Is Hilton Head THAT popular 11 months ahead?

I am trying to book 3 nights at Hilton Head after our July 2012 cruise using cash and not points (I used up our points for the cruise). I started calling at the 11 month window and the DVC rep said that nothing is available. She suggested that I call the Disney reservation line since DVC has a limited amount of cash rooms available for members. When I checked with Disney, they said that nothing available was coming up. I know that Hilton Head is small (in terms of number of rooms), but can it be that popular in late July?

Yes it is. These days you pretty much have to be an owner to get a summer reservation.

What about Vero Beach? My wife wants to wind down after the cruise somewhere other than WDW (though we will go there for a few days before heading back home to make our two daughters happy (and me happy for justifying the purchase of another TIW card)).

Did you try to book a 1 bdrm or 2 bdrm, there are many more 2 bdrm's at HH.

I should have mentioned this. Studios and 1BR's are a lot harder to get and 2 BR's.

I asked for anything (other than a studio), and nothing was coming up. She did say that I should try again tomorrow and Wednesday because the 11 month window may have gotten screwed up by the fact that 2012 is a leap year.

The guy at Disney Reservations was also perplexed that an entire resort was booked up 11 months ahead of time (through both points and cash). He also thinks that the leap year issue might have affected availability.

Maybe you could find someone who owns HHI or VB and rent a reservation (maybe a room on points might be available).

There probably is little cash availability at 11 months because the resort is soldout and members have not started to trade out yet. As members tradeout, rooms can move over to cash. There should be some points availability.

Other than weekends, there is usually limited availability for cash at 11 months during the summer at HH. We have usually been able to get cash reservations for Fri/Sat nights at 11 months - even for GVs, but weekdays are another issue due to the small size of the resort and the popularity during the summer.

Well, this was for a weekend (get in on Saturday and leave on Tuesday). Will keep on trying until DVC gets annoyed with me.

I think Vero is a little easier to get in the summer, and it's just wonderful. The beach is great, the resort is relaxing, and it's an all-around great place to unwind. It's also a lot closer to WDW.

I just called DVC and guess what... rooms are now available for the time period that I was looking. So, I reserved a 2 bedroom for the weekend we come back from our cruise. It must have been the quirk in the calendar next year (2012 being a leap year), that said that rooms were not available until now.

Really looking forward to our stay (though brief) at Hilton Head!
