Pin codes

There must be a marketing rhyme or reason to them, but no one seems to know what it is.
I DID generate two emails with pin codes recently by looking into a resort I've never been to (DVC) and not booking. But I haven't visited in 3 years, so that might be more of a factor.
I can't go till '13, and I've received FOUR pins for fall 2012. Go figure. :confused3

We were fortunate enough to get a 30% PIN code that we'll be putting to good use in 16 days at the Beach Club.

I keep hoping, but I've NEVER been so lucky.

I read somewhere on the net that it appears they are triggered by how much you interact with Disney and even by saying that you aren't booking because the price is too high. That said, I've NEVER been asked why I'm not ready to book. Apparently, I'm not worthy of a discount. :(

Between my husband & I's Disney accounts, we have gotten at least 100 quotes straight from Disney, each requested a CD, and made a dozen phone calls. I'm starting to thing, there is no hope of getting one.

If you get one AFTER you've booked, can you apply it?

1) I doubt the bolded is true. I think it's more about when have you been there last and what are you looking up.

2) Yes, you can apply a pin code after you have booked. You might have to change room views or resorts depending on the sale room availability at your chosen resort.

Yep. We just got one two weeks ago with Free Dining (before the free dining offer was out). The dates were different and we did consider it, but it just wasn't feasible, so we're staying off site for a trip even sooner! (which kind of sucks since now there are virtually no ADRs available for the places we want to eat at)

I read it on one of the boards as just a speculation. Basically it just stated that there really seems to be no rhyme or reason to it, so try anything and everything to trigger one. It gave the examples of having everyone in the party order a DVD, etc.

I have my doubts I'll get one, but glad to see I can apply it later. We hesitated to book "just in case", but then decided it was better to book and be guaranteed a room. We're arriving on a busy day and didn't want to risk not getting what we wanted.

Thanks everyone. We aren't going till 2013. But I am looking now. Just got back from our honeymoon(not in Disney ). Can't wait to go back!!

I dont know if it matters, but I registered my email (2 different emails actually) on one of the Disney sites and selected that I want Disney info and I get pin codes to both accounts like clockwork. Nothing yet beyond december though, crossing my fingers for soon.

We've received PIN codes in the past year. My oldest son was sent one a few months ago, but we couldn't use the dates. We were looking at fall break dates in October. Oddly, we received another one via snail mail last week and when my wife called there was no discount whatsoever. The price quoted was actually $4 more a nite at a moderate than the rack rate shown on mousesavers site. Even the CM seemed confused.:confused3

I have booked thru AAA and changed my rate due to the fact I got the 35 percent pin code, if free dining comes along will I be able to change again? I know I will not be able to use two discounts but FD would be a better discount. I have already paid in full for May trip.

Hi! I'm new at this and was wondering what are pin codes and how do you know you have one? Is it like a coupon in the mail or is it a code on a Disney mailing? I just got our planning DVD and there is a code above our name, is this one? Or are they obvious? Thanks!!

Last year I got a pin for 30% off the rooms and free dining from Aug-Sept. A few days ago I received a pin for 35% off the rooms.

What are the chances of getting a PIN CODE for mid March???

When I called the other day to see if I had one, the CM asked my dates and when I said hoping mid April she told me that with the PINS being sent out, there is a blackout between March 20 (or around there but I'm thinking the 20th) to April 20th. (I gave the possible arrival date of 4/16 since DD's b-day is 4/17) And of course I didn't have a PIN under my name anyways.

I received one last January and we originally booked under it but then I got a better deal with the free dining for this past trip.
