Dr. Jones and the Spitting Camel - Link to Alaska Cruise TR 9/18

So glad that you guys were able to make it to tea! I think the strawberries & cream and the sparkling wine were my favorite part when I went. :rotfl:

Also pleased the boys got to have their news-to-you but apparently much anticipated lunch at Rainforest.

Can't wait to hear about Teppan Edo. I have yet to try it but it sounds really fun.

All of the self-protraits from your tea were hilarious. It's funny how many times you have to try to get one that looks good. I love the picture of the table that is all set up & empty. It is beautiful!

She cracks me up with those, it was a ton of fun. It is such a pretty, girly room. Just lovely.

My mom really wanted to do that tea on our last trip, but I had not read anything about it, so we let the idea go. After seeing your review, I know she would have loved it. We will have to remember for next time.

Oh you should, leave the boys and go with your mom, you'd love it. And, for $25, the tea we chose really was quite a bit of food, overall I thought was a pretty good deal. I'd thought it a bit overpriced going into it but it really was more food than I thought it would be. It would make a lovely light lunch.

Cynthia, the GF Tea looks wonderful... I will certainly have to make plans to do it sometime! You three "proper ladies" look like you're having a practically perfect time!

Kathy

Oh, that reminds me of Practically Perfect Patrica! I hope she is doing ok. We really did have a practically perfect time, though I'm not sure we were very proper!

Loved your "TEA" update !!I am pretty sure Christine and I are doing that in December 2012 !! I have never done it although have been to a few locally and of course do my own version for the Consumers at leat twice a year !!! I love the pretty cups and the elegance of GF !!

It's lovely Rosie, you will enjoy it if you are able to do it in December.

The GF tea looks lovely! It seems like such a relaxing way to spend the afternoon.

Looking forward to your report on the dark side.

It was a lovely afternoon! Ah yes...the dark side is getting very close now!

Well - you look pretty darn good for being drenched right before tea. It looks like a lovely way to spend the afternoon. The food looks delish. So glad you all had a good time while the boys were off eating and shopping. Now there's a switch - the boys shopping and spending.

Great pictures!

The blessing of straight hair and a messy low pony with a flower pin. :rotfl: It covers up a LOT. My shirt dried out ok so that was a good thing. It was a lovely afternoon and yes, funny that they shopped while we looked but didn't actually buy anything. Well, until we got to the YC gift shop. :rotfl:

I was glad they did as the boys really wanted to look at DTD and we'd not really done it yet.

The food was delish, loved it all!

I agree with Mary Ellen - you look good for a "drowned rat!" I'm so glad you all made it where you needed to be and got to enjoy some nice time together. I really want to take my girls to tea, but they are a little young and I am not sure they'd appreciate it that much yet. Maybe in a couple years...
Great pictures - the rose Kendall shot is beautiful!!

I can't wait to hear how Teppan Edo went! We had so much fun there!

Thanks, I was dry by then :rotfl:

There were a ton of little girls, all in their princess dresses. I'm not sure at what age they'd really get it and appreciate it.

Great photos from your tea! It looks like it was so much fun to have some girly time.

It was a ton of fun, a great girly escape which had been the whole plan, but I admit it was even more fun than I'd expected. A special afternoon.

Great updates, Cynthia. It looks as if the girls had a great time at the Tea...and I love the photo with the rose.

Great t-shirt...and I agree, sports needs more characters...at least characters of that type.

:rotfl: Evan fits right in with those characters, that's for sure. We did have a great time.

Okay! I did it! I caught up! Two posts and some conversation! OH, and BTW, those Fizzes are originally named such b/c they are modified from Ramos Fizzes, which are gin based and have an egg white in them! My uncle changed the alcohol to vodka. AND you are right the total is for two blenderfuls.... so mix it all up, cut it in half with ice and blend, TWICE!!! :) Once you fill everyone's glasses, of course!!! Not pink lemonade, though! I wondered how that tasted!!!??? I bet good? :goodvibes

Ah...the egg white would give you the fizz. BLEH on gin though. :rotfl:

The pink was good, I prefer the regular but I have to admit, the mango rum version might well be my favorite!

