Les Mis the movie has a trailer!

I've been waiting for years for a Les Mis movie. This trailer looks great but Anne Hathaway isn't really blowing me away. However she sounds more like someone who is falling apart and less like an opera singer. So it could just be that they're going more realistic and less Broadway.

No matter what they've already sold me a ticket and I'll buy the Blu-Ray when it comes out.

Well, she kinda is falling apart at that point in the story, so it seems appropriate, especially for a movie, where they don't have to sing to the rafters like they do on stage.

They're going to be singing live on camera for this, so it's going to be incredible. I heard Hugh Jackman sang "Bring Him Home" 14 times in two hours when they filmed it earlier this month.

It looks amazing, I can't wait. It's my favorite musical! I've seen it 9 times.

I agree Jen. I guess the point I was trying to make is that I'm just so used to the overblown stage singing for Les Mis and the movie requires more emotion and less volume.

After watching the trailer 10 times he voice is really growing on me. Yes I've watched it 10 times...I love Les Mis.

Also the small part where you actually see Anne singing is amazing. I'm sure actually watching her sing it will be a different experience to just hearing it.

And Jen, I'm really jealous that you've gotten to see them actually filming!!!!

That's the way I'm used to it too. My first cassette tape that I had of the Broadway cast actually broke because I listened to it so many times!

I've watched it at least 10 times already too. I read that it was going online today so I looked for it first thing this morning and wound up being late for work because I kept replaying it.

I can't wait! I've been waiting for a movie version of this forever.

There's a slideshow with a bunch of new photos here: http://mediagallery.usatoday.com/Les+Miserables-From+Stage+to+Screen/G3938

Very excited here in this house! My DS17 played Thenardier in his HS production this spring, and we are all about Les Mis now!!

Thanks for the photos! :thumbsup2

There has been so much talk about a Les Mis movie over the past 20 years and I was afraid they'd never make it. But it's finally here and I'm really excited too!

I have a program from the Broadway production that actually has this ad:

And that never happened!

I'm still blown away that this is finally a movie, and that it looks amazing. :thumbsup2

Who did they end up casting in the roles of Eponine and the Thenardiers?

Eponine is Samantha Barks, who played Eponine on stage in London and in the 25th Anniversary concert.

Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter are playing the Thernardiers. I heard they just started shooting their scenes this week, I think.

I don't care for it. I would have liked her to just sing the dang song and finish a complete sentence all the way through. It's like the National Anthem, I hate when people mess with songs I really love too much.

That's the way I'm used to it too. My first cassette tape that I had of the Broadway cast actually broke because I listened to it so many times!

I wore through the cassette tape a friend let me borrow, too. Then I had to walk over to the theatre & buy both her and me new cassettes. I saw the Broadway show 4 times. I got to see Colm Wilkinson as Valjean. I'm surprised I could hear him over the tears while he sung, Bring Him Home.

I was listening to the soundtrack on my way to work today and I can see where Anne's version is probably for the best. I don't think that the stage version of the songs would work on the big screen. For lack of a better term it's just too theatrical.

It's going to be fantastic. I'm another who wore through the cassette tape.

And I think the casting of the Thenardiers is spot on. I was so excited when I heard that.

SO EXCITED that Samantha Barks is Eponine! By far hers is my favorite rendition of "On My Own". My DD and I will be there as soon as this movie opens - and probably return a couple more times!

I was thinking the exact same thing!

I'd go watch this just to see Hugh Jackman and listen to him sing.

I'm just thankful he can sing. I think Hugh Jackman and Sahsa Baron Cohen are the only reasons I will see this movie. Not too happy with the rest of the cast. I am too picky and stuck up for my own good! :lmao::lmao:

HUGE Les Miz fan here too!!

I think it is incredible that the trailer is out while they are still filming!

I like Anne's version.

It is an interpretation for the screen, which is much more intimate than a huge auditorium.
She is "acting" the song, not trying to raise the rafters.

Hugh actually fiilmed "Bring Him Home" on his real son Oscar's birthday. I think Tom Hooper did that on purpose - how's that for added emotional punch? Tweets from the "barricade boys" imply that Hugh gave a "master class" in singing.

But most of all, I am SO glad Eponine is not going to be played by Taylor Swift!!!

I'm thrilled with this!!! I can't wait to see it!!! I saw the show for the first time 25 years ago in London with the original cast! I was on a college trip, and we lucked into the tickets. It was amazing! I've seen it several times since! Christmas can't come soon enough!

For anyone interested, my father's theater company, the Utah Shakespeare Festival is producing Les Mis this summer (June through October) in Cedar City Utah. I may be biased, but I think it's going to be an incredible production. If you want to, go to their website, www.bard.org and check things out. They'd love to have y'all come see it live before the film!
