We leave for Disney in 3 1/2 weeks, and the prices are still climbing. YIKES !!! I really don't want to have to take money from our spending budget at DW to pay for gas!!!!

NO not yet. I see this every summer. It comes and goes.

FWIW, gas at WDW is always cheaper, so be sure and fill up before you leave WDW to go back home.

Our trip isn't till Mid May when prices are expected to be over $4/gal :scared1: Luckily, I budgeted based on $4/gal. So if by chance it goes up to even $5/gal, we'll be ok. We may need to eat an extra meal in our room though.

We leave in less than 30 days :-)cool1:) and budgeted $4.00 a gallon. but with the prices increasing, we are bumping our budget to $5 per gallon to be on the safe side. Hoping it stays lower so I can bring home the savings for our next trip, however, I DOUBT it'll go over $5 a gallon so in that case we'll be alright (stinks though!)

We're going in May also and figuring IF it's up to $5 a gallon, it'll still be cheaper for us to drive than fly so yeah, BRING IT ON!!! lol... j/k on that part. It makes me sick to think about it :(

Not freaking out on impact to our Disney vacation since that is a (unfortunately) a short lived event. I am more worried what the gas prices will do to everyday living.........:eek::eek:

I am just so glad we changed our minds about driving a couple of months ago and bought our airfare at a decent rate. With gas prices soaring, we would not save enough to make a 20 hour drive worth it. We are flying for something like $170 pp rt.

We're driving from PA to FL in June. Not crazy about gas price, but it's still cheaper for us to drive than fly or take the train. Gas would have to be over $6/gallon for us to think about another mode of transportation.

However, I do plug our numbers into Amtrack's site every now and then, just to see what the AutoTrain would cost. I figure if I happen to catch a deal we could consider it? But it's still been $1000 for the 5 of us everytime I check...

If I could find a flight for $170 rt pp I would jump on that! Best I can find is to the tune of $1500 for all of us - and driving is still a lot better than that.

We went back and forth for awhile trying to decide or fly. We ended up deciding to fly based on mostly me not wanting to be in a car with two little girls (8 and 2) for almost 14 plus hrs and the fact that the wife wanted to stop on the way down.

Needless to say I bought our air fare back at the end of Jan. since then the tickest (total for the 4 of us) has gone up 378 dollars.

So at this point I am very glad I chose to fly than drive and bought my tickets early.

Gas prices are crazy!!! I traveled to Daytona Beach last week and I did notice that gas prices in the state of Georgia were about $.10 a gallon more than in Alabama and Florida. My next trip south will not include gas stops in Georgia......:confused3

I agree....with that comes an increase in food prices too....scary! :confused3

+2
industry experts are predicting a huge jump in clothes this winter (remember folks, it takes fuel to power industry) not to mention food.

So those strawberries that people love to buy that have to be shipped in from Spain are going to cost an arm and a leg.

I was in the supermarket last Saturday and a women was complaining about the price of bananas. I mention to her that we live on the east coast and it's the middle of winter. where did she think those bananas came from?

Kinda going off topic here but the cost of ground beef is going to go record high as well. We are looking into purchasing part of a cow to save some money. Corn is going to skyrocket as well, it's gonna get worse before it gets better.

Thanks for the laugh!

Yes, I agree. I got lucky in that I just happened to check Airtran out of curiosity one day. After figuring out the cost of gas, hotel on the way down and back, and meals on the road. we were looking at a savings of around $200. My van is twelve years old and has just over 150k miles on it. No problems currently but all it would take is one mishap on the road to quickly eat up that $200 savings.

Just did the fuel calculator - round trip PA-FL will cost $365 @ $3.50/gallon. So even if we hit $7.00/gallon, trip would cost $750 - which is still $400 cheaper than train fare, and $800 cheaper than airfare.

Sorry, I know I should be sympathetic but try living in the UK - we are paying just under $10 gallon here approx :scared1:
