While I currently live in Northern Virginia (last 7+ years) I am born and raised in South Jersey - Cherry Hill and spend much time at the Jersey shore - Ventnor and of course on the boardwalk in Ocean City - but pushing the convaid cruiser is not the easiest there.

Look forward to reading more.

Epcot – Wednesday, December 29, 2010

Our plan for the day was to head to Epcot as soon as possible, or at least to get there in time to check in for our 10:35 reservation at Akershus. We had had to skip going to Animal Kingdom the day before when Emily had gotten sick in the MK. So, we decided that we would skip Animal Kingdom all together in order to fit in an evening at Hollywood Studios. We really would have loved to see Animal Kingdom, but we had to get Emily to DHS at night to see the Osbourne lights (part of her Wish was for her to see fireworks and light shows), Carter’s fist choice attraction was to meet Mater and McQueen, we wanted Drew to see the Jedi training, and I knew the kids would really love Toy Story mania too.
That was the plan, anyway.

At 3:30am, Emily got sick again, and another round of laundry and cleaning began. She was able to get back to sleep though, so I was hopeful with reducing her feeding rate we could get to Akershus. My husband still was nauseous too, so a big breakfast meal wasn’t tops on his list, but it was the princess experience more than the food that we were going for anyway.

We had told the other kids before they went to bed that we were going to Epcot and Akershus and right as the sun came up, Drew bounded into our bedroom already dressed in his custom Epcot shirt! Carter and Brenna were raring to go too, Emily was settled for the moment, so we decided to go for it.

It was still very chilly (in the 30s!!!) so we got the girls dressed in their gorgeous custom Belle and Cinderella gowns from the Big Give and then had to sadly cover them up with their coats! The boys were all dressed in their Epcot shirts (DH too) and Carter had his prince shirt over his Epcot tee for after our meal. I packed our DHS oufits in a separate bag because if we felt like we could, we didn’t want to come back to GKTW before going to DHS later on.

We made it to Epcot with time to spare and decided to get the double stroller this time for Carter and Brenna. Right away, Emily was upset by the cold air and was crying as we went in. We did stop for a PhotoPass picture in front of “the ball”.

Emily was too cold! :sad2:

The crowds were small this early (around 9:30), which was so nice, and we headed straight for Norway to check in. When we got there, they told us they were running behind and to come back and check in in 20-30 minutes. We had just passed Mexico and I remembered there was a boat ride there (similar to IASW that Emily loved so much!) that I figured we’d have just enough time to ride while we waited out of the cold morning air.

I should’ve taken a picture of the parked triplet stroller we saw when we got to Mexico, but I didn’t. The kids weren’t in it, nor did we see another set of triplets in Mexico, but I was looking for them anyway. It’s always cool to see other people with triplets!

There was no line when we got to The Three Caballeros que, but the wheelchair accessible boat had just left so we did have to wait for it to come back around. The CMs were very friendly and gave the kids some Mickey stickers. Drew said he hoped he could get enough Mickey stickers to give to his classmates when we returned.

They must've known we were coming, there was a party that day!! ;)
002-2.jpg

We all enjoyed the ride and headed back to Akershus to check in. By then, quite a crowd had formed and it was taking a while to call families in to be seated. Emily was becoming more and more upset out in the cold (probably getting up into the 40s now), so Gee-off asked if he could sit with her in the foyer area while Carter, Brenna, Drew and I waited outside to be called. A nice mom who was also waiting with her family offered to take our picture while we were waiting, and after about 15 minutes they announced our “Royal Family”!

We're being announced!!!

Gee-off and Emily joined us in the line to get our pictures taken with Belle first. The CM in the photo line did pull us out of line and got us right up front when they saw Emily which was so nice. Unfortunately, by this time Emily was so upset, she was hysterical for the photos. Because of our family size, we were getting two sets of pictures, and I really wanted to get a family shot and one of Em with Belle. But I decided to let Brenna get her pic with Belle instead since Em wasn’t quite up for it.

I’m really glad I did, because just as we were leaving the picture area to go to our table, Emily got sick again (only a little bit this time- phew)! Luckily, I had put her matching Cinderella bib over her beautiful dress, so only the bib got messed. And wouldn’t you know, as soon as she got sick, she calmed right down and wasn’t upset the whole rest of the time we were there! Poor kid, I wanted to do something to make her feel better, but from our experiences with Em and stomach bugs, there’s not much you can do but wait it out. We did feel bad taking her out while she was sick, but at the same time, we didn’t want her to miss out on her special trip.

