Trick or Treat Scavenger Hunt Information

StaceyL0u has started a Facebook group PM her or BMickey with your real name for an invitation to join.

We are doing a Trivia Trick or Treat Scavenger Hunt. All are welcome to join, you don't need a kid to join, just a bag of candy, (enough for the # of participants), to join. We will collect the candy at the Disboard meet on the first day of the cruise. You will be handed out the trivia sheets and will have until November 1st to find your answers. On November 1st you can come collect your prizes. Details on the when and where to follow.

The last day to join will be September 1, 2012.

See news below for updates!

Lanyards

The Lanyards are closed, thanks everyone for paying so quickly!

The lanyards will be $3/lanyard. There maybe a limited # so if you would like them sign up soon. Money will be collected through paypal prior to the cruise. The lanyards will be passed out at the group meet on the first day.

For all those who have requested a lanyard, you can now pay for them here. DisneyOrBustColorado has made a website to collect the money follow the link and you will be taken to the site, where you can pay with paypal.

Please put your DIS group name/s in the "instructions for seller" box so that DisneyOrBustColorado will know who you are & can mark you paid.

Other Information

The Halloween cruise last year on the Magic sounded like they did a lot of extra planning and maybe we may want to borrow some of their ideas. Here is the trip report a trip report from it http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2580240&highlight=halloween

Here is a link to the cruise picture above, it is full size and please feel free to use it. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7113/6971294180_f2c51672ff_o.jpg

News
September 20 Recipe exchange is closed!

September 14 FE is closed!

September 6 Lanyards are now closed. Thanks DisneyOrBustColorado for all your hard work on them, and thank you everyone for paying so quickly.

August 26,2012 From Maddiesmum03: Just to give everyone an update of our scavenger hunt. If you would like to join in the "fee" to participate is a bag/pack of candy/chocolates etc. At the sailaway DISmeet, Stacy and I will be handing out the question sheets in exchange for your "fee" (while Melissa is handing out your lanyards!).

There will be 3 parts to the scavenger hunt, Part 1 will have participants finding the answers to Day of the Dead themed questions from magnets placed on willing DIS group member's cabin doors. This will not only make the delivery of FE gifts a little more interesting, but will be educational in finding out more about the big Mexican celebration that takes place on our 2nd sea day, the day after we say goodbye to Cozumel and the day we will hand out the goodie bags (we will give out the magnets to those of you participating when we give out the sheets and ask that you put them on your cabin door for others to find).

Part 2 of the hunt will be to find the answers to Disney Fantasy based questions and should be a fun way to explore the ship.

Part 3 is a traditional scavenger hunt of "treasure" that needs collecting with a Disney twist. We know everyone has their own itinery for a perfect cruise and we hope this hunt will be fun and informative without taking up too much precious cruise time. It can be completed ( or partially completed - there is a goodie bag for every entrant!) in your own time and is perfect for everyone to enjoy regardless of age, either indivdually or as a group.

On Thursday we will be handing out the goodie bags in exchange for your answer sheets. This will probably be in the morning over a couple of hours, in the same location as our first meet, but this will be finalised nearer the time. This exchange will not have an impact on your plans and could literally take a couple of minutes, unless you want to "hang around" for a kind of informal DISmeet. There will be several other prizes, including one for the best answers and as your name and cabin number will be on your sheets, we can contact the "winners" after all the sheets are in - and let everyone know who has won etc via our thread after the cruise.

We would like to know who would like to join in by 1st September if possible, so we can get everything printed and ready. If you think this sounds fun now you know a few more details, please post so you can be added to the list of participants.

August 16, 2012 Here is a link to navigators from June.

August 12, 2012 If you signed up for lanyards you can now pay for them here

August 9, 2012 DisneyOrBustColorado is going to create a website to pay for the lanyards, she will also design them and bring them to the cruise! So keep watching for details on how to pay!

June 1, 2012 - We are ordering Dismeet lanyards for the group. That way we can pick each other out of the crowd easier and so it will be easier to keep track of who is attending our functions like the trick or treat scavenger hunt. If you are interested in getting one please post the # you would like. We are think they will cost under $5 and if we get enough people in the group hopefully the price will be closer to $2. I will put up some style options for people to choose from.

May 17, 2012 - he first FE group is closed and we are starting a second group for new people to the thread. New FE groups use around 20 cabins as the cut off or August 27

May 15, 2012 - We are looking at putting limits on the # of cabins in the FE. The consensus so far is the first group will be full at 20 cabins or as of August 27, 2012. We can start a second group if there is interest. Please post if you have concerns with this plan.

