Using central reservations versus renting points from broker.

We have almost made our decision to rent points from a reliable broker towards a 2 BR villa in June 2013...then we stopped ourselves. :(
I would say the biggest problem I have/fear is...what if we had to cancel, and we're out thousands of dollars with no refund? Of course, we have NO intentions of ever cancelling. I'd only do this if someone was seriously ill/death in family/etc/MAJOR emergency. We are able to spend the money on a wonderful vacation but I am not sure if we're able to say goodbye to that amount! :scared1:
How did those of you who chose to rent from a broker get over this fear?! I feel like I'm being logical AND a chicken at the same time! ha!
Thanks for your advice!

Buy travel insurance.

if your plans aren't rock solid, i wouldn't rent pts. i think that's reasonable.

there are trade-offs for the money you save.

I agree. If there are ANY doubts in your plans whatsoever, renting points is not the way to go.

I felt that way my first time renting points... I have a fear of commitment... What if something better comes along...

But in the end I ended up renting again for January (third time) b/c the discounts really out-weighed my panic attacks.. :rotfl2:

Each time I have been so happy in the end, first because I was in great resorts at almost the same price as Value, second I saved $$$$$ ! Its just waiting until the time comes.. If you are like me you will torture yourself... (Even though I got the resort I have always been saying I want to try)...

I'm facing the same dilema for April 2013.

We currently have a cash RO reservation for a theme park view at BLT, and we're waitlisted for a point rental through a broker. If the rental goes through, we'll get trip insurance. An AAA discount isn't available to for our CRO reservation, and I suspect it might be excluded from any future promotions as well. In the end, we're willing to pay rack rate if necessary, even if it smarts a bit.

Frankly, I'm more nervous that Disney will decide to discourage point rentals between now and our trip (like leave renters out in the cold on this nextgen stuff...). As it stands, we won't have access to the TOTW lounge, and the Cali Grill will be closed for reservations.

If a true emergency happened, just tell yourself that you can use the money you saved by renting points to rebook a value or mod trip once the emergency passes.

What is "nexgen stuff"...I haven't heard this rumor yet. Thanks.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Of course our plans would be rock-solid! I just mean I still have anxiety with the total inability to cancel. I think it's just the practical/logical side of me!

Thats how I am too.. but I know it is worth it! (I am a control freak and hate feeling like I have no control)

I also rented points right now for my Jan 2013 trip. I figure the costs savings are just too good to pass up.. and I get the opportunity to stay in a great resort at a fraction of the cost.

Either way you will have a great time! Good luck :goodvibes
