2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ ~ March, April and May ~Do Not Post Here-Old Thread

Oh I while I did love the wild africa trek..I loved the keys to the kingdom tour and the around the world on a segWAY TOUR much better if I have to say which is better..and the kttk tour and the segway are half the price of the wild africa trek.

Where is the closest grocery store, super Wal-Mart or Target work too. Just looking for a place to get breakfast items and beverages for our stay. Thinking it may be significantly cheaper off property as compared to the Marketplace

Will you be coming from the airport or I-95? There is a Super Target just off 417 at Orange Blossom Trail that is the easiest from that direction in my opinion. You may need exact change for a toll there though...can't remember for sure.

If you'll be driving down 75, the Florida Turnpike and 429, the Super Target Teena mentioned is great.

My favorite grocery store is the Publix at 192 and International Drive near Celebration but it's not my choice for a quick stop from the airport.

Beaches and Cream used to serve food from the takeout line but that ended about seven years ago. Now it is just ice cream, shakes, beverages.... Mickey bars, too, last I knew.

DS1 and his wife did the Animal Trek. Like LMO429, they really enjoyed it.

Lurker here! My bucket list is to stay in all the WDW resorts at least once--two down, many to go...

I'd never heard of Tastycakes before following this thread. I saw some in our local Wal-mart a couple of weeks ago and immediately thought of Teena! Little Debbie headquarters is located a couple hours south of us, so that's what we eat here.

Hopefully one day I'll be able to contribute to this thread when I stay at YC & BC!

:wave2: and :welcome:

Glad you delurked and identified yourself. Can't wait until the YC/BC make it to your list

Also coming by car next week Is there a need for noodles to be left behind????

There are between 5-7 Noodles out there now, listed under the name Mrs. Noodle. Not sure how many of them have been gathered together or if some of them are stragglers.

Until we get a report on the noodle status (pixarmom will be doing that in a couple of weeks), I think everyone else should hold off on the noodles for the swap. When is your trip (I could go check, but then I have to go ALL the way back to page 1)?

Just got some sad news from United. They decided to change our flights times and shorten our stay. We were going to arrive at MCO around 2PM, now 5PM and leave around 5PM but now 2PM Departure.

I don't understand how they can just do this and it all be ok?

Bummer!

GRRRR!!! AIRTrashcAN messed around with our flights one year. We originally had a 2 PM to 5 PM direct flight back to Boston. They changed that to an 11 am departure, layover in Atlanta and return to Boston at the original hour of 5 PM. Worst part was we missed seeing Teena on that trip because we had to leave an hour before she came in to work. :sad2: With our original schedule we could have spent some time visiting with her.

I just booked the night before we leave at a Boston hotel. With living 50 minutes away from the airport and having a 7:00am flight we thought it better to stay in Boston.. The might before we leave is the Boston marathon, every hotel in Boston is charging double and they are all pay now no cancelation.. I would much rather be spending my $300 :scared1: on another night as the BC!!

Don't even get me started on AIRTrashcAN!!!!

We check in on Saturday April 7 but we are still trying to get a check in on friday april 6. we will be there until April 12 but are still trying to add on until the 14th. right now we are moving to Poly. getting close though so not sure about getting the extra days. i am planning on bringing noodles for the lazy river down.

Also Thanks for info on the tours. dS 10 and DD 8 would not be able to do the segway tour. I don't know if DH would like to do Keys to Kingdom and DS is getting to Cool age. I will do that with DD though. i know we would both love it.

Kids would really believe the scariness of the swinging bridge at this age.

trying to think of some things to do that won't be affected by high crowd levels.

Doing :laundy: now!!!! Going to pack kids this weekend and try to start me. That way I can pick up anything last minute I need.:woohoo:

Hi smillerguy! I've done KTTK and it's fabulous, but there is a minimum age requirement that neither of your children meet, so you wouldn't be able to take them on it (unless that's changed in the last few years, I think it was 14 or 16 when I went).

We did Keys to the Kingdom in October and I'm almost certain that the minimum age is 16. They don't allow younger children backstage because they don't want to ruin the Magic!

Thanks for the explanation. i was thinking of the family tour.

need to spend some time finalizing my plans and try for a few more ADR's. this was a last minute trip for us. I'm usually the one calling at 180 days out.

I can second the Around the world on a Segway tour. My friends surprised me with this on my December trip and it was fantastic!! I'm thinking about surprising DH with it on our September trip. I would love to do it again, but we won't have my mom with us this year to watch the kids.

I think the Family Magic tour would be a lot of fun. What about the Pirates and Pals Fireworks Cruise? That's another one that I've thought about for my kids.

