Her kindness that reached me through the computer screen, her words of comfort...you can't put a value you on. It is something that binds you in a way that people who have not experienced such a great loss might not be able to understand.

So when I was thinking about booking this trip, I asked Kathy what her dates were. And wouldn't you know it? They overlapped just so slightly with mine!

So I asked her if she'd like to have a little DIS meet.

And she asked me if I'd like to eat dinner with her and her (very understanding of the DIS ;)) husband.

And I thought, wow! This lovely lady has never met me and she's willing to share a meal with me! :rotfl2:

By heritage, I'm part Italian, so sharing a meal is a big deal. :thumbsup2

I was so touched by her offer, obviously I said yes!

So my one hard and fast plan for this day is eating dinner with Kathy and her husband, Mark at Cape May Cafe. And I am SO looking forward to it. I've never eaten dinner there, and I can't wait to try it.

And I can't wait to meet Kathy in person. And thank her in person.

Because she's awesome. And I am so grateful. :goodvibes

Ok I am TOTALLY left in the dust with all this shoe-speak!! :rotfl: I am so shoe-utilitarian it's not even funny. Cute shoes?.....there are cute shoes?!?

In light of the last two or so pages, I have just one comment worthy of the space:
