Fears, tears, fun, and laughter: We survived spring break TR updated 1/29

Wednesday March 16, 2011

MK Day (just a side note here, originally when I started checking park hours, I think MK was closing at 10pm, then it changed to 11pm, and then it changed to 12am)

From this part of the trip moving forward I don’t have any notes written up and I’m just going by the pictures to jog my memory.

Looking at the pictures from the morning I’m reminded that Peter Pan brought the boys Whoopee Cushions.

springbreak2011072-1.jpg
springbreak2011073.jpg

Jack thinks they are hilarious, and of course he had Buzz partake in the fun too.

springbreak2011074.jpg
springbreak2011075-1.jpg

Buzz was his best friend all week, if you hadn’t noticed from all the pictures. And he took the whoopee cushion to every person in the house and had them sit on it. Everyone played along and acted tricked, but he would just say “here sit on this” and then laugh.

So with their brand new Mickey shirts (purchased in AK the day before) we loaded up the car and headed out. When we arrived I was slightly confused as I really had not done my homework on getting to MK. Because I had never stayed off property before, I didn’t realize the only way to get to MK from the parking lot was via the monorail or boat.

springbreak2011076-1.jpg
springbreak2011077-1.jpg

We opted for the Monorail though standing in the line I headed down to check out the boat and as I waved to my family about 75 people came charging me, and my family stayed in line for the monorail and we got on within 10-15 min.

springbreak2011078-1.jpg
springbreak2011079-1.jpg

The boys enjoyed the monorail ride and Jack got excited when I said I could see Mickey’s castle (as we refer to it).

springbreak2011082-1.jpg
springbreak2011083-1.jpg

We did not make rope drop, a big reason being I was not prepared for the ride on the monorail.

Now we had discussed heading straight to Dumbo, but I had also hoped to grab a big group photopass picture in the entrance and in front of the castle. Well there was some confusion and everyone made a mad dash for Dumbo, except my little family of course. So we held everyone up (not really they went and rode Dumbo) while I got pictures with my family.

After we took our first picture of the day, and my husband headed through the tunnel to the left I started thinking about my friend Heidi and was debating whether to tell my DH that we needed to enter the other side (especially after the previous two days). But he moved quickly and so I just went with it.

The excitement was building as we walked down Mainstreet and the castle came into view.

springbreak2011084.jpg
springbreak2011085.jpg

We stopped half way down Main Street for more PP pictures, where Jack was looking for Tinkerbelle, he looked in my hand and then at me as he was confused when he saw nothing.

We get up to the center of MK in front of the castle and yep you guessed it we stopped for more pictures. Jack wasn’t really in the mood the whole way, but I forget what my DH said to him and he finally took Buzz away from his face and we got a nice picture.

I wanted to get a picture of them walking through the castle and did, but it didn’t turn out how I had hoped.

Next up…waiting and riding Dumbo and some pixie dust for my niece

Oh my, I'm sorry also that you had to evacuate. It's good to hear that you think your house will be okay.

Whoopee cushions from Peter Pan? That's the most thoughtful gift EVER!

Visiting the MK from off-site is definitely a pain in the butt! :headache: The boys were getting to the point that they didn't even want to go there by the end of our trip because of the long trip to get there.

Wow - you got a lot of PP pictures! :thumbsup2 My boys would have been flipping out if I stopped that many times. I love the Tink one!

I love the boys new shirts too.

I hope you guys are doing OK & make it home soon. :goodvibes

Sorry about the evac. We have families around here in iowa that go threw this every year. I luck out thanks to hubby who thought about this when we bought our house about ten months before the big flood of 08. You got some great pics of the boys.

OY! Confusion from the get-go is tough!! Glad they just moved on while you all got some GREAT family photos! I must say, Jessica, you were right on top of getting the MK morning well documented!! Nice job!!

Zachy got a whoopee cushion for Christmas, but the darned thing broke in about an hour! It was a fun hour though while it lasted. :lmao:

Love the whoopee cushions - what a simple but great idea! :thumbsup2 Lol at Jack getting everyone to sit on it - sounds like something I would do! :rotfl:

Great PP pics and I am soo looking forward to the excitement of seeing the castle for the first time.

Ooh...looking forward to reading about the pixiedust:

Thanks, yeah the boys LOVE whoopee cushions, this is the 3rd time they have gotten one

The whole transportation to MK thing from off-site plays a big part of my final thoughts on staying off site.

Yeah, but you can see Jack's arm and Joeys face in the pictures, we got them, but they were less than thrilled about it, but I am guessing they won't let me stop so much in the future now they know what is there, as they both keep talking about one ride in particular.

That would stink if we did this every year. Let's just say we will be doing a lot more research for when we move. thanks, I'm picture obsessed, I don't post all of them, I have bins and bins of photos of my kids:rolleyes1

yeah, plus I didn't make them touring cards this day, and later they said they felt lost without me giving them a guideline :confused3 thanks, my documentation fades as the day goes on:lmao:

The boys love to get whoopee cushions, but yes they never last very long

thanks, it sure kept him entertained while I got everything together and made for some fun and laughter all over the house, a great way to start the day:)

We made our way over toward Dumbo and my Mom is waving her arms all over like a mad woman, I love my Mom but she is so over dramatic sometimes. Everyone asked where we had been and I said we had thought we would all get in a photo in front of the castle, but they had taken off so fast. My sister and niece were already half way through the Dumbo line. So we get in line too. Jack LOVED the mirrors in the que. He has often practiced speech and other things in front of the mirror and so love to make faces in the mirror.

springbreak2011088-1.jpg

Ok so now for the pixie dust, we are waiting in line so I don’t know exactly how it all went down, and some might not think this is pixie dust but being a photo obsessed person I was so jealous of what just happened and thought it was so cool, (something I didn't know was even possible) and then even more so when I saw these pictures….

