'You Big Fatty!' A delicious dining review- COMPLETE!!

So - we are up to Day 4!

In AK we knew we wanted to go back to Yak and Yeti as we had really enjoyed it last time.

It seems a bit of a theme that we are always very soggy when we eat and YAY - we must stop going on Kali River Rapids before we eat!

Brian was our server and he was very friendly indeed. He took us through to a window table so we could see the good people of AK going about their business.

Drinks were ordered - Simon kept up with his beer tasting efforts (I'm sure he will remember what it was....;) ) but I knew exactly what I wanted because I had missed out on it last time:

The Yak Attack! :thumbsup2 Oh this was really nice and refreshing so I was pleased I got to try it.

Kate had a 'glacier water' :

DisneyDay4062.jpg

We got some starters to share. After Kona we were on a hunt for more pot stickers:

DisneyDay4063.jpg

And Simon wanted to try the chicken wings:

DisneyDay4064.jpg

There were tons of them so we all had a nibble. A bit spicy but very tasty.

For entrees, Kate had the Mahi Mahi - she'd had this last time and loved it. Sorry - I forgot to take a pic! Bad Shari!:(

Sarah and I shared the honey chicken - we didn't often share meals but we remembered how large it had been last time and I wanted to make sure I had room for dessert :lmao: :

DisneyDay4066.jpg

Simon had the kobe beef burger which was enormous but he really enjoyed it:

DisneyDay4065.jpg

Only Sarah and I could manage a dessert (see? That sharing was worth it!)

Sarah had the sorbet:

DisneyDay4072.jpg

And I had pretty much my favourite Disney dessert - the deep fried cream cheese wontons:

DisneyDay4071.jpg

Oh these were just as heavenly as before :cloud9:

So, we really enjoyed Yak and Yeti once more - it is a very welcome break from the heat (and the soggyness) of AK and we have always had very good service here.

Here's me and Sarah:

DisneyDay4067.jpg

There was a queer moment as Brian only charged us three dining credits (because Sarah and I had shared an entree) and we spent the rest of the holiday with an odd credit! Oh well.

Big Fatty Rating: 7 out of 10

Coming up: Disappointment in Downtown Disney and going back to the 50's...

Excellent Yak & Yeti review! My DD is taking a YES class at AK for four hours on Tuesday and I feel like she'll be hungry when she gets done so I made an ADR for Y&Y. And then I cancelled it. I thought we would just eat a counter service or something but now I'm second guessing myself. We could share the honey chicken and then eat the won tons just like you did! I was so proud of myself for not changing my ADRs for two weeks now but I might have to add Y&Y back in there! :rolleyes1

Ooh, Y&Y is another of our ADR's!! I know lots of people say steer away from the honey chicken but it looks delish

Those wontons really look and sound quite bizarre but I know they're highly rated and so will try them. Can you describe them a bit more - texture/taste etc so it's not a complete surprise for me :) Lesley

Hoping to try the wontons in October!! The reviews are excellent! Of course this is presuming we are hungry after breakfast at Tusker House!

Hmmmm...yes! The honey chicken and the wontons - both lovely dishes!

The honey chicken was delicious. We both really enjoyed it. The wontons are unlike anything else I've tried. They are very warm and crispy and the cream cheese is very smooth and not too sweet. The vanilla drizzle is amazing and compliments the crispy wontons really well. I'm not so interested in the pineapple to be honest! The ice cream is really delicious and goes very well with the warm wontons. And a bonus bit of strawberry goodness too. It's just one of these amazing desserts where everything comes together. Yummmmmmy!

So much food to fit in eh? Thanks for reading :goodvibes

My DD and I were at Yak and Yeti last week and we lucky enough to have Brian as our server. He was perfect, best server of the trip and sweet as could be. Made the day for us.

Loving your reviews, looking forward to more.

He was great - very friendly and helpful. There was also a bonus that Trish, who served us on our last trip and was absolutely adorable, brought one of our dishes over - it was lovely to see her again!:)

Thanks for reading. I didn't make as many notes as I should have done so I need Papaboogie's help with everything!

I always thought there was no point in eating at Y&Y because we can get the same Chinese food at home. But now that I've seen so many people rave about those fried won tons, I'm really starting to question it. I don't suppose they sell those at the CS location, do they?

It's definitely worth trying Yak and Yeti - it's not like any chinese food I've ever had at home. They have a different twist on it and all the food we have had there has been delicious. I don't think they do the wontons at the CS location.

Looking forward to trying yak and yeti in October for the first time

I think you will enjoy it. It's very relaxed in there and there's something for all the family to eat. We would definitely go back again. Thanks for reading!

As we were spoilt for choice for table service at the Animal Kingdom :-)rotfl:), we once more visited Yak & Yeti (which had been a surprise hit in 2010). Again, we had a super server in the shape of Brian - which is always good.
I started with the chicken Thai Chilli Wings - oh my, those are so good. But so many of them. I was still munching on them when the entree arrived. These are sweet and sticky with a nice kick to them and, always a bonus, plenty of meat on them. Highly recommended (along with a moist towelette!)
Now, it pains me to say this but probably the best burger of the entire trip was a non Disney burger (strictly speaking as Yak & Yeti is run by the same people behind Rain Forest Cafe and T-Rex). The Kobe Beef Burger was huge, succulent, well cooked and absolutely a hit. The taste was amazing. I'd highly recommend this for all the burger lovers out there.
Now I was too full for dessert except somehow managed to eat more of Sarah's sorbet than she did. This again was lovely with a nice contrast of flavours in mango, lemon and raspberry (I was surprised at how nice the mango was, as it doesn't seem a natural sorbet flavour to me). Very refreshing.
I also had an African beer which for the life of me I can't remember what it was (but Shari has all the notes, so I'm sure she will...). All in all - despite the dampness of the seats from our excursion to Kali River Rapids, this was a hit and really a must if you want to do table service in Animal Kingdom (because, obviously, there's sooooo much choice of venues...).