Our waitress told us about the food and we got started eating the cold stuff from the buffet while they brought out the hot stuff from the kitchen. The chef came right to our table to check on Carter’s food allergies, which was so reassuring. Luckily Carter had tested out of his egg allergy right before we left for the trip and there wasn’t anything with nuts he would’ve wanted there. My kids in general don’t really like eggs or potatoes so the food was just ok for them, they mostly stuck to the fruit and danishes. I’m sure DH would’ve enjoyed the food more if he had his normal appetite, poor guy, but he ate what he could. I thought the food was very good and ate well. :rolleyes1

I just reminded Drew that he was going to get kissed!

Continued in the next post and my apologies for the blurry pictures at Akershus. I had brought the wrong lens and couldn't get the right light or distance to get clear shots!

Really though, we were there for the princess experience, and it wasn’t long before we saw the first one across the room! It was Snow White, and she was the first one to come to our table. She was sweet enough, signed our books, posed for a few pics, and had the character voice down to a T.

LOVE this one!

Then Jasmine came over. She was really great with us, really interacting with each of the kids, and us, taking her time signing autographs and taking special time with Emily who was starting to wake up when she arrived. She asked where we were from and asked if New Jersey was the one with the cherry hill (there's a big town called Cherry hill, NJ), and said that Genie loves to vacation there. While Emily was still sleeping, she assured us that that was okay because Rajah likes to nap a lot too. I thought she was just great!!

I'm not sure why's she's pointing to her teeth??

Then we saw Mulan coming our way! Before the trip, Nurse Ann had let us borrow the movie because the kids had never seen it and they liked Mulan 1 and 2 so much they watched them several each times over a week or so. They were excited to see her.

Just before she arrived, our waitress had snuck by the table and slipped the girls light up Tinks and Buzz’s for the boys. I realized later that we were the only ones that got this “pixie dust” (usually reserved for dinner guests I think) and I was very touched by that.

You can tell Carter really loved his Buzz, he was very excited to tell Mulan all about it! She was fantastic too. She took her time with each one of the kids, deliberately posing for me to take pictures while she was talking to them and they didn’t even know it! I was impressed by that. She was so soft spoken and tender and she really spent time with Emily. I’m tearing up thinking about the special treatment she gave us, it was really wonderful.

I was hoping to see Sleeping Beauty or Ariel next, and I have to be honest, I was disappointed when I saw Mary Poppins. :headache: After all, she’s not really a princess, right?

But after meeting her, I’m so glad she was there. She ended up being my favorite (well, tied with Mulan anyway)!!! Brenna was immediately taken by her white lace dress and fancy hat, and couldn’t stop staring at her and following her around our table.

Watching Mary

More in the next post . . . . .

And then, the princess parade started and Mary took her and Carter by the hands and led them around at the head of the parade!

053.jpg

054-1.jpg

056.jpg

Drew followed along too. Unfortunately, Emily didn’t get to parade around because it was really crowded and it didn’t look like there would be enough room for her chair to fit around all of the people. There was a manager-type gentleman near me when I was trying to decide whether to take her around or not, and he was disappointed he couldn’t really help (I certainly understood- and Emily didn’t seem to mind, but it may be something for Disney to think about in the future).

After the parade, the princesses finished going around to the tables and we finished our food while they brought the pictures with Belle around. Mary Poppins came by our table just as they decided to have another parade, and Brenna whooshed off with her again! Lucky girl!
I’m so glad we went! It was expensive, but for the experience (not the food), it was worth it!

After our meal, it had warmed up quite a bit (probably approaching 60!) so we left our coats off, used the very clean Norway bathroom facilities, and headed over to see my buddy Figment!

057-1.jpg

058.jpg

I forgot to mention earlier, that my custom Epcot shirt featured Figment – I’ve always had a soft spot for him since he’s one of the most memorable icons from my childhood trips to WDW.

The CM at the entrance said there was no special entrance for wheelchair access for this ride, so we got in line. It was moving pretty well and it was fun looking at all of the funny things in the que. After waiting maybe 10-15 minutes we all got on the ride (with Emily right in her chair!) We all enjoyed it (even the smelly part!), the kids liked the interactive play activities on the way out and I got to cuddle with my little friend too!

Then, it was off to see Nemo and Friends! On our way there, I spied Chip and Dale greeting guests. Dh wanted to skip that, so we did. I knew we had limited time to finish everything we wanted to do in Epcot and still get to DHS with happy kids so I (kind of) let it go.

We saw the Nemo line up ahead but some guys next to us caught our attention first. A crowd started forming around us, and we were right in front to see the Jammitors! We love music, and the kids especially love drumming, so they thought it was great too!

If you watch the whole thing (about 3 1/2 minutes) you'll get to see Drew jamming and grooving along near the end!

Ok, now to Nemo! The line was long and the CM said there was not a separate wheelchair entrance for this ride either. But Gee-off wasn’t having that, so he asked another group of CMs and they told us to go in through the exit area of the Nemo gift shop/aquarium. Score!!

