ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: Summer 2011 Edition!

We are booked for a TPV for our ten year anniversary. It was an amazing surprise that was almost pulled off by my DH. We were booked for CS and he went to the TA and upgraded us to the Polly, our favorite resort!! Now I am trying to pull one over on him and have gone to our TA (who must think we are nuts) and asked her to book CL TPV. Do you think this can be pulled off until we arrive or will it be obvious when we get our paperwork before the trip? I would love to be able to surprise him. We have not been in a few years so I do not remember how it was when we did CL 4 or 5 years ago. Thanks for your help!!!

On my welcome package it states Garden View. I would either hide the package(by saying you already packed it away) or just fib and say you haven't received it yet. That would be a nice suprise to walk into your club level room and see the castle out the sliding glass doors!

Wow...we are checking in the 28th. I sure hope that it is not sold out. Last time it was soooo peaceful at that time of year, that is why we booked the same week again. I guess thats what happens for letting the secret out, now we have all these resort converts . We need one of those Poly is so overrated threads to scare them away.:rotfl2:

Really what are we doing here, making our resort overcrowded! Shouldn't we get some compensation for it, a free Pina Colava, dole whip or lapu lapu:rotfl:?

I have a question on shipping to poly?, I am sending down a package tomrrow, the 9th for our Sept the 17th arrival day. How Is the Poly for receving packages any last minute suggestons??. thanks

Finally after almost a year of planning we leave
Btw,
Does anyone know if we still tell the bellhop that we are checking in for club level?

The bellhop will know already because the security guard notifies him when you pull up to gate, your name, CL & the kind of vehicle you drive. So when you pull towards valet -bell services, they will already know who to look for & if your room is available.:thumbsup2

Thanks everyone for the info on Neverland Club. I feel much better about leaving DD for an evening now!

We will look for the classic and the clubhouse minnie then! :goodvibes No pirate adventure for us - we talked about it at one point (and BBB) but we are already spending alot with CL and the extra party ticket so we decided against it. We've haven't used the Neverland Club - our first trip with kids DD was too young but I've heard great things about it here on the boards. I'm sure my kids would love it and would consider it this trip except that we're bringing Gma along and she's willing to stay with the kiddos a few evenings so DH and I can have some time together!

We try to do one "extra" each trip. Last year it was the Pirates n Pals Fireworks cruise and Hoop Dee Doo, this year it is MNSSHP and the pirate adventure. I would gladly trade both for CL!!! You are lucky to have an extra set of hands so that you can have a few evenings to yourself. This will be our first adults only night in Disney!

We will keep our eyes out for your little pirate and princess, I am sure we are bound to run into you at some point. Now I am off to do the happy dance, as we are now in the single digit numbers of our countdown, and to try to get some packing done. I am much more excited about the happy dance part!:cool1:

Has anyone stayed in the Honeymoon Suite? Would love information on it and pictures if anyone has any.
I know it's in the the Tonga longhouse and is one of the smaller rooms at the Poly (around 385 sq ft vs typical rooms are 409 sq feet). The suite has a king bed and Jacuzzi tub. It has a view of the Marina and the Seven Seas Lagoon.

We did pirate and pals 2 years ago - so fun! DH and I did Illuminations cruise for our 10th anniv. and loved it. CL is definitly the "extra" this year!! Enjoy your adults only time - we love Disney with the kids but its just as magical when its just us

Thanks everyone for the info on Neverland Club. I feel much better about leaving DD for an evening now!

DGD's enjoyed Neverland Club so much last year they ASKED their Mother if they could spend an evening there again on this trip. :cool1: DD had to CHANGE her schedule to find an evening for them to stay! :lmao: :tink:

So good to hear. I was having some serious guilt sticking my daughter in a babysitting program when we are supposed to be on a family vacation, but it's important to have grownup time too! DH and I have always wanted to spend time in EPCOT just checking out the pavilions, but somehow we always end up chasing characters for autographs across the world! Hearing such positive feedback will let me really enjoy our night, thank you!:goodvibes

Here's another BIG THUMBS UP :thumbsup2 for the Neverland Club! My kids also ASKED to go and really enjoyed it! DH and I like an evening at Epcot by ourselves. Don't feel guilty AT ALL. I like scheduling the 'kids night' after a few days. By then, both kids and parents are ready for their own time. We've also tried the Den's club at Wilderness Lodge and while the kids liked it, they both said they preferred the Neverland club.

This is my two DDs 19 years ago ....at Chef Mickeys when it was in the "Disney Village" :)

We will be at the Poly in 11 days...:yay:

You wouldn't recognize them now...they are all grown up .... :rotfl:

That is very sweet! :goodvibes I think you should definitely do a duplicate pic 19 yeats later :thumbsup2 It will be so cool to have it to compare!

Have a magical vacation :wizard:

The first posts in this thread are incredible guitarob! One of the most detailed resort threads on the DIS. Great job!

Makes me (almost) wish I had booked the Poly rather than the CR for our upcoming trip. :) We are going to 'Ohana our first night and I'm really looking forward to visiting the resort. I'll have to seriously consider booking the Poly on our next visit.

One quick question - when was the last time the Poly rooms were refurbed or are they scheduled?

Thanks,

Martin

The last time the rooms at the Polynesian went through a total refurb was in 2006. The interiors of the rooms were totally redone, new bed linens, comforters, lighting, carpet, and flat screen televisions and new furniture were added.

Can't wait...just 19 days :goodvibes

We'll be there in just 7 days. Extended weather does not look promising but will make sure to enjoy the vacation regardless. Folks at work think I am insane going without young children and ask me everyday how many days left. Can't believe how fast the summer went. When you begin in the hundreds it seems so very far away. Thank you to everyone on this thread for being there and reminding me that I am not the only one out there........

I try not to worry about the weather until we are actually there - we've had several trips where the forecast prior showed 7-10 days of scattered thunderstorms including our trip last year. A few times we experienced the very short Florida afternoon shower (1 or 2 days tops), but otherwise beautiful blue skies and NO rain the entire trip!! Grab some ponchos and play in the rain if you have to - it's Disney afterall and we're allowed to be kids :goodvibes See you there!

We shipped one box to the Poly which arrived a two days in advance of our arrival (special formula for DS 17 months). They handled the package with care and a CM had it ready for us upon our arrival. I would advise making sure that you pack it well and don't send anything that you would ruin your vacation if it was lost or damaged. I would recommend having the package arrive one or two days prior to your departure and make sure that you can verify with the delivery service (e.g. UPS, Fedex, etc.) that the package has been received at the Poly so you still have options to pack replacements if needed.
