DP and I have decided to legally marry in New York. While we know we take a risk by waiting we have decided it is what we really want to do. So on May 26th, 2012 16 years and 1 day after we had our union ceremony we are going to get married.

We met with the woman at the banquet facility today fully expecting for that date not to be available but it was. They have a little grassy area with a gazebo where we will have a small ceremony. Afterwards we'll move it inside for the party. DP is doing the planning. I just smile, nod, hand over the credit card and say okay. This stuff pretty much gives me agita. There are a lot of emotions for a lot of reasons.

Thank you to all of you for a great place to come and share our news.

Congratulations!
I can't wait to start our planning ourselves. Please keep us informed and take pictures.

Just happened to be perusing the boards when I saw your thread!

I am so happy for you two!! You guys have a beautiful family so this is wonderful to hear.

Will do. Since we already had a wedding years ago we are going to ask people to skip gifts and to bring their digital cameras, take lots of pictures and send them to us.

Thank you so much Tags! I really appreciate it. We are very happy and as we are at much different place in our lives compared to 15 years ago, we'll have the fancy party this time around. I joke about "handing over the credit card" as DP is really the one who loves to plan a party and make everything pretty and I'm more than happy in my role.

Now we just have to find out if our minister friend is available for that date.

Great news and I hope you'll share in the planning and event news....

Pics...don't forget the pictures!

Congrats to you both! We celebrated 20 years and a "domestic partnership" last year with a blowout party but are so happy for your right to finally marry!

And the planning begins. I made the deposit with the banquet facility today. Our friend that we had hoped would do the ceremony, she did our first one, will be out of town. So we are going to go down to city hall on Friday May 25th and get married then. Honestly, that's what I've wanted to do all along anyway, I don't know why but I want to get married at City Hall.

A friend of ours makes cakes on the side so she is going to make a 3 tiered squared cake with an Irish theme. We hope to have Irish Music play during dinner. DP is German but I am Irish and my family is over the top in their Irishness and DD Irish Dances and this was DP's idea (she's awesome).

We do need to start looking for a DJ. Our Union ceremony was at a park and while we had music we didn't have dancing. DP loves to dance but has never felt comfortable dancing with me at family weddings. Since this is our wedding she wants to dance. And I even think she'll let me dance with her.:scared1:

The DJ is booked, that was too easy! Of course we aren't going around different places trying food and all that. The place we're having the reception is near our house, we've been there for a wedding reception and DP has coordinated the annual PTA dinner there for the last 3 years and it was available on our date. The cake is being made by a friend who makes cakes on the side and the DJ is the cousin of a neighbor of ours who does gigs around town and we felt his price was reasonable.

Awesome!!

Now we're working on the song list. I thought it would be easy but it's not. Our song we'll dance together to is "Beautiful in Your Eyes" Joshua Kadison. We are going to dance to "Over the Rainbow/It's a Wonderful World" Israel Kama...
and a couple of other slow songs. Now we're struggling with upbeat songs. We have Walkin' on Sunshine, the Dance Mix of What's Up by 4 Non Blondes (from back in the day when DP and I danced in clubs:lmao:)

If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to post them we're open to ideas. Though we looked at some of the "top 200" lists and we see songs like U2's "I still haven't found what I'm looking for and "If that's your boyfriend, he wasn't last night" While I love U2 as much as the next guy, not for my wedding.

Congratulations! And just my opinion here, but no wedding is complete without the chicken dance and the electric slide, but thats just my two cents, lol.:dance3:
