A Disney-addicted mom runs her first 1/2 marathon - Jan 2011 *update 1/11 Results!*

I signed up for my 1st 5K on November 14th. It's a benefit for prostate cancer through my DH's practice. I'm excited!
I ran 4.17 miles in 60 minutes yesterday. I also learned that I can run 4 miles in the time it takes to watch 1 Hannah Montana and 1 Little Einsteins episode. :lmao:
I need to start thinking about our trip and making plans. Need to check park hours and what-not.

Very exciting about your upcoming 5k! I've been trying to find a 10k so that we could submit a time to Disney but there aren't any in my area... I'm so excited you're staying at the Polynesian! It's my favorite. We're staying at BLT though so it's too bad you couldn't get the villa you were looking for!

Haha I love that you can time your running with disney shows. That's just hard-core!

I'm curious about BLT and I still wonder if that wouldn't be a better choice for my family. On the other hand I'm incredibly excited about our first CL stay!

Not so much hard-core as it is practical! ;) I need to do my long runs on Saturday morning while supervising Jessica and Zachary. They get to take turns choosing tv shows.

I had another spectacular week of not running at all. But I went 3.2 miles in just under 45 minutes this morning (one Little Einsteins and one Sonny with a Chance).

I'm excited to stay at BLT just because I never have before. We toured it last April and it's a beautiful resort but when it comes down to it, the Poly is my favorite resort! PLus club level will be awesome!

Haha, I love that you time your runs with Disney Channel shows! It's tough fitting those runs in.. I know there's plenty of days that I don't want to run and try to make excuses but I just force myself to do it. As soon as I walk in the door I change and put my running shoes on.. don't even give myself a chance to sit down. Of course it's easier for me since I don't have any kids and my job isn't really as exhausting as i'm sure yours is... But, just keep it up!

Sounds like you're doing great with the running time wise, even if you're not getting as many chances to run as you would like. Great job!

We've never had a bad stay at Disney. Saratoga Springs is my least favorite but only because of the bad bus service. Our room was gorgeous and so was the resort. And my kids loved the pool. I think that BC is high on my list because I love eating at Epcot and it's SO easy from there. We stayed a Poly a few years ago and I wasn't yet a Disney convert so I'm curious to see what I think this time!

Gotta keep the kids happy or I don't get to run! :thumbsup2

Thank you. I don't feel like I'm doing a great job so I appreciate the support!!!

I ran 1.75 miles in 25 minutes yesterday. I really didn't have it - whatever it is - but at least I ran.

I have many days like that. And you're totally right - it's all about getting out there and doing it, even when we don't feel like it. :cheer2:

Must update.
1st and foremost. I have to miss the 5k I was supposed to run next weekend. But for a good reason. On Wednesday night I'm flying to London so I can attend the World Premiere of Harry Potter 7, part 1.:banana::banana: I'm so excited I can barely contain myself. My brother lives in London and gets tickets to such events. And I'm going. Without DH or kids. :wizard:
I had a good run on Monday but haven't run since. I'll try a long run on Saturday morning. Last week I just didn't have it but this week feels better.

Need to start doing some trip planning. I looked at touring plans crowd calendar to help me figure out parks. We arrive on Thursday (1/6). I think we land around 9 or 9:30am. I figure we'll be at the Poly by lunchtime. We can snack in the CL and then head somewhere to lunch. Recommended parks are Epcot/AK. Avoid park is MK. I doubt we'll go to AK this trip so I'm thinking about heading to Epcot. Maybe a late lunch somewhere???? Thoughts????

Friday, 1/7. Recommended parks are AK and DHS. Maybe this will be a MK day for us. I need to think about a lunch ADR....

Saturday, 1/8. Half-marathon day!!! :cool1: Not sure how I'll feel after running. AK is the recommended park but I'm thinking we should head to MK after the race. Opinions?

Sunday, 1/9. MK/Epcot recommended and AK avoid. DHS is neutral. Thinking about DHS for Sunday. I feel like we need to be there at or close to rope drop to get FPs for TSM. Should we do DHS on Friday instead???

Monday, 1/10. Travel day but our flight isn't until 6:30pm. Maybe another Epcot day???

Amanda

Very cool that you get to go to London to see HP!! :thumbsup2 I can't wait until it comes out. I'll be taking my oldest to see it.

Is there another race you can do instead before the half?

I couldn't even keep reading. London? For Harry Potter? That is the coolest thing I have ever heard. AMAZING. I can't imagine how excited you are. I'm so excited for you that you would think I was going! :woohoo:

Amanda!!! We're all waiting to hear how the trip went! I took my 10 year old to see HP yesterday and we loved it. :thumbsup2

Sorry to leave everyone hanging like that. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed right now - work is insane, holidays are rapidly approaching, and I'm way behind in my training.

London was amazing!!!

The flight over sucked. I just don't do well on red-eyes anymore. The flight was bouncy and Iactually woke up and vomited during the night. The flight attendants were wonderful and I can highly recommend British Airways. Immigration and customs were a breeze. I swear my bag was the last one off the plane but I wasn't in a hurry. I hopped on Heathrow Express which rocks! I got a littled confused in Paddington Station which meant I walked around more than I needed to but finally figured it out.

My brother's place is cute. I forget how much you sacrifice in space to live in a city! The nanny fed me lunch and sent me to shower and sleep. After my nap it was time to get ready. The pouring rain was a bummer but I managed the tube (subway) in dress and heels. No cameras allowed! I met my bro at the cocktail party. It was mostly a business event for execs but everyone was nice to me. I don't think I realized how "important" my brother is!

We actually walked down the red carpet. It was so cool! Huge crowds hanging out to catch a glimpse of the stars. We saw a few cast members on the carpet (Mr. Weasley, for example) but none of the biggies. We sat in the theater for a long time. Finally there were speeches and then the movie. I loved it!

Friday I went to the British Museum by myself. Such a fabulous place!!! Saturday I did some shopping and then a dinner party. Sunday I flew home.

Amanda

Sounds like a very cool trip! And walking down the red carpet?? Wow! :thumbsup2

It was awesome! Really awesome!!!

I need help planning my trip please!
How do you get to Wide World of Sports to pick up the registration stuff? I heard somewhere that the only bus is from DHS? Is that true? If so, I guess I should make Friday a DHS day instead of going to MK????

Amanda

During Marathon Weekend there are WWOS busses that run from every resort. So if you are at MK just walk over to the Contemporary and catch a bus from there. Though the bus doesn't leave from the normal bus stop. The stop is over by the Contemporary Convention Center (at least that is where it left from last year.)