The stroller parking area was mobbed but we found a spot for the double and headed for the exit/entrance. When we entered we headed right for the Nemo ride and a nice CM took us right to the “secret” wheelchair entrance and got us right on. It was a moving walkway to get in the clamshells, so it was a bit tricky, but the CMs took Emily on and Gee-off hopped in with her, while I squeezed in with the others.

The ride was shorter than I expected, the characters on the screens were moving so fast and the sound level was hard to hear. I was a little disappointed, but so thankful we didn’t wait in the line for that!

Then we went right over to Turtle Talk with Crush. A CM met us at the entrance and took us right to the front of line for the next show. We only waited a few minutes to get in. Brenna sat right up front with the kids but Carter and Drew hung back with us and Emily. Once Brenna realized she was “alone”, she came back and sat with us too. I was bummed because I figured Crush would only talk to the kids on the floor, but it was a really cute show. Crush was funny, and the kids really enjoyed it! Emily started fussing during the show though, and I was worried she might get sick, so I went around the seats to ask the CM which doors to take her out of and by the time I got back to her, the show was over! I thought she was going to get sick again, but I think she was just tired of being in her chair and needed to be changed.

So, it was a perfect time to go check out the Epcot VIP lounge.

We knew it was in the base of Spaceship Earth, and there was a sign right at the entrance we happened to go in, but when Drew tried to open the door, it seemed locked. So we looked around for a CM and she led us right back to the door we had already tried!! Drew just hadn’t pulled hard enough! Another family (not a wish family, but an employee of Siemens) was entering right ahead of us so we didn’t get to type in our super secret code to unlock the door. :upsidedow

We took an elevator up to the 2nd floor and checked in, got some free drinks, let the kids walk on the colored floor (which didn’t change color while we there, but I think it was green), played with the touch screen on the wall, and took turns using the very nice bathrooms!

I think I must've been getting tired too, I have no pictures of Nemo area or the Epcot lounge!

The kids were starting to show signs of being tired, so we decided to head out of Epcot (it was about 2:30pm), and let them have a short rest on our way to DHS.

We got a quick PhotoPass pic on the way out and Emily was much happier here!! In fact, this is my favorite family PP picture of the whole trip! And the PP guy gave Drew a bunch more Mickey stickers for his class too! Thank you Epcot PP guy!

Photo0040FourBySix.jpg

Before we left, I was really hoping we would run into fellow DISer, Marv (Marvali), and his family. I didn’t see them, and when we compared notes, it seemed his family was most likely arriving just as we were leaving! We must have JUST missed each other!

Next update: An evening at DHS – who will get sick next? Seriously.

Very nice pictures - especially the ones at Norway, even the first one. :goodvibes

I'm so sorry Emily wasn't feeling well... I hope things get better but the bolded SERIOUSLY at the end is scaring me. :sad2:

I can't believe that you ADR was delayed by that long.. good move going to Mexico.

I loved all your princess pics from breakfast. Brenna looks so excited to see the princesses. princess:

How nice of that CM to give the kids the light up drink clips!

We had a chance to see the Jammitors too! I didn't realize they had a name! :lmao:

I'm glad you asked more than 1 CM about where to go for wheelchair access.

I hope you made it to DHS... :rolleyes1

Great update! :goodvibes

SO excited to see the update...it was definitely worth the wait! :goodvibes I loved all of the photos and seeing Belle in her Christmas gown was a treat for me as well. Thanks Tim. I added the video using the URL but had to link it through text. Still not sure how to get the still video to post so you can just click on that in my post? I will tell you that we do make it to DHS, but after that . . . :surfweb:

Thanks Judy, I feel bad I'm taking so long, I know all the future wish trippers are looking to get tips for their trips!! I loved Belle's Christmas dress too! Keep reading because we actually get to see her again, and again, each time in a different dress!

Lovin the pics!! The one of Carter grinning with the lipstick smooch on his cheek is PRICELESS!! pull that out in 20 years - lol!!! All your pics are GREAT!!:goodvibes

You are so right that those meals are more about the experience then about the food itself. I'm so glad that the meal was memorable for you guys, and that the princesses took special time with the kiddos. That makes all the difference in my opinion.

Some more really great updates! Love the smiles with all the princesses and I would be smiling big too with those lip prints on my cheek!!! Glad you had another fun day and once again I hate we didn't get to meet up. I looked very closely at my pictures of the entrance hoping to catch a glimpse of you guys in one of them. I know it was just about the same exact time...... :sad2:

Love you post so far! Several parts of it reduced me to tears- but what can I say, I cry at almost everything these days! Your family is so beautiful- what a wonderful trip you must have had!