So the train that left you deserted! Oh man, I would have been worried! But you always seem to just roll with these things, but I guess in that situation what could you do!! ;) You know we have never done that train, etc. Always other things we are doing want to do, etc. GLAD you got to do Kali, though, and you don't look worse for it at your Tea!! SO Much fun.. I would love to do that one time, but alas with my boys, not a chance!!! DH and I did Tea at the Ritz on our honeymoon in London. It was quite an affair! I would totally do that again, and with Mrs. Potts, why not!! Champagne was definitely a must! :thumbsup2

Great photos of you all....

Yeah, you are stranded so eally what can you do? No other options and freaking out won't change the fact that you are stranded so...thank heavens for that CM!

Maybe you could get away for the tea for DISmeet on one of your trips, or if you are there again with some of your family or something but yeah, with just the boys probably not going to happen. We thought about it for our girls trip but the Trek won.

Can't wait to hear about Teppan Edo...one restaurant we have not been to... I can't get past Tokyo Dining! :thumbsup2

And besides, your kids seem to nap so well at Tokyo Dining! :rotfl:

I really hope to go there next trip, we stilll haven't made it there, we can't get past Teppan!

I can't believe you are leaving Disney I am sure your trip felt longer than the posts!! :) Or maybe because I am reading them all together!! LOL! But, it sure seems like you got your R & R and family time in even still, and just had a nice time... The illuminations cruise does seem like a wonderful way to celebrate together.. CANNOT wait to hear your take on the next leg of your trip!!! That is our destination in 2012!!!!

Yep, one more dinner and a morning and then dark side here we come!!!
In some ways it felt long and in others, not at all. It was a little choppy, the way and dates Sandie and Paul came in and we definitely did a lot less less while they were there but overall we did a ton and some really really special moments like the cruise and the tea.

Cynthia! I'm glad to see you finally got rescued from your stalled out train!:thumbsup2 Now, I would not have felt so smug, as I and my nephew nearly succumbed to heat stroke on our 2007 trip. It was the first truly hot day of the year, and we went from cart to cart and stand to stand all day trying to get something to drink. The computers kept shutting down due to the heat and the carts were closed. It was really difficult to get a drink. I finally had to throw a fit on the steps of one snack stand that was closing, and the manager let me in. Bad Form, Disney. The hottest park in the World, and no drinks to be had! :headache: sorry, this is just a sore spot for me

The smugness just may have some foreshadowing in it.

That sounds AWFUL Tammie, I'm glad you threw a fit.

Your tea party was so special! It is wonderful to see the 3 of you having so much fun together! I'm glad you had such a perfect afternoon together - AND you got some pool time in too!:thumbsup2 Looking forward to your Teppan Edo dinner!

It really was a perfect afternoon

Cynthia, I am really loving your TR! I am still in awe about how you managed that large and diverse group... And wow, a trip with your side of the family! It sounds like it would be a very fun event!! I will be looking forward to that report, especially since I have met a few of the cast in person! :goodvibes

I'm not sure I really managed them :rotfl: but thanks!

My side is a blast to do Disney with. We've done it twice (some of them more, but without me) our last big trip of about 20, was in 2004. It's a bit like herding cats to figure out dates and such and historically we've stayed offsite to save $$ but I know my family will want to stay onsite (and hopefully DVC by then) so it will be interesting to see how it plays out. Right now we are tentatively looking at 12/26-1/3/2012. I am SO excited about this idea!

We have a family party this weekend to celebrate 4 birthdays (Evan, one of my nephews, Mom and Dad) and I'm sure we will talk about it then. My one sister wants me to just plan it all for everyone which I am fine with doing but I think it is more likely I'll plan for some and others, who are wishy washy or whatever, can just book on their own. The group could range anywhere from 9-25 or so. I do need to call about special events etc as if the group is large enough, sometimes if you book a catered event (which we may do as a surprise party for my mom and dad), you can get a block room rate. Probably the biggest challenge will be folks who can't commit and then expect to get a last minute room during the holiday season!

Which is still likely higher than a good discount, but better than rack. We will see.

What I do know is this, regardless of where others stay, we'll be on property. Evan of course thinks it would be EPIC if all the boy cousins could be in a treehouse together. Granted, that depends on who comes. If my brother from Germany comes there are 8 nephews and there is NO way only one adult would stay with them. So I'm already going back and forth on where would be best for US to stay...and then layering in the rest of the players.

