Are there any Pintrading Disdads.

We started trading on our last trip. We do have a few nice and some rare pins, but I like it because it promotes meeting new people. I tell my children that they have to find out something about the CM that they trade with. It's sort of a fine line because they are learning to talk to a stranger? While they are CMs I don't want them to do this in other places.

Love to pin trade got my kids hooked. They get so crazy with it that sometimes it takes forever to get to the rides. I have some nice Monorail pins I got from the last trip. I got the limited edition Tron-o-rail pin the morning it came out. Almost have the completed Figment set to.

I'm a pintrader, and have gotten my DW and DSs into it too. We enjoy meeting cast members and other guests and collecting whatever theme suits us at the time. We had a blast collecting the 2010 alphabet pins. We usually spend at least one evening going to several different resorts just to trade at the pin books.

This is something that I've always wanted to do, just never have. I really enjoy watching my kids to the trading rather than me. We've bought several "lots" of pins via ebay so that we can get them cheaper and the kids have had a great time going through the pins and picking out the ones that they would like to trade. One of the things we would like to do for this trip is to go to the designated trading places in the resorts and check out what goes on there. I will tell you that my kids TOTALLY love to trade; DS will trade his entire lanyard of pins in one location, then go to another location and trade the pins that he just traded for 5 minutes previous.

I'm a pin collector, not trader. I try to pick a few pins each trip for a new resort, ride, or favorite character (this trip). Once I have them, I don't want to trade them away.

Yes. Buy from ebay about $.50 each. Mostly for kids, but do keep a few extra pins in my pocket so if I see a nice one I will trade.

Pin buyer/collector here as well....Don't think I've ever traded. I just don't like giving up my "stuff" even if I get better "stuff", LOL! My wife thinks I'm crazy but she acknowledges the "pin bag" when we go to the parks. My goal is to completely cover it with pins (but pins that mean something or signify a certain trip, event, etc). However, she has recomended that we get a new backpack - a little larger and sturdier....and more room for pins, LOL!

My dd and I collect and trade. She has about 150 pins. I have been collecting since 1999 and have about 1200. My wife calls us crazy pin people. We have a lot of fun with it and have met some very nice people while trading.

I have the value resorts (where they all started) and POP on the back, but did not take a picture. I also have the DVC pin here.

This other hat is random pins, and each one has a story.

It might be a favorite ride that year, a new character photo-op (Duffy), etc.

Like I said, once I have them, I don't want to trade them away.

Last time we went they gave us free lanyards and 2 pins to start with. DW collected Mrs. Incredible. I got Statler, Waldorf and the Swedish Chef. DD is into princesses. DS is into transportation ones. Don't really trade, but next time we are down will try to find a few more.

I hear the E-bay pins aren't legit? How can I tell a legit pin from an E-bay knock off pin? When trading with CM's do I risk getting the E-bay knock offs?

Since I am not a trader, I will defer to others for advice. I have ordered lanyards through Disney Store when they were offered really cheap (it was probably end of the year or something like that). They have also had some lower cost sets, so if you don't want to go thru EBay, get you a discounted multi-pack set. All the boards say to buy cheap pins so your children can trade. My fear would be that my child got a really cool pin, and then later, wanted to trade it away. Would I jump in and say no? It is supposed to be there hobby. So, I have not promoted it and they have no expressed an interest.

This includes a long list out there of known scrapper sellers and known trusted sellers on eBay. The problem I ran into was that most of the sellers I was looking at who were currently selling were not on either list.

I decided that rather than take a chance on scrappers (not that I care for my kids collections but more that I don't want to keep them running into circulation in the parks) I would pay a bit more and order from one of the online storefronts believed to be selling actual pins. We paid a bit more ($1.50 a pin versus about $1 on eBay) and ordered from http://www.mousepinsonline.com. We bought a grab bag of 60 and got absolutely no repeats. There are some my kids will keep up front and some they are willing to trade away - which is probably how it should be when they are getting started.

We'll see how it goes when we take them with us in December.

No. But I'm not sure anything purchased from anyone off site of the world is 100% legit. They come highly recommended out in the pin trading sub-forums.

(Just realized my 100% legit comment can be misunderstood. All I meant by that was that the only way to be 100% sure is to buy from Disney. Having said that, I'm sure there are 100% legit third party folks. These folks are fairly up front on their website about how they get their pins and both DW and I were very comfortable buying from them).
