Aulani Annual Dues "Postponed"

Aulani was our first add on and the first we were going to use the monthly payment option for the dues. So I called Member Accounting today to make sure we had set things up right for the payments to be sucked out of our bank.

Turns out, they couldn't give me an amount or date when payments would start. I looked on my DVC member page and the amount is there as is the option to pay it, but the CM told me the dues for Aulani have been "postponed" until the issues there have been resolved.

I asked what that meant. She said the AMOUNT might have to be changed, which sort of surprised me given all the coverage of the issue and the clear implication that current owners would not see their dues increased immediately beyond what we contracted for.

Then she said once the postponement was lifted, they would just hit our account for the amount due, which w/b several months of dues hitting all at once.

So I emailed Member Services asking if the amount of dues was subject to change immediately, and whether, when they start collecting dues, they would at least notify us before they suck it all out of our bank account so we might have some advance notice. Maybe we could use a credit card BEFORE they hit our account, to keep us from bouncing checks.

Just thought I'd share.

That seems like a shoddy way to handle this. Hopefully they will get their act together and communicate better on this issue to members.

Just don't touch the amount in your account that you'd expect to be pulled - let it build & pretend it's not there. Do you have an overdraft account linked in? Maybe toss the "monthly payments" in there.

I doubt they'll raise your payments... legal issues arising from that would be a headache and a half & there's a very good chance a judge would stand by the owners.

I hope they figure this all out quickly.

Due to the fiasco with the maintenance fee amount, Disney may not be able to collect MF amounts from any Aulani owner at this time. It may have to wait for the State of Hawaii to sign off on the revised fee rate before any MFs can be collected.

I don't think that the OP and the other original Aulani owners should worry that DVD will charge them more than $4.31 a point once automatic debits start up. Thus, if an Aulani owner's online account shows a specific MF amount, then that is probably the amount that will be billed once automatic debits commence.

However, it would not surprise if DVD has to notify all Aulani owners of the revised fee schedule and give them the opportunity to back out of the deal before any MFs can be collected.

Which group at MS did you contact, there are 5 that I know of and they all have different functions?

DVC Member Satisfaction would be your best bet.

Bill, I spoke with Member Accounting, since they do the collecting of the fees. They were able to give me the exact date and amount I will start paying for my VGC add on, but when it came to Aulani, just what I posted above.

I've emailed via the member web site and will see what response I get from there.

Member Accounting will work on your problem but they won't notify DVC Management that there is a issue that may need to be addressed. They are worker bees who just do member accounting. The Satisfaction Team on the other hand files reports to the Executive Management Staff for their review. I speak to them regularly and there common response is that no one tells them about problems and if they don't know about it, it won't get fixed.