:rotfl:

In reality if the dates are agreed on, planning won't really start until next Jan anyway. So all I need to do between now and Jan is buy DVC...which means I need to decide where. I'm hoping to maybe buy on the cruise but if not, it will probably be next Jan and try to get a double point deal like they offered this year. For our needs I'm planning on buying direct, at least to start. So...we will see, I'm torn!

So glad that you guys were able to make it to tea! I think the strawberries & cream and the sparkling wine were my favorite part when I went. :rotfl:

Mine too! Although I did like the tea and the pate quite a bit as well.

Also pleased the boys got to have their news-to-you but apparently much anticipated lunch at Rainforest.

I'm glad they did too, and I didn't have to go :rotfl:

Can't wait to hear about Teppan Edo. I have yet to try it but it sounds really fun.

It's a great group location.

What a great tea day!!! I have done the GF tea before and your pictures make me want to do the tea again!!! SO beautiful there!!

Love the pictures of Kendall!!! Such a pretty young lady!!!!

Strawberries and Cream...sound so good right now!!!

She is lovely, isn't she

That sounds wonderful to me right now as well!

I'm making a new Mahi Mahi recipe tonight for dinner club, if it turns out well I'll send you the recipe along with the Mahi Tacos :)

Mango rum version!? How can it be that I have not heard of this yet?? :scared1:

Ok, now onto the update...

Your tea time with ladies only looks simply wonderfully, girly! I love what you ordered too. :thumbsup2 Mine was quite different, but I was able to taste several things off of the plates you ordered too. I too, love their presentation, and how elegant everything is there. So pretty!

I love that you 3 giggled, and self-posed, and stuck roses into your hair! A perfect afternoon capped by that ever-elusive dip in the pool!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

It was embedded in the chatter on the girls trip TR lol.

Hi!

I do try to plan for lots of travel time but oh, for some reason DTD takes FOREVER from wherever I am.

What a lovely afternoon tea! I love the china they use at the Grand Floridian -- so elegant and pretty! :lovestruc It is quite obvious from all of the great pictures that you all had a blast! What a nice outing for you to share with Sandi and K! :goodvibes

It is pretty, I think it might be old country roses by royal albert/royal doulton. I've always been drawn to that pattern.

It was fun and someday you and Chelsea will do it, in pretty dresses, and have a lovely time!!

Hey Cynthia! Finally got all caught back up again. I'm glad I got to read all that in one sitting...the suspense would have killed me! What a crazy day in AK! Looking forward to more!

Winding down the school year and looking forward to summer. We are T-minus 12.5 months on Disney liftoff (Lord willing and the creek don't rise) so that makes me happy..in a longing and slightly depressing sort of way.

Hope the E clan is getting ready to enjoy themselves the mess out of some summertime break.

:cool1::cool1::cool1:

that's great news! And...time for you to start a PTR! LOL. Seriously though, you should!

I know what you mean, I think our next trip is now officially 18 months away...slightly depressing.

The E clan is not remotely organized for summer break and needs to get their act together! We still have 3 weeks though.

We first tried Teppan Edo in February of 2009. I enjoy hibachi and the group experience and its decent food. Nothing unusual or especially unique but the experience really “sells” it for my group. Teppan had been the ONE place that my kids demanded we go back to. I really kind of wanted to do all new locations but let them have this one. Even after the “vote” it still came up way up there on the list. Sandie had been kind of “meh” on the idea until she heard how much the kids loved it.

Nice thing about being a party of 8 is that I knew we’d have our own table so that might make it more fun. We’d had an amazing chef before and I hoped tonight’s could live up to that experience.

Arriving, it was as crazy in there as I remembered from before and despite the late hour we still had to wait a bit for our table. Once seated, the boys were quickly given some cheater chopticks

IMG_6232.jpg

The rest of us perused our menus. They look so excited don’t they?

I decided something festive, to mark the occasion of our last evening was in order (NOT a sake fan)

IMG_6234.jpg

The Mt. Fuji.

Sandie got wine, Paul some kind of cocktail and Jeff went for sake.