All caught up again and feeling somewhat peckish now!
Loving the reviews and looking forward to more... popcorn::

Jumping in here! Loving your reviews so far!

* The food at Kona looks fantastic! I'm adding that to my must-try list!
* Sunshine Seasons is such a great place for quick service. I love the variety - and that Strawberry Shortcake is amazing!
* Tokyo Dining is a place we haven't tried, but I really like the looks of your meal. It's nice to be able to try a variety of things. I would love the try the tempura shrimp - I tried to make my own for dinner the other night and it was a disaster! We had to disable to smoke alarm! I think from now on I'll be sticking to ordering tempura out instead ;)
* Hooray for a Yak and Yeti review! I just convinced my parents we should try it out on our upcoming April trip :) Very excited to give this one a shot - I love this style of food and have seen a lot of good reviews!

Hey Meryll - hope you like the fact that you get two for the price of one with us!:lmao:

Later that evening we went to Downtown Disney to do some shopping. Afterwards, me, Sarah and Simon went to Wolfgang Puck Express for some supper. I'm always very impressed with the wide selection of food available here and the nice restaurant. Sorry I don't have any photos from this evening but it all went a bit pearshaped.

We were faced with a very indifferent server who was even less interested when she found out we were on the dining plan. She didn't even give us any hints about where we should get our drinks from. We ordered the chinois chicken salad for Sarah, a meatloaf sandwich for me and a turkey melt sandwich for Simon.

Luckily we had a great guy looking after us at the table who sorted us out with drinks and things.

When the food finally arrived (it was quite busy and we had quite a wait) the original server had put the wrong thing through for Simon - they brought him a vegetable sandwich. Now, anyone who knows Papaboogie will know that vegetables are evil to him. Our nice old guy went off and very quickly brought him the food we had ordered.

The food was very tasty - my meatloaf sandwich was amazing. But we were put off by the bad service at the till. Luckily, we had a couple more positive here before the end of the holiday.

Hollywood Studios day! And by lunchtime we were ravenous and had an appointment at 50's Prime Time Cafe. We got there a few minutes early and had a nice sit down in the lounge area. We love this place - it's such fun!

I had a Grandma's picnic punch:

Simon had a Samuel Adams beer:

DisneyDay5022.jpg

We always like to share a portion of lovely, crispy onion rings to start here:

DisneyDay5023.jpg

The other three all had the fried chicken:

DisneyDay5025.jpg

But I decided to be more adventurous and have the Mom's samplings - fried chicken, meatloaf and pot roast:

DisneyDay5024.jpg

This was absolutely delicious! I love getting a little taste of everything. Although in this case it was a big taste of everything! But I was determined to save room for dessert! Because I got to have a go with one of these:

DisneyDay5028.jpg

Yes, the dessert menu's come on a viewmaster! Very quaint.

I decided on the cheesecake:

DisneyDay5029.jpg

Simon had the apple cobbler:

DisneyDay5030.jpg

Sarah had the parfait but I don't appear to have a photo of it....:confused3

We really enjoyed this restaurant once again. Our server was very funny and gave us lots of reminders to keep our elbows off the table and to eat our veg. The food was good and homely and we always love to watch the old TV programmes.

Coming up: An evening at EPCOT and dinner at Yachtsman Steakhouse

Lunch at 50s Prime Time Diner was a good choice (in 2010 the combination of late afternoon dinner and a rain storm made this an appalling venue choice - although the food was still good - with a wait of more than an hour despite an ADR!) for a popular restaurant.
The waiter was fun, although not quite as good as 2010 who had been a bit more 'improv', our waiter was fun but did feel as though he was very much on script.
As Shari noted we started with the very crisp and tasty onion rings before I moved onto my personal favourite of Golden Fried Chicken. Were I to win the Lottery tomorrow, I would fill a bath with this wonderful food and bathe and eat in it all. Despite giving you all nightmares and potential future trauma with that image and putting you off chicken for life, I would heartily recommend trying this as it is really a fab dish. Aside from the green stuff (which is no better than the yellow stuff served in 2010 - Shari again has notes on vegetable content as that doesn't actually form any part of my food vocabulary), it was great.
The apple cobbler (apparently seasonal fruit but if anyone has ever had anything but apple, I'd love to know) was delicious too. Quite rich and filling and with a generous portion of ice cream, I thoroughly enjoyed this dessert. A definite hit all round.
This all set me up nicely for an afternoon of Star Tours goodness (which if you hadn't guessed from the avatar, Star Tours is a pretty important part of my holiday).

Thanks for that lovely mental image Papaboogie....:scared1:

Here are a couple more photos from 50's Prime Time Cafe:

As a friend pointed out to me it was very cool that my top matched the wallpaper! :rotfl:

Wonderful review of 50's PT! I had a ADR there and changed it to Hollywood Brown Derby... But I REALLY want the fried chicken!! LOL maybe I will change the ADR back....
