june 1, 2013 magic med 7 day

Just two little tidbits! First of all I've been reading Med trip reports like crazy and I'm getting a little nervous about how much pickpocketing I've seen! :scared1: Is there anything that you do to make sure that you don't get pickpocketed or any precautions you take?

And second, I just bought Rick Steves' Mediterranean Cruise Ports book and it is fabulous! I'm not extremely far into it yet but he's got some great tips and information. I highly recommend it! He is all for doing ports on your own but he's also realistic and lets you know when you really SHOULD do an excursion or tour. Can't wait to read more!

Thanks!

We bought pacsafe http://www.pacsafe.com/www/index.php? anti-theft bags the last time we went to Barcelona. They have locks and knife proof material. I bought a small purse, I would buy a bigger one next time.

We also wore a money belt and neck wallet, we put $, credit cards and passport copies in them. http://travelstore.ricksteves.com/catalog/index.cfm?fuseaction=catalog&parent_id=124

The link you posted for the rick steves website is great. :) I will be reading this from page to page.

Unfortunately I've just looked at the pictures from the disaster of last October, shocking!!!!

Valbob, thank you so much for the links! I hadn't heard of the Pacsafe items before and I am going to order one of the bags. Rick Steves mentions pickpocketing so much that this will really put my mind at ease. And I hope to make my sister wear the money belt because my midsection doesn't need any more bulk! LOL!

We got ours on-line at http://www.luggagepros.com/mfgr_Pacsafe/index.shtml?showall=1
They are on e-bates and now there is a 5% rebate.

Hello another June 1st cruiser on board :yay:

It's our first ever cruise, we've been wanting this for such a long time and just had to wait for DCL to return to the med.

It will be myself, my mum and my dd who'll be 8 at time of sailing.

We're on deck 5, stateroom 5142, 2nd dining. Will probably look at doing a cheeky visit to DLP before or after.

Look forward to getting to know you all in the run up, I may not be that active for a while, have a couple of other trips coming up but just wanted to say we're in :woohoo:

Nice to see another boy on the cruise, seems like mostly girls so far. lol

My boys will at least have each other to play with I guess, but the more the merrier. :) My boys ages are at the time of the cruise, so 9 & 7 years.

Welcome to all those who have recently joined us. I think I have the rollcall uptodate. Have a good weekend. Val

I bet our boys will have lots of fun together! I know us parents will be having fun!

Val, Just wondering but are you a Valerie? Because I am but I go by Michelle my middle name :)

Yes, I am a Valerie but most people shorten it to Val - don't really like either so it doesn't matter to me. My middle name isn't any better, Jean spelled Jeannie(?), Two of my sisters got nice names, Catherine & Patricia.

I booked today, going with my husband and 12 yr old daughter, very excited!!

Did you look into Disney Air? We booked it for the EBTA and the first Med. It'll get us to Galveston and then home from Barcelona. It includes any hotels and transportation. It's going to be $1075 each, but since the gas prices seem to be on the rise I'm thinking that's a steal.

I love the name Valerie! So pretty.

Howdy, I'm Kirbo. We hope to join you for this cruise. It'll be me, my husband and our two girls. Our girls will be 8, turning nine the day after we debark. This will be our fourth cruise (the third will be the one right before it, the EBTA, but we've only completed two DCL cruises as of right now).

We just booked this cruise last week while on the Wonder. We still aren't sure if we're going to do this and the EBTA or if we're going to do the WBPC. DH is trying to get three weeks off, if he can we'll do the EBTA and this first Med cruise and there's a chance that more of my family will join us on this leg of the trip. If he can only get two weeks off we'll stick with the WBPC.

I'm very excited!