IMG_6235.jpg

Somehow our new chef’s mickey mouse onions just didn’t have the same impact as before. Perhaps it was the fact we’d heard the “story” before, or he just wasn’t nearly as funny.

IMG_6236.jpg

IMG_6237.jpg

It really is fun to watch the process, you can see some of our entrees out there. Swordfish and Chicken at this point I think.

One volcano ready to blow

IMG_6240.jpg

IMG_6241.jpg

Veggies almost ready

IMG_6242.jpg

Ah…Very sharp knife!

IMG_6243.jpg

IMG_6244.jpg

A little salt and pepper

IMG_6245.jpg

I think this was nemo jumping…

IMG_6246.jpg

Mnn! Veggies and noodles, one of my favorite parts of this meal
IMG_6247.jpg

Time to put the red meat on

IMG_6248.jpg

IMG_6249.jpg

My swordfish

IMG_6250.jpg

Evan’s shrimp

IMG_6251.jpg

And a lot of meat for most everyone else.

IMG_6252.jpg

Somehow, Eric became chef. I think it may have been birthday button related.

IMG_6253.jpg

It’s not staying on very well is it?

IMG_6254.jpg

Continued in next post

Out of nowhere someone comes by (a manager for some reason I think) and started making origami at the table with the kids!

Eric’s blue crane

IMG_6257.jpg

A red one for Evan

IMG_6259.jpg

IMG_6260.jpg

IMG_6261.jpg

They could “flap”
IMG_6263.jpg

Kendall found a new use for the Mt. Fuji umbrella

IMG_6264.jpg

She also got a frog!

IMG_6265.jpg

Which hopped right out of this picture!

IMG_6266.jpg

He looks like he’s going to attack the cherry

IMG_6267.jpg

Being a girl and in a pretty sundress also got her a purple crane as well as the frog

IMG_6269.jpg

She parked him on Eric’s hat

IMG_6270.jpg

Which Evan stole and apparently has an even smaller head than Eric!

IMG_6271.jpg

We played with those cranes for quite a while. Had tea, dessert, just hung out and enjoyed ourselves. It was our last night. Our chef wasn’t quite as good (entertaining and engaging) but was fine. The food was delicious, as before. But orgami guy made up for the chef and overall, again, a really great evening.

We got a little too relaxed though. At one point the manager came out and said

“How are you getting home tonight”

We looked at each other, confused. No one had more than 2 drinks at dinner (if that) and we weren’t really sure what the question was. He clarified.

"Are you taking a bus to a hotel on property or did you drive?"

We walked.

We plan to walk back.

"Oh"

"Did you know that they close the international gateway?"

WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYTT????
:scared1::scared1:

I mean really, you assume that while people are in the restaurants, they wouldn’t close it, wouldn’t you?

But, apparently they do and there is a window, maybe 2 hours, I can’t recall, after park closing. The park had closed at 9. Which is about when we were seated. And our dining experience wasn’t exactly fast. I wasn’t sure how the heck we would get “home” if in fact the IG was closed. Couldn’t take a boat, I didn’t think there were actually Epcot Busses to the Epcot resorts (but don’t know) and my stress level shot up in a heartbeat anticipating some crazy monorail/ttc/bus adventure at midnight.

PAY BILL

PAY BILL FAST

RUN PEOPLE RUN!

It was comical

But not really

Paul has gout, he can’t run.

Sandie really can’t either.

A few of them ran ahead to see if they could keep it open, if in fact it was almost closed or being closed

It wasn’t. :worship:

A bit out of breath, but laughing we all got to the turnstiles and walked out.

No problem.

WHEW!

And with that adventure over, it was bedtime. We didn’t want to stay up as we all needed to pack, had breakfast reservations (and were ideally packed with bags at bell services BEFORE breakfast) and then make our way to…

The Dark Side.

A sigh and a bye

I would've been stressed too, imagining a very long detour to get back to a close-by resort.

Love the pictures with the chef's hat engulfing Eric's and then Evan's heads.

The food looks really good at Teppan Edo, but I still think I want to try different places since we've done Hibachi locally several times.

Wow! Good to know about the IG closing at some point!! :scared1: But it sounds like a lovely last evening at WDW.

Did I mention that I am looking forward to the Dark Side report? Katharina and I have a very specific reason to be very interested in your experience. ;)
