My fiance is Filipino and they also have the cord and the coin tradition (as well as the veil). Come to think of it, it might come from their Hispanic background, as the Philippines were invaded by Spain a long time ago. We won't be doing any of those though, as it's both our second wedding and Ron wants something more simple.
Like you though we will be having a bilingual ceremony as my family speaks French and hsi speaks English.
I remember reading that Filipinos had the lazo and arras as well. I'm not sure I know about the veil, though. It's been interesting learning about all of these different traditions.
How neat you're having a bilingual ceremony as well. Mine will be the first time I've been to one so I hope it turns out well! Since most of our guests are from my side, the majority of the service will be in English with just a few Spanish parts mixed in.
I love all of the touches you're including in your wedding-- it sounds like it'll be a really personal, cultural ceremony. The guest book is gorgeous-- when I saw it, I totally thought of your beautiful Christmas tree and beautifully wrapped presents! It'll be a lovely piece in your home!
Thank you! I'm really excited about how its shaping up. I really hope my guests appreciate the blending of the cultures.
The guest book will definitely match my home decor! I didn't even think about that. I will have to find a good place to display it.
