A Stringbean, a Wingnut, and a plan! (A January '12 PTR) TRIP REPORT STARTED!! 1/16!!

I don't remember what your other ADRs are and I'm too lazy to go back and look. Yep, I'm that DISer. :rotfl2:

Have you been to Flying Fish? We really loved our meal there last September. It was really yummy, the food was excellent.

My other suggestion is Brown Derby because I wouldn't be me if I didn't. It is my favorite place to eat at Disney. :thumbsup2

Do you have another time you are thinking of goign to Beaches & Cream? If not, maybe you can go there for lunch and Sci-Fi for dinner? I just know you were looking forward to your malt.

I don't feel like I've eaten at enough places to recommend anything, but I did want to say that I like the crazy ADR switching, so you can be at the helm anytime!!:lmao:

LOL...I change ADR's all the time too! In fact, I hardly even post my changes on my PTR anymore, because it would be a once a week thing! (Although, I do need some help with one issue I'm having, which I'm going to post about later!)

Umm...well, you know I love Le Cellier, so of course I'm going to recommend that!

And I've never been to Les Chef's, but it's somewhere I've always wanted and I'm finally going to get to in 26 days, so I will let you know if I think it's good enough for a first day dinner when I get back!

What about Via Napoli? I keep hearing great things about it! :thumbsup2

I know you are going to think this is crazy - but when I used to take my boys our favorite first night was the San Angel Inn. I know, I know....but my kids loved it there and I was a sucker for fake ambiance (despite practically touching elbows with my neighbor). Hey - and its right next to the best margaritas ever! ;)

On a more serious note - the Flying Fish is very good. I loved my meal there. I'm not crazy about the decor. It seems so 80's, but I did love the service. Food is yummy!

How about BlueZoo? Just a thought.

Hmmmmm...... I do like Via Napoli. It was good and its nice and upscale casual.

Le Chefs France is my other suggestion.

"Stringbean at the helm!" Love that one. :rotfl2:

What we've done the last couple of trips, and it appears to be becoming a tradition, is to go to DTD the first day (late afternoon/early evening), do a little souvenir buying, hit Earl of Sandwich and then take a boat to POR to catch the Yeehaa Bob show. His show definitely gets you in the Disney mood and is first-dayish! Wait, what day are you arriving? He's not there every day.

Hahahaha I love any excuse to use this guy :sail:

That's a fun idea! We are arriving on a Sunday - I'm not sure what Bob's schedule is. Also, I usually tend to leave DTD and World of Disney for later on in the trip, after we've scoped out the merchandise a bit. But there's no reason why we can't take a preliminary look there! And that means we'd go to Goofy's early on in the trip too! :thumbsup2

Hahahaha that's okay! We haven't tried Flying Fish yet, that's a contender, but I'm really not a fan of seafood, and Wingnut is afraid I won't find enough on the menu I'd like (I saw they do have a steak there, so I'd be set though!)

I also have never been to the Brown Derby! I know you love it there, your reviews always make me consider going.

Do you have another time you are thinking of goign to Beaches & Cream? If not, maybe you can go there for lunch and Sci-Fi for dinner? I just know you were looking forward to your malt.

I'm thinking since we'll be now staying in that area, Beaches and Cream is a much more accessible lunch on any day, really! I had thought about doing that, but Sci-Fi doesn't have the burger listed on its menu for dinner, and both Wingnut and I still have the classic memories of Sci-Fi as a burger place.

(I'm finicky and complicated, I know! :rotfl:)

I don't feel like I've eaten at enough places to recommend anything, but I did want to say that I like the crazy ADR switching, so you can be at the helm anytime!!:lmao:

Hahahaha aww thanks! I doubt this will be the last ADR switch I'll make...

Hahaha you should post your changes! That way I won't feel like the only one!!

Spoiler alert: we do have ADR's at Le Cellier and Via Napoli! :yay:

I'm very interested to hear your take on Les Chef's. That's always been one we've been intrigued by, but the reviews keep me on the fence about going there.

I know you are going to think this is crazy - but when I used to take my boys our favorite first night was the San Angel Inn. I know, I know....but my kids loved it there and I was a sucker for fake ambiance (despite practically touching elbows with my neighbor). Hey - and its right next to the best margaritas ever! ;)

Le Chefs France is my other suggestion.

I don't think that's crazy at all! We did a lunch at SAI in December '09, and we had really enjoyed it. I do love the fake ambiance too , but I heard that they changed the table layout, and it's more similar to Biergarten now? I'm okay with practically touching elbows with a table neighbor, but not as much about actually sharing the table with them! (Does that make me sound terribly anti-social? I'm not...but I'm just so not into the communal dining thing.)

