Gee, thanks so much for the new thread, this is great!! We are growing more and more excited for our first ever stay at the beach club next June. I am still trying to decide what we can do to surprise my oldest daughter, Sarah for this trip. She is graduating from college and would love to do something really neat. Her major is marine biology so I thought maybe one of the programs at the living seas. I know she would love that so much. She already has done one of the programs at Seaworld and loved it!!! But that was several years ago. Also, it will be mu husbands and I 25th anniversary so we are planning a nice dinner out at one of the signature restaurants.
I do have a question...how far is it to the entrance at Epcot and where does it put you at? The information here is so valuable and I am so thankful for it. So I surely do appreciate the help. Have a great night!

Under a five minute walk. You enter Epcot at the International Gateway by UK.

Hello BC/YC fans! I can book a standard room or a studio for the same price. I'm torn as to which to do - has anyone stayed in both that can give me pros & cons? It will be for 2 nights (probably doing a split stay BC/Poly) - for 2 adults- it's a girls trip.

I realize they are the same size rooms, and that the studio will have 1 bed & sleeper sofa vs. the 2 beds in a standard room, and that the studio will have a very small kitchenette that the room doesn't. Any other things to consider?

How about location? I see from the map the studios are in the villas section that stick out the front of the resort - so not in the "main" building area near SAB, restaraunts, facing Boardwalk, etc. Is that correct? Will a studio feel far away from everything? How about the walk to Epcot - it looks like the villas section is actually closer to Epcot than the main area of BC, but do you have to walk through the lobby & back over to Epcot - or is there a shortcut our the side?

One more question - after looking at tons of pics here & on AllEars, the decors look different. The rooms seem to have a striped carpet & darker wood & white theme, the studios/villas seem to have a plaid/lighter beachy theme - is this correct that they are different - or did I just see some older pics?

In my opinion, that's a real easy decision. I'd take the BC room over the studio at the BCV anytime. You get coffee makers in both and refrigerators too. I like the location and the theming and size of the rooms much better at the BC versus the studio. However, if my choice was one bedroom villa at the BCV versus a regular room at the BC, I'd take the one bedroom villa definitely. Again ... this is just my personal opinion.

As far as walking distance to Epcot, it all depends where your room is at either the BCV or the BC. Some rooms at the BC are closer than any of the rooms at the BCV. But some of the BCV rooms are closer to some of the rooms at the BC. If you want the closest rooms to Epcot, you should book the BC and ask for a room near Epcot. Then you could use the exit by room 1501 which puts you real real close to Epcot. Probably cuts the walk down from 4 minutes to 2.5 minutes.

Hey, I go to the coast for thanksgiving and a whole new thread starts up (again!) I did try to peek on the cell phone while I was gone, but that's one tiny screen.
Heatherbabydoll, I'll pm you my cell no, so just call to arrange a noodle exchange time/place when you arrive 12/12. I assume I'm to retrieve Paul and kids from BC bell services as our flights get in around 5 pm 12/9.
I am now close enough to departure that my thoughts have turned to the 'joys' of winter travel via air cross country.

Hello all,

We want to stay BC CL Lagoon View. I would love to have a full balcony closer to the lounge. Where exactly is the Lounge on the 5th floor? Can we get both a full balcony and be close to the Lounge?

Also, does the 5th floor go all the way over to the quiet pool? It looks like it stops short of it.

We are staying at YC Club Level in Feb. Should we make any special room requests? Or are all club level rooms in a similar location?

Thanks!

Staying YC/BC, you get the shipping from the park and DTD stores to the hotel, no problem. You can also shop and ship to your home. They are very good at getting this done and prices are not out of line with normal shipping charges, just make sure you combine so you can save a few dollars. MM's experience of getting the "in-training" help is not unique, but there always seems to be someone behind the counter with them that knows the ropes. Be sure to let them know before they start ringing up the order that you will be shipping out of state. You will not be charged the 7% FL sales tax (you are suppose to pay the tax on the goods to your state when they get home, yeah, right). Of course if you are shipping to a FL location then you will be charged the 7% sales tax unless the clerk just "forgets" the rule. We've never had an issue with the shipping home. If you are buying snow-globes, toy guns, or other goods that might be considered a weapon (like a pirate's sword) and you are flying, shipping home is the only way to go!

Excellent point about the snowglobes! Since they contain water, snowglobes can't be placed in your carryon luggage, so you are required to either pack it, very carefully, in your checked luggage, or ship it to your home.

And as long as we are discussing packing/shipping, I will share (again) my most favorite souvenir tip. If you are purchasing a really large Lego set, to get it home, open the box and place the individual bags with pieces, along with the instructions, in a ziplock bag. If you want to keep the box, you can flatten it and place it at the bottom of your luggage.

Thanks for continuing the thread Dee.
Although we are back less than a month, we have booked our October 2012 BCV Food & Wine Fest visit. Please add us to the list, arriving October 6th and leaving October 13th. Already counting many, many days
Thanks

Here is our 'old' map. The lounge is where the orange ice arrow is pointing on the 5th floor. This is an old map and the resort has change since it was generated but should give you a general idea of the layout. Just request "Full Balcony, Close to the Lounge".

