his morning I took my DD11 to my GP as she had a sore throat and the Pediatrician is on vacation.

He told me that her tonsils were swollen, did a strep test. Then went on to ask if I was satisfied with my Pediatrician, right there I knew something was up.
Then he made me feel, and she has a goiter on her thyroid. You can feel it

She will be going for blood tests Saturday morning, and he requested an Emergency Ultrasound of the thyroid. I am waiting for the Children's Hospital to call back.

In the meantime, Google is not your friend, and I was wondering if anyone had any experience in this.

TIA

He mentioned we have to do this ASAP, and that this "might" be the reason she is not growing.

Tomorrow at 3pm is her U/S, and bloodwork is on Saturday, with a return visit to the Dr. April 11th.

Thank you in advance.

 and prayers for your dd and for you . You sure do have alot on your plate right now. My heart goes out to you.

Its good the gp is on top of this and I hope the tests will give you a definite answer to what is going on. The thyroid controls alot of things in the body, I sure found that out the hard way as you know.

I know when my ds was not growing I took him to a pediatric endocronologist. They are the best for all the hormonal/growth etc. things with kids.

Wishing your dd all the best. Keep us informed.

I had this happen to me too when I was in college...I ended up seeing an endocronoligst (sp?) and they did a biopsy. Not fun the needle is huge but doesnt hurt too bad. (Yes it does hurt but when you see the needle you think it will hurt much worse). The blood work is to see if she has an overactive or underactice thyroid.

Google is not your friend. I did that and had myself convinced I was going to die. There is a VERY rare form of thyroid cancer that is pretty aggressive. However like I said totally RARE and if I remember correctly mostly older people have this form.

My results turned out fine, no cancer and no reason for an enlarged thyroid. They put my on synthroid.

As my coupon (in early 30s) ended up having this and having cancer. They did surgery to remove her throid and then did radiation. She is now cancer free. And in terms of cancer this one isnt too bad. I think she was out of work for about a month and she does have a small scar on her neck.

But I am sure your daughter will be fine and I will keep her (and your family) in my prayers.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Will keep you and her in our prayers tonight. While I know it is tempting to research it may end up causing you more to worry about. Be patient and wait for the Dr.'s diagnosis. Each case can be very different. God Bless:littleangel:

Definately keeping your daughter in my thoughts and prayers. I had gone to the doctor about my thyroid because I found a lump. Had an ultrasound done, and I have multiple nodules and cysts, but they said they were all too small to be concerned about and would need a followup ultrasound in a year to see if anything changes. They assured me that nodules and cysts up to a certain size can be normal.

I would like to thank each and every one of you. Never underestimate replying. Each and every one made me smile and tear up a little.

To my Dis Board family :grouphug:

Oh Gosh, I was shocked to read this post this morning. Remember that google is not your medical friend.

BIG Koala cuddles to you and your daughter:grouphug:

Thinking of you and hoping things are quickly resolved.

Hugs to you. Will say prayers for you and your daughter. Please let us know the results. I completely agree with not searching the internet. It will make you worry worse than you should.

Hi there,

Just wanted to pop in and let you know I am thinking of your DD. Have no fear though, Children's Hospital is the best! My daughter has a chronic illness so we are frequent flyers to our nearby Children's Hospital. They have the best doctors and I'm sure they will figure out what's going on and put a plan in place for a solution. Try to remain calm for her sake and reassure her that there is a team of Rockstars ready to sweep in and start tackeling any obstacles in the way.

Hoping for a speedy and non-complicated resolution soon for your family.

All the best,
Erica

Hi Mommasita,
You often post words of comfort on this board and I was saddened to read your story about your daughter. You are so right, the internet is not your friend when googling medical conditions. So don't even go there. It sounds like the covering doc is on the right track. Stay positive, and please keep us posted. :grouphug:

Prayers for your daughter, you. Try not to think too far ahead. Use deep breaths if you feel yourself starting to get tense.

Prayers from our home to yours.

My Mom has described surgery she had when she was a young mother. She describes it as having 5 "growths" removed from her thyroid. not sure if this is the same, but she has lived a wonderful "normal" life and is now approaching 80.

Positive thoughts for you & your dd.

Please update when you feel up to it. Prayers will continue from me & my home.

Thank you everyone. I will update most definitely.

We have the bloodwork on Sat, had the U/S yesterday, and see the Dr. on April 11th, providing we don't hear anything before then.

I probably am repeating myself, sorry if I am.

Just a :grouphug: and good wishes for the outcome

 Thank You and everyone else as well.

DH brought her for the bloodtests this morning. Now just waiting on all the results.

Having a fabulous day just DS and I, as he is leaving tomorrow for a school trip for 6 days.:goodvibes

The weather is so gorgeous and sunny, just taking one day at a time.