Flying Fish is still an option, I'm going to take a look at the menu and see how the options are for seafood-dislikers like me. And it would be wonderfully convenient to get back to the resort afterwards!

While I'm not strictly trying to pick restaurants on the DDP, I'd prefer to stick to those - somehow last time we ended up with 5 extra TS credits :sad2:, and I'm not sure how it happened, but I want to make sure they're all accounted for this time!

I know you're also a fan of Les Chefs...that could be a good option too.

I like the idea of swtiching Sci Fi to dinner...

That would be the easy and logical answer, wouldn't it? But they don't seem to offer the burger for dinner, and that was the item both Wingnut and I were really going for. Well, the ambiance and awesome movie clips first, but it just feels strange to be there and not have a burger!

Thank you everyone for your awesome suggestions!!! :grouphug:

At this point...I am no closer to a decision. There are too many options!!

Honestly, if Sci-Fi offered the burger for dinner, all of our problems would be solved. (Yes, every single one of them ;)) But they don't, which really just strikes me as bizarre. Isn't this a quintessential burger place? Didn't they use to have a bunch of burgers on the menu? Why can't I find key lime juice in my local supermarket?

(Sorry, got a bit off topic here. But a certain Wingnut's birthday is coming up soon, and key lime pie is his favorite!)

Alas, alright, they don't. So it's Sci-Fi for lunch we go, because we're apparently more menu-stubborn than I had thought.

Also - why doesn't Sci-Fi give you popcorn in lieu of bread to munch on while perusing the menu? popcorn:: Seems like it would make sense...

Beaches and Cream is still a top contender, but it's starting to waver after seeing all of the other wonderful suggestions!

So for the moment, I'll tell you more about the ADR's we HAVE decided on!

Day...um...something.

Six! Day six!

OH NO THIS IS OUR LAST FULL DAY AT DISNEY!!!

I'm sad already :sad1:

Okay. I'm okay.

Breakfast, ironically, is going to be at the same place as our last full day at Disney last time (that seemed like an overly confusing sentence), Boma!

Boma does an awesome breakfast, with traditional offerings interspersed with good stuff like goat cheese scrambled eggs and fruit swimming in a combination of heavy cream and sweetened condensed milk.

(No, I still have not gotten over the awesome wonder of that dish.)

Lunch that day - no plans. Snacks? Cupcakes? Grey Goose squishees?

Grey Goose squishees. ::yes::

Dinner that day is at yet another new restaurant to us: Via Napoli!

As you could probably tell from our previous map of projected hurricane Irene, we are from an area that knows its pizza. We're very excited to try the new pizzeria at Epcot - although I'm pretty positive that Wingnut is going to order the spaghetti and meatballs here - he loves to see how different restaurants make their meatballs.

I actually haven't dined in Italy: The Epcot Edition since Alfredo de Roma. :-)cloud9:) Does anyone else remember that restaurant of wonderfulness? Oh how I loved their alfredo sauce.

But back to Via Napoli. Well, to. I've never been to go back.

The prosciutto and melon pizza is intriguing to me, bizarre to Wingnut. Anyone had it? Or any other VN suggestions?

Mmmm I love Boma for breakfast! :lovestruc

LOL, Grey Goose squishies...never thought of calling them that! Brandon and I speak in Simpsons quotes, so I'm surprised that never came up! :rotfl:

I can't wait to try Via Napoli! :cool1: I think it's going to become a new favorite!

You have some great ADR's planned! :thumbsup2

okay, so as if I am not already behind enough as it is with my long list of TRs, I am subbing in to your PTR. I have not read thorugh it all yet, though....I will catch up at some point before you leave though!

I did want to tell you that if you are still on the fence about Flying Fish, we went there again 2 weeks ago and both thoroughly enjoyed our meal. But then again, we are both seafood lovers. However, both times we have gone, we have heard great things about their steak, so maybe you will be just as happy as we were. And lord knows my little munchkin got another one of those awesome kids desserts there.

Okay - will try to catch up and stay connected.....

Mmmmm...pizza. First MeMom with the cupcakes and now the pizza, this is a very hungry morning. :lmao:

Oh and goat cheese scrambled eggs? They sound freaking delicious! Have I mentioned that I'm hungry? :rolleyes1

But they don't seem to offer the burger for dinner, and that was the item both Wingnut and I were really going for. Well, the ambiance and awesome movie clips first, but it just feels strange to be there and not have a burger!

that is pretty odd :confused3

Also - why doesn't Sci-Fi give you popcorn in lieu of bread to munch on while perusing the menu? popcorn:: Seems like it would make sense...

now that would be fun...seems like you need to fill out a suggestion card ;)

these look so cute...wonder if they make these in a GF option...Naomi-Ruth would love them :thumbsup2

Grey Goose squishees. ::yes::

::yes:: I agree

we are from an area that knows its pizza.

actually you need to move a few states into the midwest ;)

sounds like a delish day :thumbsup2

I really need to get around to doing a Boma breakfast. I know I would LOVE it!

