Our first full day started bright and early. It was a gorgeous morning. The sun was shining, the birds were singing
and we were in Disney World!!!!
It was morning extra magic hours at the Animal Kingdom, so we diced to take advantage of that. The Animal Kingdom is my fiancés favourite park, and the park that I had explored the least up until this trip, so I was pretty excited to go. Armed with water, and sunscreen, we left our room in search of breakfast. As soon as I walked out of the room I knew it was going to be a hot day.
Digression! Let me start off by saying that before we left, our weather at home had been horrible. Unseasonably cool and rainy
so much so that we hadnt seen any amount of sun for the previous 50 days. Im not kidding. So, to be in the Florida sun was amazing...and as nice as the heat was, it was hot. We had been used to temperatures around the equivalent of 55-60, and now it was probably 80-85 at 6:30 am. It was a bit of a shock to say the least.
Anyway, we soon found out that the Peppermarket wasnt open, so we had a quick breakfast at Café Rix. It was a breakfast croissant with egg, cheese, and bacon. It didnt exactly look appetizing as it was pre-made and sitting under a heat lamp, but it was surprisingly good. I didnt take any pictures of the quick service meals because theyre quick service (also because I forgot). I did manage to get this though...
We made our way to the bus stop at El Centro after our breakfast. We were waiting no more than 5 minutes when a bus pulled up
and it was for the Animal Kingdom! Apparently we had bus foo (a term I would use for most of the trip). It was a really beautiful morning, and as we were waiting for the bus my fiance was able to take a few really neat shots...like this one:
When we got to the park the lines were already forming, and it was probably about 7:30-7:40 at this point. It was the first time Id ever been to a park before opening (and only time as it turned out). The cast members at the turnstiles were very entertaining. Im glad I got to be there early. Im pretty sure they let us in early, because we werent waiting very long before we could go in. It was awesome to see the pathways with next to no one on them. Our plan of action was to head back to Africa to go on a two-week safari right off the bat, and after a few quick pictures along the way, we were waiting for our car to come pick us up in the village of Harambi. It was an awesome safari. We got to see tons of animals, including cheetah and warthogs. My fiancé had never seen them before on the safaris she had been on, so I was deemed good luck. Our two week safari got cut short, thanks to poachers, so once we got back to Harambi, we decided to get a fastpass for another safari and take a stroll along the Pangalini forest trail until our time came up. By this time I was getting hot. It was only 8:30 and I was melting. I probably should have taken this as a sign of things to come, but on I went, eager to press on. Here are some of the photos that we took:
One of the most memorable moments on this trip happened on this trail. I can honestly say I dont remember much of the animals we saw before we got to the hippo and gorillas, but I have pictures somewhere of them, so I know I saw them. The hippo put on a little show for us. It was walking back and forth, right in front of the glass. It was the first time Id ever seen it move around
normally it would be hanging out at the far end of the enclosure napping, so that was pretty cool. That wouldnt compare to the gorillas, however. When we got back to the gorilla area there was practically no one there. The gorillas werent really out, so I can see why we had the place to ourselves. I decided to look at the area around the waterfall, and off in the distance I saw 2 or 3 gorillas, but they were so far off you could barely make them out. My fiancé and I decided to wait around to see if they would come closer, and that may have been one of the best decisions we made all trip. One of the gorillas that was at the back started making his (Im assuming
it was big) way to the front part of the
area. I got really excited. He came all the way up to the edge of the rocks, looked right at us, and made a few low grunting noises at us, almost like he was trying to talk to us. It was amazing. Then he went over and played with a Frisbee for a minute or two, before going over to the waterfall and taking a drink. Im getting goosebumps just remembering this. I cant tell you how awesome that was. He didnt look real. It looked like it was someone in a gorilla suit walking over and drinking. He was so human like. After he was done, he went to the other side of the waterfall and ate some bamboo (thats what it looked like, could have just been leaves). I was amazed at how close he was to us, and at how interactive he was being with us. Several times during this encounter he looked straight at us. Eventually we made our way to the exit, because our fastpass time for the safari had come up, but this remains one of the most memorable things from this vacation. Here are some of the pictures we took of him:
The next safari was just as good as the first one. Things get a little fuzzy for me after this. I was really hot. Im pretty sure we went over to get fastpasses for Expedition Everest after the safari, and from there we went over to ride Dinosaur. On our way over, we spotted the lady who dresses up in leaves. I dont remember her name at the moment, but she mesmerizes me every time I see her. If you were walking by too quickly you would miss her. Its really neat. Here she is:
Dinosaur was
a little scary. (laughing) Its my fiancés favourite ride, and I had never ridden it before. I dont like loud noises, so this ride was
well
interesting for me. (laughing) Im slightly ashamed to say I rode it almost entirely with my eyes closed
but, later on in the trip I had my eyes open for almost the whole thing.
