3 props to bring with you on a Disney Cruise

Just returned from a Disney Med cruise and loved it. Here are 3 things everyone should consider bringing with them for fun and pictures:

1) Santa Hat - for your christmas cards! There were 2 guys that had these on the boat and they could have paid for their cruise renting them out.

2) Pirate costume - for pirate night. This is one of the highlights of the Disney cruise and so much fun to get into. You can buy an ear ring and eye patch in the gift store and they give you a bandana. But lots of people were all dressed up for this and it was a blast.

3) Children's character costumes - be sure to bring your kids costumes for great pictures with the characters. (especially the princesses).

thank you for the water tip - we would never have thought of this - will add to the must do list - as i have just noticed a pack of 24 will set you back $35 - every little saving counts.

Water is one thing I plan on putting in the box that we are shipping down early. Less weight for luggage.:thumbsup2

Be very careful shipping water in a box to the ship. According to the FAQ at the top of the page you can not mail liquids to the ship. The following is a section of the FAQ and I believe it comes straight from DCL.

• NO FOODS/DRINKS OF ANY KIND, LIQUOR OF ANY KIND, FIREARMS, ETC.. Items that cannot be shipped to the Disney Cruise Line Warehouse and delivered to the ship include: food products (any and all food products including baby food/formula), beverages (liquor, water, etc.), chemicals, and luggage. These items will not be accepted at the warehouse and will be returned. This may cause the dogs to hit on your box and that would be a bad thing.

Technically, you're supposed to carry on water, but the porters will generally look the other way for a tip!

I have to agree with KSDisneyDad on this one. DCL requests that all liquids be carried on to the ship and not checked in or as luggage. Do the porters work for DCL? If not, they can pretty much do whatever they want. I just wish cruisers would follow the rules otherwise we run the risk of DCL discontinuing this perk.

We find the ships water to be just a good as any bottled water out there:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

It's nice to have bottled water for when in port.

Don't forget that $35 case of water also gets the 15% gratuity automatically added to the total. We didn't realize this and thought we were smart, splitting it with my parents. It was over $40 by then.

Now we just ask our driver for a grocery stop and carry it on. I'd hate to have it leak somehow and get people's luggage all soaked. Not a nice way to start a cruise. :headache:

I like to take a wide mouthed sports bottle that I can fill mostly with ice in the morning to take off the ship with me. The water is still cool when I get around to sipping at it a while later.

great idea! We usually don't use the bottles that come with our cc gift bag until we get home. They would be perfect for this.

Santa hats are a great idea. I saw someone doing that last year and bought some for this cruise. Now if I could just get my boys to stand within 3 feet of each other for a nice photo. :rolleyes1

Why not carry one bottle per person on board (or even empty ones since they're lighter), and refill from the purified water (maybe more so than your bottle water) on board? Still gives you bottled water while in port.

Why pay for a case of water (plus tip) when the purified water on board is free?

ETA: I see someone else had a similar idea :thumbsup2

I am very picky about my water and the water on DCL was great! We plan on either using the ones we get in our CC gift bag or buying one bottle each in Key West to refill to use for the rest of the trip.

I have heard you cal also get a pitcher of ice water through room service to have in your cabin.

Also - for the PP that was going to ship the water, did you check on that cost? I am thinking that would be expensive as well, due to the weight.

Great idea about Santa hats!! And I'm hoping we'll be able to find some pirate stuff on sale after Halloween. I, too, am very fussy about the taste of water, and I think the water on DCL is awesome - much better than most bottled water. And for mother earth, please give up your disposable bottles :flower: You don't want to ingest that plastic anyways that leaches into your water.

The water out of the spigot in your room is delicious, and there is no charge. It makes me crazy to think that people actually pay money for a bottle of water. Sheesh. We have sports bottles we fill, but you can just as easily have one used bottle and keep refilling it. Try to think of the $1 cost as buying the bottle, not the water.

I've always wanted to set up a table next to the one Disney has when you board selling cases of water (and people actually buy them!). I'd sell a single bottle of water for $1, and offer refills in my stateroom any time for a quarter.