I have a long history with WDW; I love it and it gives me something to look forward to. I don't get there every year; sometimes it's been 4 years between trips :( , but I manage. When my career was going fine I stayed at a monorail deluxe. Then an illness left me out of work on disability; with the help of friends and family sharing rooms, I had several stays at the moderate level and enjoyed it very much. This year I'm getting to go to the new AoA resort with friends and I'm looking forward to it, but the reason I'm writing this is my Disney Dream is to stay at the Beach Club someday. It won't be easy financially, but it's a goal to work towards and there are probably different strategies that may help me do it some year. In the mean time, I'm wishing on a star. :fish:

Be sure to visit on your trip. No reason you can't enjoy some Beaches and Cream or just enjoy the lobby. Just walk over on an EPCOT day! And let us know how you enjoy AoA. It sounds awsome!

Thank you so much Natebenma!! I figured that was the case - but of course - had to confirm just to put my mind at ease!! :) I would love to be added to the Be Our Guest list ... the dates of our trip are May 7th to 11th. Thanks again for everything ... it's really wonderful to be able to log on to this thread every day and read everyone's friendly & fun commentary! :goodvibes

Welcome to the friendliest family on the DIS.

Trying to get caught up on this thread... Thanks so much to all of you for sharing all of this information.

Our family will be visiting Yacht Club in June. I'm so looking forward to a first Star Wars Weekend for my little Jedi (DS8: he refers to DD6 as his little Sith-ster) and to spending my birthday at Disney!! :yay: I didn't tell my kids at first because I wasn't 100% sure that everything would work out with time off from work, etc, but now vacation time has been requested and granted, trip is paid for, and ADRs are made. Now - how do I get through the next 72 days?

Welcome alala .....What are your June dates? Dee can add you to our guest list!

We did the Family Magic Tour in 2006 when the kids were 6, 7 and 9 and they had a ball!!!

We are in Northeastern PA and Tastycakes are EVERYWHERE!! They are like a household staple...when you say you are going to pick up cakes at the store, there would never be a mention of little debbies or hostess...in fact the only reason I even heard of hostess was from the silly commercials with the racoon snowboarding.

Another local hot one is Gertrude Hawk Chocolates...especially peanut butter smidgens!! On our next trip down, unfortunately not for 2 years, we'll make sure to bring Tastycakes and some Gertrude Hawks for the CMs to try out!!

Ok do you NOT love those little pumpkin smidges or what...Love the peanut butter or caramel ones. either work for me!!!! I need to bring you some of those too Teena!!!

Hi there, just curious if there are any late night bars open on the grounds. I think I remember seeing a lounge or two in the photos, but was just wondering how late they operate. Thanks in advance!

I've stayed at the Yacht Club before and to be honest, didn't really check out the lounge there.

However, it's just a quick walk over to the Boardwalk where there are several nice bars: Jellyroll's (Piano Bar), ESPN Club (Sports Bar) and Atlantic Dance Club (a dance club, as the name implies). Of these, I've only been to Jellyroll's, but it's a GREAT time! I highly recommend checking it out!

We just booked our first stay at the Beach Club for July, and I am BEYOND excited. I've never stayed at a deluxe resort. We've stayed at POFQ that last few years.

I just have a question about the daybeds in the rooms. DO all rooms have full size daybeds? My nephew (12) is a terrible sleeper. He cannot share a bed with anyone, he moves and kicks all night long. We have always brought a blow-up bed down for him, but we (and he) have been excited about the prospect of not packing the blowup and him sleeping in a real bed. However, I've read conflicting reports. Some say that not all rooms have them, some say that some rooms have small sized beds. So what have you seen in the rooms???

Don't you just love POFQ? That was the first resort hubby and I stayed at together and we loved it. Stayed at CBR second time and just didn't love it. I think POFQ is our Mod-of-choice....but we sure are looking forward to our YC stay in Oct. (Also our first Deluxe stay.)

There are quite a number of different room/bed configurations. Some have two queens and a daybed. There are two different types of daybeds also. If you go to the first page of this thread, there is great detail about the room types, the daybeds, etc. You can request a room with two queens and a daybed but unless you have five on your reservation, you may not get it because obviously those rooms go first to people with five on their reservation. If you should request a room with two queens and a daybed, it is only a request and requests are not guaranteed. However, you can always call housekeeping and request a rollaway bed be sent to your room.

I haven't been to WDW in 7 years and I looking forward to celebrating my 10 year anniversary with my DH. The kids are staying with grandma and grandpa! We were booked at the BC but changed to the YC for the full balcony, GV. This is definitely a splurge trip! We are going back to WDW in Dec. with the family and my parents and renting a 4 bedroom house for half of what we are paying for the YC. It is worth it though. I love staying on site and we are going to be visiting Epcot and HS at least 2 days each, plus no rental car or worrying about our luggage!!!

Last time we visited 7 years ago, we stayed off site for a week through my MIL's time share and one day at Port Orleans to get the Disney Magic! Plus I wanted Disney soaps! Port Orleans was beautiful. I can't remember if it was POFQ or PORS.

The tap water at the time share had an awful sulfur smell, so much so that I felt we smelled like sulfur too. I can't remember if the water at PO smelled as well. Does Disney filter their water or does it smell too? Am I going to smell like sulfur while at the YC? I guess I can always jump in the pool and smell like chlorine.

Thanks