May 8, 2012 - We are also organising a post card recipe exchange. Let us know if you are interested. From StaceyL0u "the postcard recipe exchanges looks like you each by a set of postcards from where you live, write a family/local recipe on the back and deliver them to the other people in the group"

May 4, 2012 - Scavenger Hunt will be more of an independant activity, picking up clue sheet near beginning of cruise and returning at the end to receive your prize.

Here is a link to Navigators from the April 7 cruise: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5, Day 6, and Day 7

April 30, 2012 - I updated the 3rd post to include who is interested in participating in the Scavenger hunt. Based on posts I made a best guess on peoples interest for volunteering please let me know if I have got it wrong and I will fix it.:)

If anybody partaking in the scavenger hunt has an allergy please note it in the roll call.

We are flying in early on Oct 25, I am hoping to to do a Halloween Party. We are staying until November 7 and hope to do the Christmas party as well!

I am also looking forward to attending the Food and Wine Festival.

I agree about the luggage space, so I am not sure about bringing extra stuff. I do have an idea for the fish extender gift and I probably can fit in a box of mini chocolate bars and a bag of rockets. I am sure DH will be thrilled.

If any one wants to volunteer to co-ordinate the Trick or Treat Scavenger hunt please let me know.

Gilsan...6 months !!!!!, just to be nosy what kind of luggage allowance do you get flying from Canada ?, they have really cut our allowance flying from the UK (i hate calling it the UK) ,we have 1 case per passenger and 1 carry on,although if we fly with a US carrier they have a much bigger hand luggage allowance !

Cheers Iain.

I am flying with Air Canada and they started charging for checked luggage to the US about a year ago, and it is $25 a bag. We can bring a carry on bag, a small suitcase up to 10kg and a personal item. We also can bring any electronics and they don't count ie a camera bag or computer bag.

Within Canada and everywhere else other than the USA you get 1 checked bag up to 23kg for "free", plus the carryon and the personal item. Our other large airline Westjet still include a bag to the US, but there prices are much higher.

We always plan to just carry a carryon each, but usually end up checking one or two bags.:rotfl:

If yes for scaveger hunt state the number of kids and/or if you are available to volunteer, we are also looking for someone to co-ordinate the scavenger hunt.

Katzs13 is heading up the FE so if you want to be involved with the exchange send her a PM.

We could also do a group meet at the beginning of the cruise if anyone is interested.

If any one wants to volunteer to co-ordinate the Trick or Treat Scavenger hunt for kids please let me know. I can help but unable to be in charge of it.

I would think it would involve keeping track of the #of kids participating, the amount of candy needed and finding people to man the candy stations. As well as the preplanning of clues and planning the stations.

StaceyL0u has started a Facebook group PM her or BMickey with your real name for an invitation to join.

The Halloween cruise last year on the Magic sounded like they did a lot of extra planning and maybe we may want to borrow some of their ideas. Here is the trip report a trip report from it http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2580240&highlight=halloween

I agree about Cozumel. it looks like Halloween will be on that day, so I am debating about doing a short excursion so we can be back in time for the DCL Halloween events.

How would people feel about having the scavenger hunt on Thursday, our sea day instead of actual Halloween? We dock in Cozumel early morning and all aboard is something like 5.30pm. This is the only decent port time we have on this cruise, we are so short changed at both GC and Costa Maya, and we have a full day out planned, as I'm sure do lots of you. Evening just wouldn't work because of both dinner sittings, shows and Disney's own Halloween offerings. As we would only just have left Mexico, and Thursday would be their Dia de los Muertos, perhaps we could use that at a thinly veiled excuse for a scavenger hunt!
Here's what wiki has to say:
"In some parts of the country (especially the cities, where in recent years there are displaced other customs), children in costumes roam the streets, knocking on people's doors for a calaverita, a small gift of candies or money; they also ask passersby for it. This custom is similar to that of Halloween's trick-or-treating and is relatively recent"

I confess, I am biased and would prefer it to be on a sea day, or just while we are not in port for purely selfish reasons;) because I would love to be part of it and would happily help with the logistics of co-ordinating it and on the day and I would hate for DD to miss out because we are off the ship at the time it takes place.

How do others feel?

Hi, I think that's a wonderful idea! In fact I love the idea of incorporating Mexico into it and would love to be involved organising the clues and such for that kid of thing, also what do you all think of making it family based that way us adults can have some fun too?! If I did ten clues and someone else took on ten or something similiar, every body could be involved? :confused3
