Furniture from Big Lots?

Has anyone ever bought furniture from Big Lots? They have name brands (Ashley and Simmons), but I'm wondering if the quality is the same as a Simmons sofa from a "real" furniture store. Or is it a cheaper piece of junk that will fall apart in a year?

I'm not a brand-name snob by any means, but I'm having a hard time thinking about buying furniture at Big Lots. Ours is not a nice store... kind of dirty and run-down. I don't think I'd admit to friends where I got it. :rotfl:

I have been to dirty, run down Bit Lots, and very clean, very new ones.

When I was in college, we bought a few end tables and a tv stand there.
They held up for years :thumbsup2
I can't speak for couches though. Ashley is typically very inexpensive direct from them or in a furniture store- is it that much of a difference at Big Lots?

We just bought a new bed and mattress set there, and they are very nice, and the bed is very well made. Basically, from what we understood, what Big Lots has is either last years model/style or overstocks.

We bought a trundle bed that was going to be at our house, but moved to my Moms. The upper bed is a sleigh bed type and the bottom is a slide out trundle. The matresses are also from Big Lots. We bought it about 6 years ago and it looks new. My kids use it every Fri and Sat, just so you know useage. It was moved to my Moms because our house is smaller and my DH's home office was moved to the guest room instead of our lowest level, as we had planned. I would buy from them again, and have! My toddler has a Captains style bed (with drawers underneath) but its very low profile and good for a smaller drop if he rolls out of bed. Matress from Big Lots as we were happy wirth the others purchased. The toddler bed is not super high quality but will do well for the next few years untill we decide on his big boy set ordered from our local Amish community :)

We have a lot of furniture (mostly fluffy lounging chairs) from Big Lots and they are just fine. You are paying less because they are old stock or small quantity stock. If you can wait they will run double sales (20% off and the item on sale). They did this last month and we bought two chairs and we love them. So i would go for it. If you don't like your store see if there is another one in your area. I get a lot from them and haven't had any issues to date. They are also great for laptop cases and miscellaneous trinkets like curtain shears and simple curtain rods...

Hello, We just bought a leather coach from there and it is awesome! We love it. Great quality! :thumbsup2

We purchased an expensive double mattress for my then DD12, when we moved. Planning on her using it for a long time. We purchased it from HHGregg. The mattress was a total waste of money. Within a year it had broken down (coils) and my daughter sleeps in the "dip". HHGregg has been super helpful, but the "Big Name" company won't do a thing. So, just because it's Big Lots (which I love) doesn't mean it's not worth it!

Stupid question, but one I've always wondered about... If you buy furniture there, do they deliver?? I adore Big Lots, and have really wanted to take advantage of some of their furniture sales before, but our Big Lots is pretty understaffed and by the time I check out I've forgotten all about the furniture anyway.

We bought a sofa and loveseat from there about 6 years ago for the basement. The sofa had held up well until about a year ago, now it's kind of saggy. It got a TON of use from the kids and their friends so five years is about what I expect out of a piece of furniture like that so I'm satisfied, especially since it was only about $300 to begin with. The loveseat is in my DH's office and gets much less use and still looks brand new. Neither was a name brand.

I'd get another piece from there if I needed it. Our wrap-around sofa in our family room is Lane, ordered directly from the manufacturer and shipped from NC, and was kind of pricey. I can't remember how old that is but it didn't hold up as well as I expected so name doesn't mean everything. Would love to replace it but we're working on getting #3 through college right now so we will wait!

I believe some do have a delivery service available, we got some things delivered from Big Lotts and while the store didn't have an official delivery service they had someone who would deliver for them for a fee, I think it was about $30 or $40

We bought our DD8 and DD11's bunk beds there. I searched all over and they were the best price for the most affordable price. They have held up amazingly well (they are about 5 years old.) Wouldn't hesitate to buy from there again.

I am like you , I would like to take advantage of the great prices, I want a leather couch for the family room and don't want to spend a lot, but the store itself turns me off.
dirty, understaffed, and dirty outside where the furniture would come out.
I have seen people loading their trucks outside.
i just dont' know.
but my dh's co worker bought a leather couch there and he said it is fine, no complaints.
I may see if there is another one to check out.

Our microfiber living room recliner, couch and lounge are from Big Lots. They were originally sold at Ashley Furniture. As a pp said Big Lots gets in either last years models or furniture that they can no longer sell for whatever reason. Example: The truck delivering the furniture to the store was in an accident and the store got paid by the insurance company and therefore can not sell the furniture as new even though nothing is wrong with it. Our furniture is 4 years old and is holding up great. We saved a good bit by buying from Big Lots. The whole set was around 700.00.

It is not always easy to deal with Big Lots for the reasons stated but they bring you the "stuff" in a sealed box and you put it together. So don't really worry about how dirty the store may be. You can sign up on their website to send you emails of sales. You will get a week advanced notice of sales and that gives you a chance to plan ahead. Plus if you join their club (plastic card that tracks your purchases) they periodically will send you 20% off coupons. Last month we walked out of the store with two chairs and saved over $100 off the *sale* price. Was a very good deal in our opinion.

really? it is all in sealed boxes? even couches?
if that is the case I may rethink it.

Hi- We have a nice Big Lots by us that I now shop at monthly. Around this past Easter they had Thomasville furniture. I dragged my DH there and we bought a large burea and a large nightstand that was Bogart Collection Thomasville. We couldn't get over the deal. It is not the highest quality of Thomasville, but it is GORGEOUS.

I have bought a microfiber couch there and it has held up well. It did not come in a box, but overwrapped completely in thick plastic. I also bought a sleigh bed,and I believe it did come in boxes. I have had it around 6 years and it's still going strong. I wish I had bought the mattress there as well. I paid way too much at a big name store and then saw the same mattress for 40% less at Big Lots. Ours didn't offer delivery service themselves, but had cards of people they recommended.
