A Science Moment for the Gatorland Segment

I really enjoyed the Gatorland segment even though the odds of me ever going are slim to none. It was just plain funny but let's talk about gravity and zigzaging for a moment.

But for external conditions, namely atmospheric drag, objects of different weight fall at the same speed. (Forget extremely massive objects such as stars.) Apollo 15 Astronaut Dave Scott dropped a hammer and a feather on the moon and both fell at the same rate. The video is on youtube.

According to mythbusters, Zigzaging isn't the best way to get away from a crocodile because they rarely attack from land. They prefer to ambush their targets from the water with a lightning-fast lunge. You just have to avoid the first lunge which is very easy for me since I have no desire to go near a croc.

Science?

Science means school. :teacher:

School means summer vacation is over. :scared1:

NOT YET, JACK! Not yet!!!!

Of course you dont zigzag with a crocodile....everyone knows that.

In all seriousness...I was talking out my butt.

I dont go anywhere near places where an alligator (or crocodile) might be lurking.

I do visit the Croc outlet occasionally and you can outrun a Croc sales person by zigzagging.:thumbsup2

Shoot, Kevin, I was going to invite you to go with us to Gatorland in August.
:cool1:

Getting video footage of Patrick on the zipline is going to be the highlight of my life.

Gravity is a constant, granted, but each object of different weight will achieve a different terminal velocity when falling in an atmosphere environment.

Please also remember, that the heavier the object the more momentum it will obtain and will have greater force when reaching bottom. A ping pong ball versus a golf ball rolling down an inclined plane (ramp) will have a different impact. :teacher:

Ohhh who cares. I would not go on that thing even if you pay me. I never found gators to be fun, cuddly creatures in the first place.

Does this mean I wasn't the only one yelling 'TERMINAL VELOCITY!!!!' at my iPod? :confused3 I scared the cats.

Did you really expect me to get into terminal velocity and drag coefficients when Teresa thought she had 'different gravity' than other people?
