Weirdest Disney Misconceptions?

What I mean by this are: things people get wrong about Disney movies, ect. And I don't mean the really common ones like, "My favorite Disney movie ever is 'Anastasia'!" or "I went to Disneyland and loved Epcot!" I mean ones that are *really* weird.

As an example, and still one of the funniest things I've ever heard as an animation geek. A while ago, I was listening to the radio and a young woman sent in a request. The request went like this:

"I'd like to dedicate a song to my boyfriend who is away on a business trip. Honey, let's look at the moon and think of each-other tonight! We'll be like Belle and Beast in that scene in our favorite Disney movie where they look at the moon and sing a sad song to each-other!"

As I'm starting to wonder what strange alternate version of "Beauty and the Beast" this couple watched, the DJ starts playing the requested song.

Apparently, there is an alternate cut of "Beauty and the Beast" where Belle and Beast look at the moon and sing a song to each-other. And that song is, naturally, "Somewhere, Out There".

Yeah it cracks me up that what ever movie it is... if it is animated it's DISNEY! I get tired of correcting people

One time I was talking to this girl at our local High school and she was playing that game "2 truth's and a lie", when you have to tell a group of people 2 things that happened in your life and one that was made up, then the group of people have to guess which one was the lie.

Anyways she say's

I was on the set of Glee.
I toured Europe with my band.
I worked as a princess at Disney Castle.

I thought, what is Disney Castle?? Hahaha it ended up being the lie seeing that she barely knew anything about the DisneyWorld or Disneyland.

Also one time my friend was telling me about how she and her family met Mickey Mouse. She start's talking about how they must have at least 5 mickey's meeting around the park at one time. Then she start's joking about if one of the Mickey's ran into one of the other ones. I tried explaining to her that there is only ONE Mickey in the park but she pretty much just ignored me lol. She also know's for a fact that Fast passes cost money and when I tried telling her that they don't she goes "That's ridiculous, why would they be free? then everyone would just get them." She still does not believe me and to this day thinks that Fast passes cost money.

The only one I can think of right now is how some people say Ariel only wanted to go on land for Eric.
I'm thinking... Hmm... then Part Of Your World really was cut from the movie, eh? Or that Ariel fell in love with Eric for looks. People forget that when she was watching him on the boat, she saw him playing with his dog, playing his flute (music love!) and being unimpressed with a statue of himself (goes to personality) and that he dreams of finding his true love, that love-at-first-sight thing. All of that was the final push for Ariel to live out her dreams, to which Ursula manipulated her into it (after her father destroyed her treasures).

Can you tell I've thought too much about this?

Also, the confusion between Disneyland and California Adventure. I've heard so many people call the entire park Disneyland, while the actual Disneyland is 'Magic Kingdom' and DCA is DCA.

What really gets to me is that most people don't realize just how old some of the Disney movies are.

A guy friend of mine once asked me, "Did Snow White come out in the '70s or the '80s?" He's lucky he asked me that over the phone otherwise I would have smacked him in the head for that one! You should have heard him when I told him how far off he was.

I can't tell you how many times I've ran into this problem. It seems like people think that the first time they saw the movie is the orignial release.

Another guy friend of mine (he was born in the early '80s) told me, "I remember when 101 Dalmatians first came out." Really? Where you reincartated?

Then when I was in high school (this was around '99 or 2000) I was talking to a friend of mine. She told me that there was a girl in one of her classes named Fantasia. I made a comment wondering if she was named after the movie. My friend replied, "I think she was born before the movie came out." There's a 60-year-old in your class? How many times was she held back?

I hate it when a Cartoon by a different company like DreamWorks is mislabeled as a Disney production.

One example is when I was 4th grade and some high school kids played a game of "Name that Disney Movie" where they showed a picture of a scene from a Disney film and let us name it and one of them was Shrek and yes I called them out about it.

On the upside I was the only one who recognized the Mighty Ducks slide.

I'm surprised by how prevalent this one is too. I wonder if it's starting to phase out now that Disney doesn't seem to be re-releasing older movies to theaters anymore? (They did this up until the late 80's or so.)

I think that's only part of the problem. (Although, I miss seeing the older movies in the theaters.)

About a year ago my parents needed to update their will. They decided to go with a trust instead of a will. Well, this guy from the company we were using came to our house. We sat in the family room to work on the paper work. Our family room has quite a bit of Disney stuff in it. Of course the guy noticed it. Everyone does. First he started commenting on it. Then he started complaining about Disney! First he said in the most disgusted voice, "Do you know that Disney makes a billion dollars a year off Winnie-the-Pooh?" I was so shocked by his disgusted tone that I was speechless! So what? What's wrong with that? Where would Pooh and all his pals be if Disney hadn't made him into a movie? Then he started complainig about how he hates how Disney keeps re-releasing the "same movies" on DVD "just to make money". Right away, I could tell that he had no idea just how old some of these movies are. And try naming one movie company that doesn't do the exact same thing! I wanted to scream at him! But I knew my dad would get mad at me if I did that, so I held my tounge. By the time he left I just about had smoke coming out of my ears. I found him VERY rude and EXTREAMLY unprofessional! You don't go into someone else's house and start bad mouthing what they like! Esp when you are there to do a job.

Ok, I'm getting a little off track here. My point is that the older Disney movies not being shown in theaters anymore isn't going to solve to problem. This guy clearly thinks Disney should release a movie one time and that's it. I don't think he could tell the difference between Snow White and The Lion King!

When I finished your post, I automatically thought of "Our Lady Peace".

There's a load of bizarre in Disney stuff, but I can't help but to appreciate it. It's reality. Can't compensate for a substitute in something that isn't dished without imagination.

She was crestfallen when I showed her the website where the characters and scenes were just copied and pasted. The thing that really threw her was a side by side of Kimba's father (Cesear) and Simba's father on the rock looking out. It was a complete copy.

Since then, she has barely talked to me.

If you google Kimba, you can find a website that offers the TV series DVD. Then, your jaw will drop when you see the very same things that you saw in Lion King. Then, you can show it to your friends and say "Look, this TV series was in 1966. Disney copied it 25 years later and pretended it was their original work."

I googled it and saw the side by side pic comparisons. It's nuts. I showed it to DH too since that is his favorite movie. Ah well, I'll keep loving lion king, just like I keep loving Harry Potter
