Used an awesome National code for my April trip!

Its not hard to cancel, like most corporate accounts, you have to call to change or cancel thats all, takes 2 mins.

Or cancel through the "contact us" link online which I just did at the suggestion from a previous poster. I received the email confirming the cancellation a little over 12 hours after I did the "contact us". I like this method because I have email proof - not that I anticipate any trouble at all. I just don't like trusting the person on the other end of the phone.

Adding that I trusted this code and would have used it, but found a cheaper cost for a minivan instead of the full-size car! It is through Alamo but appears to be just one-way rentals (i.e. pickup at MCO and return to TPA). My total price for 10 days over July 4th went from $285 to $212. Don't think I'll beat that!

LOL, who do you think the person sending you the cancellation email is? Why, it is a person that doubles as the "other end of the phone". I can see your point about having email proof, but, you can also check the status by going to the site and typing in your confirmation number. You can actually see it in print. :)

It isn't hard to cancel at all. You do have to call but it really takes less than 2 minutes to cancel. As gmeh1 said, you can pull it up online to see it was cancelled as well. If you are Emerald Club, just look under your itineraries. If it isn't there then it was cancelled :)

Technology has spoiled us to think that if it isn't instantaneous or requires minimal interaction with another human being then it is hard but that really isn't the case!

I booked using the KLM code for National at San Francisco airport. $415 for 7 full days plus 3 hours (about $365 otherwise). The rate included ALL the optional insurances. Sounds way too good to be true. I'll have to watch it.

I saw some low rates on Alamo this morning for pickup this weekend. I leave next week and watch a couple of times a day. There has been several drops on Alamo over the last 24 hours. Still not dirt cheap, but going in the right direction. Not much happening in the National site, though. They are stuck in the high mode! I've got a pretty good rate with Alamo, but am hoping to switch to National if they start to come within the same ballpark...even a little higher.

Used the code on 04/04/12 - no problems at all. Two different reservations: one a minivan w/counter service and the other EI.

Both Alamo and National are offering very low minivan base prices right now. I just booked my minivan rental with National. My pickup date is April 19th (1 week from now) and the base rate for both companies is $140 before discounts, coupons or fees added. THis is a great price, esp. if anyone has to have a minivan. One week rental after discounts and coupons (plus fees) is coming in at (est.) $150 a week. I got a 23 day rental for $490! which is amazing. Just wanted to share. I didn't use the KLM code, I used my regular codes and coupons to get my price. Quick, take a look as I don't think it will last throughout the day. I'm guessing they are having a "clearance" sale of excess right now.

UPDATE: these low prices are now gone. Hope someone other than myself managed to book one.

I have a car rented with the KLM code but it is for the fall. I was wondering if anyone has used the code and their rate went down from the time that the rented it and the time they picked it up.

The rate that I have for the fall is so much cheaper than anything else right now but I was wondering if I should keep looking or check it off my "to do" list.

We return tomorrow after an 11day rental. I have my flying blue and my contract so hopefully no problems. I will post if any.

Just bagged a standard size SUV for $227.40 with Alamo.
April 28 - May 5, insiders id and coupon 5027112.

Midsize SUV was $182.69.

Just noticed I put this under the National post.... got too excited...lol.
However was able to get standard SUV with National, AARP id and same coupon as above for $227.41.

I just tried this code on Alamo and nothing no discount. I need a week in Sept. :sad2:

Probably no discounts out for Sept. yet. Most coupons available now expire in June.

Nope, that's not the case. The code listed on the first page is no longer working as well as it was. I have a reservation for December 22-29 for $196 and it is now coming up at $340 for the same dates. It *still* includes fees, insurance and most taxes.

As I said: MOST expire in June, not all, MOST.

how do you find the discount codes?

This site is a good source and you can try mousesavers.com Also, join the Insiders at Alamo and Emerald Club at National. Both are free to join and they often email information about discounts with coupon codes for you to use.

Definitely keep on checking these boards, the members here are very good about posting money saving coupons and codes. :)
