Overused words and phrases

......ya know...........ya know...............ya know......

I'll soon know because you're telling me right now!

I have a relative who has a nervous tick where they say the word SO anytime they run out of things to say or there is a pause in the conversation almost like they are adding it as the last word to every sentence.

How was your trip, so? I haven't been to Disneyworld in years, so. Did you ride the teacups, so?

I don't think they know they are doing it as often as they do, but it drives me bonkers.

I have a bad habit of overusing the word LOVE. As in, oh, "I just LOVE that child" or "oh, I LOVE that coworker". Really, if I were being more accurate, I think the child is cute and well behaved and I think the coworker is pleasant to work with. I use that word way too loosely.

Corporate sayings make me sick:

On the Same page

At the end of the day.. barf! :scared:

On this board a quote and the word "THIS!" :headache::headache::headache:

I'll use this thread as a public service announcement to say:

The word is CONVERSE. Not CONVERSATE.
Conversing; not conversating.

Thank you. You may continue.

The worst is "Well, anyway, to make a long story short..." when it is WAY too late for that.

And as the parent of a middle schooler I'd like to nominate "beast" and "sick".

Google-fu

Used on another sit e afrequent when people just seem to fail at finding the simpleset information online.

"Hey there, can you guys help. I can't figure out how to remove th esmell of gasoline from my DBFs shirt. My google-fu is not working today."

Ugh. It's prsents that notion that certain people have the Google touch.

Oh, and when people refer to themselves as a guru at something or in an area of expertise/knowledge.

AWESOME

Whatevs (hate this one it is not a word..whatever is annoying but this one is like fingernails on a chalkboard....sad to realize a generation from now no one will know what that means..most schools have white boards now)

I TOTALLY ABSOLUTELY agree with "To make a long story short" I groan whenever I hear it and my DH uses it way too often

TOTALLY & ABSOLUTELY (In case anyone missed the humor)

My DH says "Really?" all the time....

DH: Is dinner ready?
Me: No.
DH: Really?
Me: No, I was lying before, but now that you have questioned me with your "really?" I will admit to the lie.

*That's gay! (for that's not cool)
*Sweet!
*But at the same time... (this makes it sound like you can't make up your mind!)
*Hater!
*If and when I decide to do something...(well, which is it? If or when?)
*That's money! (for something that is great)
*That food is to die for! (no food is worth dying for..someone please tell my MIL this before I go nuts!!)

I can't stand extra letters added to anything, especially consonants.

Vowels I can manage, like "soooooo" in the post above really doesn't bother me. But this is what I can't stand:

I'm so boredddddd

Happy Birthdayyyyy

I see it mostly of Facebook from the younger set.

That bugs me too, but the worst is when they extend the silent e at the end. So "I like" becomes "I likeeeeeeee". I don't read that as "like", I read it as "likey", and it sounds so stupid.

"actually" I hear the journalists on the news programs using this word so many times in the same blurb that my ears hurt.

"I am actually standing on the same spot where the accused actually stepped foot and actually tried to leave the scene. He was actually apprehended by the police. The victims family has actually made a statement....back in a bit!" :dance3:

The three that come to my mind all happen to come out of my husband's mouth. Makes me want to ring his neck everytime he says them!

1. "irregardless" Yeah, that's not a word.
2. When he's talking to someone he'll keep saying, "Like I said..." Except, he usually didn't say.
3. "One half does the other" he keeps telling me this is one of those sayings, yet I've never heard anyone say it. Nor do I understand what the heck it's supposed to mean (if anyone does, please feel free to explain it to me). I think he's saying it wrong.:confused3

Awesome. I agree. How many things in life truly are awesome?

Prolly. Where the crap does that one come from?

Ok I think he means "half a dozen in one hand, six in the other"...which basically means it doesn't matter either way.
And I should have said "like I said" on my post too. I hate that!!! We have a woman at work that says that after everything she says! :headache:

Umfortunatly irregardless IS a word. Definition? Regardless:rolleyes:

Mine would have to be "proactive". It's my boss's new favorite thing to say anytime a problem arises that no one (including him)could have possibly foreseen. :rolleyes2

I know a guy who says "and that there" after just about every statement. Drives me nuts! :crazy2:

And when someone puts "at" at the end of a sentence such as Where are you staying at?. Our adult son still does this.

My least favorite word in any language ... "listen". Have dealt with many people over time who start casual sentences with that and it is such a negative/directive word to me.

Do hear "beast" so often in sports these days.
