What is considered potty trained on the OC?

I'm curious, and no DD is not old enough to be left there yet so I'm not going to saddle the CM with half potty trained kid. I'm just curious on the policy.
Is it completely trained with wiping and washing both #1 and #2?

What are the CMs allowed to help with?

I just wonder because I'm not sure if a 3yo can really clean themselves properly after a #2 without any help.

Sorry if this is rather ucky topic... :flower3:

They must be completely trained, which means they are able to go to the bathroom alone (pull up/down pants by themselves, wipe, wash hands).

The CMs do not go into the washroom to avoid any possible perceived perception of impropriety, which is a smart move IMHO.

My son was a few weeks shy of 3 and he went into club....they did not help him except for when he would try to leave bathroom with pants still down. At that age yes they can wipe it just isn't going to be the greatest job so bring lots of extra undies...I buy cheap ones for this reason, so I can just toss them.

They are required to be "completely" potty trained, which means they know that they have to go and can handle everything in the bathroom--clothes, wiping, washing hands, etc. The CMs do "remind" them between activities that this would be a good time to go and make sure that they do the hand sanitizer when they come out.

When they are first trained, kids do tend to get involved in activities and "forget." Parents are welcome to go to the Club to check on their kids and escort the child to the bathroom. I'm not suggesting that you try to place an untrained child in the programming, but a check in from mom or dad every 90 minutes or so can make everyone's life more pleasant.:goodvibes

Think about the clothing you put them in when you take them to the programming--easier is better!

Would an older sibling in the club be able to help? My girls will be a couple weeks shy of 3 and almost 6. I'm not talking about having ODD wipe YDD or anything, but maybe help her with clothes and washing (she is also the type who loves to help her little sis).

This is exactly what we considered. Our kiddies are 4 and 3 and sometimes have difficulty buttoning their jeans. We purchased those pull-on cargo/canvas pants so that they didn't have to worry about buttoning their pants at all. Just a simple pull down/up and they're set.

Thanks everyone!
I guess I'm pleasantly surprised that a 3yo could clean themselves decently enough. Then again DD has sometime before she hits 3... a lot could happen by then.

And thanks for the suggestions on clothing and frequent visits, I will definitely do that on our trip when she's 3+.

My kids were never able to 'completely' clean themselves until after 4, and were PT'd before the age of 2... and even now sometimes they don't get all the way clean! Lol it's a learning process. I just make sure when they potty at home that they realize/know to wipe a few extra tims (w/o using an entire roll of TP!) if need-be. And I'm a clean freak, so this bothers me to NO end when they come home from daycare and aren't 'clean'. So much that I had to speak to the Director one time, but alas, they HAVE to learn to do it themselves...

Bring a thing of wipies along too. That way you can help out when you check on them, make sure she's absolutely clean, etc.

Just work with her lots before going, I'm sure she'll understand enough to do most everything by herself by the time you cruise! GL :)

Thanks TeamH5!
I'm a clean freak too... :lmao:
Glad to know that my instinct is about right. I'm relieved that we have a little bit of time to work on it.

Also just to let everyone know, they do have a pull up policy in the OC club too. Kids can wear a pull up and the parents are asked to come back every hour to check their kid.

REALLY? Wow... I learn something new everyday on this board.
That's interesting news... :thumbsup2

On the potty training subject... both my boys are trained (2 and 4) but still use a potty seat (that sits on the toilet). Has anyone brought a potty seat with them on the cruise and how much of a pain was it? Thanks!!

My DD started school (regular school not preschool) at 3 so she had to be 100% ready for that.

We always brought our potty seat with us not on a cruise but all our other trips. It was fine I put it in plastic grocery bag and brought Lysol wipes to clean it before packing.

Wanted to add that this is not an official policy. They do sometimes allow kids in pull ups (especially children that have special needs or are newly potty trained). If this is the case you WILL need to check in on your child every 45-6o minutes as the staff in the Club/Lab will not check for dirty/wet pull ups and will not change them.

Additionally they will not allow a 2 year old in pull ups to be moved up to the club.

Ok I have a tiny question. My DD will be days shy of her third birthday when we sail. She is fully potty trained, UNLESS she is doing something new and exciting. Then she is about 80% potty trained.

We were going to see if she could go into the OC but we were also going to throw a pair of pullups on for the first couple of days just to make sure that there were no messes.

Does anyone think she'll be allowed in? She's in full time preschool and no longer has any accidents there and doesn't has accidents at home so I'm hopeful.

I wondered about the same thing. I found this http://www.amazon.com/Mayfair-10E-0...UTF8&coliid=I1VQL1JOFSPU6C&colid=O6CV2DZS5E9V
on amazon and was thinking of purchasing it for our future vacations.
But I'm not sure if it'll fit the cruise "throne" YKWIM.

I think it depends on the CMs and also how full the club is. Some say they've been allowed in with frequent checks as long as the club isn't on full capacity.

Both my kids went before they were three.

With my son we went back and checked on him a few times. This was 2 years ago, they did not allow pull-ups and he had to pass a test where he went in and tried to use the bathroom and wash up.

He did fine, I was nervious.

We picked up a Disney themed travel potty seat. After our cruise I will make sure to mention if it will fit the cabin toilets on the ship.

So, along these lines, my question is do they make up the beds with a rubber sheet? My niece has an occastional bedwetting incident and I would hate to have it happen on the ship and not protect the mattress.

Has anyone requested one, or just brought their own?