After Dinosaur, we got some frozen lemonades and decided to shop around in some stores before our Expedition Everest fastpass time came up. At this point I was not feeling too well. I was very hot and a little hungry, but I kept on going without mentioning it to my fiancé. Mistake. I figured Id be okay to keep going until our fastpass time, do Everest, and head for lunch at the YaknYetti. Well, after shopping around I wasnt feeling any better, and once we got back to Everest and saw the fastpass line was outside, I knew I couldnt stand in that heat the way I was feeling. Disappointedly, we gave our fastpasses to a couple waiting in the standby line and headed to our lunch reservation an hour and a half early. It was busy at the YaknYetti but they were able to seat us fairly quickly. At this point I really wasnt feeling well, but I figured that food might help, so I ordered something light, I think it was the Orange Honey Chicken or something like that. I was only able to have a few bites before I knew I had to stop or it wouldnt be good for anyone. This is when I mentioned to my fiancé I wasnt feeling well. She finished up her meal, the duck, which looked awesome, while I sat there and took a gravol (again, like Dramamine). I asked for my food packed up, in hopes that Id be able to get it back to the hotel and have it later (we had a fridge in our room), but unfortunately that never happened. It was decided that I should go back to the hotel, and that my fiancé would take me to the front of the park and then stay to do a few more things before going back. Along the way to the front of the park we stopped in every air-conditioned place we could find in hopes it would make me feel well enough to make it back to the bus. I dont remember what store we were in when my fiancé told me that she was going to take me to the first aid place instead of going to the bus, because apparently I didnt look very well. I didnt feel well either
I was trying to keep the few bites of my lunch in their rightful place. It's time for some food porn!
I never thought Id need a first aid place in a Disney Park, but I am so glad they have them.
I went in and lay down for about an hour and a half, cooled down, and let my stomach settle (took a second gravol). I was very disappointed I didnt get to do more of the park, and also sad I kept my fiancé from doing what she wanted, but she said she was glad to stay and keep me company. The staff at the first aid place were very accommodating, and the facility was clean, and well kept. Im also happy to report that that was the only time I needed the first aid station, and hopefully I wont have to use one again, but now I wont hesitate to do so in the future should the need arise.
After my stint at the first aid station, we headed to the bus to get back to the resort for a little more rest. It was still hot out, but it was probably around 3:30 or 4 at this point, so at least the sun wasnt as intense. Once again, we had bus foo, and there was one waiting for us when we got there, which I was very thankful for.
Back at the resort I laid down for a little bit while my fiancé wrote in her travel journal and played a game on her Nintendo DS. I dont think I was napping for too long, because I remember looking at the clock and thinking that if my parents flight was on time that it would be getting in soon. Instead of going to a park right away, we stayed and took a stroll around the grounds of our resort, snapped a few photos, and went back to the room to wait for my parents to arrive. We didnt have to wait long before I heard a knock on the door, and they were there.
I was so happy to see them! They were finally in Disney World! After we each told stories of the day, we split up. My fiancé and I went to the Hollywood Studios, because it was open late, while my parents stayed at the resort, settled in, and had a bite to eat. We set up a time to meet in Hollywood Studios by Oprah (laughing), and we were on our way.
I was feeling worlds better by this time, and was actually starving. I was very happy about this. We decided to go to Pizza Planet because it was near Star Tours and it was a place wed both eaten at before when we were younger, so we thought it would be fun to go back.
It wasnt too busy when we got there, but the line seemed to go pretty slow for some reason. The food was just okay, like we remembered it being, but it was food and I was happy to be eating.
When we were done at Pizza Planet we still had over an hour to kill before meeting up with my parents, so we decided to ride Star Tours. It is so much better now! I found it fun before, but kind of lame
now its way more up to date. The 3-D really helps add to the experience.
Once our ride was over, we headed over to Oprah to meet with my parents. They were already there when we got there, and my dad was just bursting to do something. Apparently he had already been taking lots of photos. Thats what he does
takes a lot of photos. After our praises of the new Star Tours, he really wanted to ride it, so back we went. As we were in the line, a cast member noticed our Just Engaged buttons and handed the 4 of us fastpasses so we could go right back on the ride when we were done. It was awesome! Of the 3 flights I had, there was something new in each one, which was pretty cool. Sadly, that was the only time we got to do the ride, so Im glad we did it 3 times.
After Star Tours it was pretty late, and getting close to closing time, but my fiancé and I had never seen Toy Story Mania, so over we went. The line was still 45 minutes long about half an hour before the park was slated to close. I couldnt believe it was actually that long, but it was. It almost seemed longer. That has to be the longest line for a ride Ive been in, but it is pretty cool. The ride itself was really fun, and my dad beat me by 10,000 points
but hes done it many more times that I had, so I think I did pretty good for my first time. That was the only time I got to ride that one too, which was a bit of a shame, but at least I got to do it!
By this time we were all beyond exhausted and stumbling our way back to the front of the park. After a quick photopass stop, we were at our bus stop. We waited no longer than 5 minutes for a bus. Once we got back to the hotel we all practically fell into bed. It was a long day for everyone.

End of Day 2.