I was editing my Via Napoli pictures the other day and all I can say is those waiters ARE really hot! That alone is worth the trip. The sangria is also very good. Not sure what kind of pizza I had - still need to look at the menu, but it was yummy!

Unfortunately, he doesn't perform at Port Orleans on Sundays. Here's a link to his website. Click on "Update and schedule" in the upper left to see his schedule...but it only shows a month-out. It looks like he's usually at POR Thursdays-Saturdays.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE goat cheese scrambled eggs:worship:. Brandon makes them for me just about every weekend using cheese from the local creamery. I will have to give those a try and see how they compare! (Of course, if they're better than Brandon's, I'll have to lie to him.:thumbsup2)

I read this post last night and just wasn't ready to comment yet. Why? Because I was trying to get on board with the melon/prosciutto pizza. I spent a good chunk of time imagining myself enjoying it and trying to envision what it would taste like, and I've come to the conclusion that....no. I just can't give you a big thumbs up on that one. Sounds interesting, yes, but not interesting enough to try! But girl, you go for it and let us know:rotfl2:!

I will now have to start calling them GG Squishees instead of slushies. Like Nermel9, I don't know how I haven't thought of that already!!

Was Perry there?
He was there in 2D form, ie cardboard :lmao:

Wait just a minute!! What do you mean that there are no burgers at Sci-Fi?! There used to be!

If you hit Beaches 'n Cream during the non meal hours (between 2pm-5pm) then you can get in for sure. All the chairs do have backs. You can sit at the counter and watch them make the goody deliciousness :goodvibes Ooh and you can ask for Melanie, she is AMAZING!! :thumbsup2

Boma's great for dinner, but I think it's even better for breakfast!

Hahahaha that's what I've always called them - they just call for a Simpsons reference, I think! We exist in a constant stream of pop-culture references here. The other Simpsons reference Wingnut and I do repeatedly throughout our trip is sing the "monoraaaail" song whenever we're anywhere close to it. Oh, and in DTD, "stay off the West Side, that's Cookie's territory!" :rotfl:

I'm SO excited for Via Napoli, I think it's going to be a new favorite too! Thanks!! :goodvibes

Glad to have you here!!! :goodvibes Hahaha don't worry, you haven't missed much! We won't be actually going until January, which seems like forever away right now!

We are still on the fence about Flying Fish...I think I'd be able to have a bunch of choices there, but Wingnut is afraid I won't. We'll see. Plenty of time to deliberate this further! (Where else do people agonize about their meals 6 months in advance?).

THE KIDS' DESSERTS AT FLYING FISH ARE SO AWESOME!!! Seriously, they are adorable. I'd love to order one, but I think that's pushing it...I have ordered the Tinkerbell light-up straw attachment and fairies cup though. Hahaha.

Mmmmm...pizza. First MeMom with the cupcakes and now the pizza, this is a very hungry morning. :lmao:

Oh and goat cheese scrambled eggs? They sound freaking delicious! Have I mentioned that I'm hungry? :rolleyes1

Um, I purposely only read the Dis in the mornings while eating breakfast, people post too many tempting food pictures!!! :rotfl:

You SO have to try the goat cheese scrambled eggs. They're really really REALLY good!

that is pretty odd :confused3

actually you need to move a few states into the midwest ;)

sounds like a delish day :thumbsup2

Hahaha I know...it is silly of us to only be going to Sci-Fi with the guarantee of a burger, but I figure we're allowed to have one bizarre idiosyncrasy with an ADR!

Hey, hey, hey...NY-style thin crust is the best!

I agree! That is the reason we've only done Sci-Fi for lunch... I've *heard* that you can order the burger at dinner, but there's no guarantees they'll make it for you...

Also - why doesn't Sci-Fi give you popcorn in lieu of bread to munch on while perusing the menu? popcorn:: Seems like it would make sense...

That does make sense, but I'm allergic to popcorn so that's never even occurred to me!

Boma does an awesome breakfast, with traditional offerings interspersed with good stuff like goat cheese scrambled eggs and fruit swimming in a combination of heavy cream and sweetened condensed milk.

I love goat cheese and I love scrambled eggs so that sounds heavenly...