Photo0135FourBySix.jpg
Photo0137FourBySix.jpg

A PP photographer took pictures of my niece on Dumbo:cool1:, her first ride in MK, and her first ever ride on Dumbo. I LOVE how these pictures turned out. My sister also had to sign some sort of waiver as they said they might get used on the website or show up somewhere and I imagine on the castle that night.

Next was our turn to ride Dumbo, it wasn’t quite next it was a couple more turns, but anyhow… the boys LOVED it. They later in the day wanted to ride again, but the line was just too long.

springbreak2011093-1.jpg
Joey doesn't look so happy in this picture, but he did have fun, he just wanted Dumbo to stay low

Glad our day was starting out so well. I’m pretty sure I had to use the restroom about now. Then we regrouped and all together once again headed over to The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. I cannot express enough how much fun my kids had in this line, they could have been happy just playing in the line. We got rushed a long and I told the boys we would return later in the day to play some more.

After our fun with Pooh we headed to…..

Yep the bathroom again, lol

springbreak2011107-1.jpg
(oh this picture also reminded me how my niece kept coming to play with and tickle the boys, she is so social and lovable, and my kids just aren't so much, I again felt bad)

While we regrouped outside the bathroom my sister and I had a little character interaction of our own, can you guess with who?

Love the pixie dust your niece got and IMO it def was pixie dust!! She looks so cute in that picture and am sure she will love having that reminder! :thumbsup2 Wow - will keep an eye out during our trip to see if I can spot her on the castle etc.

I have seen many pics of the new Winnie the Pooh queue and they look awesome!! I can't wait to have lots of fun whilst waiting in line for that ride :goodvibes

Having a photopass photographer capture your first-ever ride at the Magic Kingdom? Yeah, I'd say that qualifies as pixie dust!!! ::yes:: :yay:

Hmmm, was your character interaction with Pooh himself?

Late to the party but am all caught up!

I have to admit, reading your TR brings back some memories that had clearly been selectively tucked away from trips when my kids were a lot younger. I'm worn out just reading about it. You seem to handle the melt downs and character fears really well and still have a great time. I've yet to actually sit down in beaches and cream, man those sundaes looked huge!

If you do go back and stay on property, I can't say enough good things about the Fort Wilderness cabins. Especially with smaller kids, the amount of room is just perfect, plus the privacy and if you can get in on a good discount, it can work out really well. Ours are too big now so I'm not sure we'll be able to stay there again but we really really loved it.

That dumbo picture is priceless! I'd be very excited about it too :)

Hi Jessica! I can't believe I didn't realize you had this TR going - I'm so observant sometimes

Anyway, thanks to your handy links I'm all caught up and I'll do my best to stay that way!

Thanks for joining and Welcome

Thanks for the info on the cabins, I'm going to have to really do more research before our next trip

just skimmed your previous TR's going back later today or tomorrow to read them, I know they are complete, but I was curious about the cabins, you have a lovely family

I was almost positive I'd commented on this a few days ago when you posted it, but looky- it's not there. UGH!

YES!! Nice pix of the first ride! Really, they are very good. Framable, I'd say, even.

Pooh was still under construction during my trip, so I'm super excited to see if for myself someday. meantime, I have to rely on posts like yours. ;)

Wow! You got some great family PP pictures and the boys look like they are having a fantastic morning. The Winnie the Pooh queue looks very cute! Hope the day continues to go well. LOL to your over dramatic mom!

Thanks! That trip report is complete but there are 2 ongoing right now :) However, on the cabins if you just skip to the end of the "how emh saved our trip" report there is a recap on the cabins (I think)

Goodness it has been a long time since I posted an update. I had originally planned to get this TR done before our move, but after returning home from the flood evacuation we got a call moving up our move date, so instead of moving mid july to August 1st we leave in just 10 days :scared1: so things have been a little bit hectic here

so I felt I needed to post a little more from our MK day and hopefully will get one more up before we head to our new home.

So we left off with my sister and I meeting a special character, who did we pose with?? Pinnocchio, my Mom has a picture but I need to get it from her, actually she has several pictures I need to get and I'll add those in a photo post when I am able to get them. After our picture with the little wooden puppet we headed to IASW, this ride was a hit with everyone, and as was becoming routine after I snagged a few pictures Jack took over the camera:

After the boat tour we headed toward Frontierland for a Country Bear Jamboree (my Dad's favorite attraction)
springbreak2011138-1.jpg

The verdict on that ride was Joey loved it, Jack really didn't like it and I'm really not sure what aggravated him, but I almost had to take him out of the show, he was curled up in a ball while digging his head into my lap and crying off and on. And I think my niece had mixed reviews of it.

Up next... It's Amazing the rides Jack enjoys after being afraid of simple rides, can you guess what ride he braved next?