I have never stayed on quiet pool end.. Not all CL rooms are located on 5th floor. Some of the deluxes are on other levels but I believe all standard rooms are on 5th level.? Maybe some other BC veterans could answer.

Dee. I separated the months for 2012 on the trip list on page 4 list. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much. The map really does look like there are no 5th floor rooms past the lounge towards the quiet pool? Weird.

Thank you all for the replies about shipping. I think I will do most of the shopping at Mouse Gears or the Emporium. Surely, there will be a CM at one of them that can help with the shipping. Of course, right now with the Cyber Monday sale on, I might get a larger % off through the website than with the AP. But...there is just something about seeing the items in person, I still like to do that. Shipping charges will be fine and if I get the FL sales tax % that's OK too. We are in TN and our sales tax is 9.25% so anything less seems like a deal. :woohoo:

Waiting anxiously to see if I can move my name onto the BCV list for August. One more month to go til I can call DVC and try to switch! This is the greatest group of Dis'ers of all the threads :thumbsup2

Could you please include the Bird Family for August 18-27 @ the BC? This will be our first stay at the BC. We previously stayed at the ASM. Hoping that the proximity to EPCOT will please DH and the SAB will be a favorite of my two daughters age 6 and 8. I am a Disney fanatic and want my family to enjoy it as much as I do. Thanks for all of the great info on this thread!

Thank you

:welcome: to the DIS and to the Beach & Yacht Club forum.

This is a great place to hang out while you are waiting for your trip. We stayed at All Star Music in August 2008, followed by two stays at the Beach Club in 2009 and 2010. All I can say is WOW!!! Our favorite things about the Beach Club are the location (it is so easy to get everywhere) and the amazing pool.

You are officially added to the list!

I would love if you could PM the recipe. MM posted it ( thank you MM!) for me right before I left for Thanksgiving and I was not able to copy it.

Posting Marlton Mom's Bourbon Ball recipe for rusty4 and anyone else who missed it. After some friendly discussion about measurement and bra sizes (there we go again), I believe it was determined that a pulverizing a full box of 'Nilla Wafers is what you need to do:

Bourbon Balls

This easy recipe is a Southern favorite, made with bourbon, vanilla wafer crumbs, and cocoa, along with pecans and confectioners' sugar.
Ingredients:

* 2 1/2 cups or 1 box of Nabisco or other brand Vanilla wafers which will be pulverized in a food processor to crumb level
* 1 cup finely chopped pecans
* 1 cup confectioners' sugar
* 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
* 1/4 cup bourbon, sometimes I use a 1/3 of a cup if I'm making these for confirmed Bourbon lovers
* 2 "heaping" tablespoons light corn syrup (If your mixture is a little too dry and is not rolling into balls well add small amounts of syrup until it becomes sticky enough to roll. That's why I put "heaping")
* confectioners' sugar, sifted

Preparation:
Thoroughly combine 1 cup crushed vanilla wafer crumbs, (I use my mini food processor, keep in mind the vanilla wafers have to be pulverized to crumb level) chopped pecans (again the smaller size pieces the better, the pre crushed ones sold in the baking isle at the supermarket are fine),

Add 1 cup confectioners' sugar, and the cocoa. MIX IT UP!

In a separate bowl, blend the bourbon and corn syrup together.

Stir this bourbon mixture into the dry mixture; blend well. Cover and chill for at least a few hours. (I don't chill my mix, I just git to rollin!)

Sift about 1/2 to 1 cup of confectioners' sugar in a bowl. Shape small bits of the dough into balls and roll them in the confectioners'. Store in refrigerator in tightly covered containers. Make these a few days in advance for best flavor I think this is because some of the alcohol evaporates and makes for a slightly mellower flavor.

The flavor profile for these is a crunchy chocolate, Bourbon cookie ball with powdered sugar on the outside. Use less Bourbon (shy of a 1/4 cup) if you're not sure you like bourbon.

If desired. These can also be frozen for longer storage.

Bon Appetite!

So we visited the Yacht & Beach Club a few weeks back, and I decided to do a review as a side-by-side comparison of the two resorts. Feel free to check it out... I'm curious if the experts agree with my take:thumbsup2

Hey Deej- thanks for sharing your your Beach Club/Yacht Club review/comparison/throwdown...

Inquiries about the differences between the two resorts are probably the most frequent questions we get around here. We have a brief list of basic differences appearing on the front page, but I would love to add a link to your blog for folks who are looking for a more descriptive overview.

I agree with you- Beach Club is my favorite, mainly due to the lighter decor, the slightly closer distance to EPCOT and the appearance of superstar greeter Teena in the BC lobby.

But the "dark side", I mean Yacht Club, has staunch devotees as well.

One of the biggest differences, in my mind, is that almost all of the Yacht Club's rooms have full balconies, while around 50% of the rooms at the BC have full balconies and about 50% of the rooms have smaller ones.

You certainly can't go wrong with either.
