13.1 Before I Hit 40 - Running my 1st 1/2 Marathon at Disney uptd 09/30

I really believe in you, Crissy! YOU CAN DO IT! You've worked hard and are determined, so I think that last 3 miles will come easily with the extra excitement of being in Disney. Don't worry!

So HAPPY you're feeling more like yourself- that will go a long way in your run too!

To quote whatever Adam Sandler movie it's from:

YOU CAN DO IT!

The Waterboy? Billy Madison? Happy Gilmore? Eh...they all become one big movie.

Wow - I wouldn't have gone anywhere really either after being that drenched. Glad you go home before the water got any high by your car. :scared1:

You may be amazed at yourself after you run the ten miles, those last three may seem like nothing to you. Either way, just enjoy it.

I did my 10 miles this morning, and was oh, so close to hitting the time limit. I managed to average 16.22 min. miles. I did lose a minute or two when I ran into someome I knew. By the end I was still feeling really good walking, but when I tried to run my calves were protesting mightly. The last two or three miles I pretty much walked. Had I forced myself to run my intervals I might have made it.

The gap between 10 miles and the 13 I'm doing in 2 weeks seems huge. Next week I only have to do 5. At any rate I'm happy with what I've done so far.

I'm thinking that was the Waterboy, or maybe Happy Gilmore. Your right they are just one big movie. I will confess Happy Gilmore is my favorite though. I love the Bob Barker scene.

The funny thing was as soon as I got in my car the rain just about stopped. It was a crazy flash flood. I've never really seen anything like that before.

Man, that's awesome that you did 10 miles. I would've never made it. We just spent the day walking around the Toronto Zoo (which is probably about the size of Epcot except without a giant lake in the middle and HILLY, and my feet were beat. I couldn't imagine doing 10 miles in a row.

Think of it this way, the gap between 10 and 13 miles is SMALL compared to gap of when you started your training and 13 miles! :thumbsup2

I don't know what it was, but Saturday was the complete opposite of that awful day I had a few weeks ago. It felt wonderful out there. I felt like I could have walked for ages. I haven't even felt any aftermath from it either, which is surprising. Just a tiny bit of achiness, but really practically unnoticeable. I think I was amazed at how far I got going 10 miles. Was a bit shocked that I made it to the next town over. I was actually thinking afterwards that I'd like to keep up the walks once I'm done. Maybe not 10 miles every week, but a good portion of that would be great.

Good for you! I agree...don't stop! (It's hard when winter sets in, though!)

You are doing absolutely wonderful! :thumbsup2 I think you will be more than ready when you get there.

Here's a hint for the water tables. If there is a crowd, don't stop. There are lots of people handing out water, usually on both sides of the road. Just walk around the crowd and there will be more water people.

I have a friend like your BFF who went with me in January. I had to do all of the planning. We each chose two restaurants to eat at, yet when we got to one of her choices she would ask, "oh what do they serve here?" Ummmm, you asked to eat here, you don't know? :lmao:

The route I ran this weekend was just beautiful. It was right along the shoreline. Last year it was a favorite of mine, but this year I'd been avoiding it because since it's along the water it was just too hot this summer. I kept thinking to myself how much more I would have enjoyed it if I could have just stopped and walked in the sand for awhile. I can't wait to go back and walk there when I can fully enjoy the scenery.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be able to do it. Hopefully the atmosphere will get me amped up.

Thanks for the water tip too!

That's too funny. I haven't gotten that from my BFF yet. :rotfl: Of course I don't want to give her any ideas either.

:yay::yay:4 Days!!! :yay::yay:

I've never left for my vacation on a weekday before, and it feels really funny to realize that on Friday I'll be in Disney World. It's only one day, but for some reason it feels so much sooner than Saturday. I'm weird, I know.

After a bunch of thought I chose not to put in any kind of room request, or use online check-in. I was going to ask for an upper level room with a full balcony, but I'm just going to see what comes up. Go with the flow. :thumbsup2 I am however debating on changing my seat on the plane. Right now I have a prime spot in row 5 on the way down. (I can be at the ME counter before everyone is off the plane. :)) I keep getting nervous about fitting my carry on in the overhead. The flight wasn't anywhere near full the last time I checked last week, but the front of the plane was. I'm sure there will be room for my bag, but if they go stick it in the back of the plane I won't get off any faster than if I just sat toward the back anyways. I did a test run, and there is no way I can use just the personal bag as I would have liked. Stupid running shoes take up way too much space.

I've been looking at the weather forecast and it's been making me a bit nervous. Friday they are calling for thunderstorms, and Saturday they are calling for rain. (Actually most days rain is on the forecast). This is Florida, so I'm not overly worried about the daily rain, but I'm really hoping there is no rain during the marathon. I had rain during the 10K I did back in June, and it wasn't any fun at all. I have to be sure to bring a cap to keep the rain out of my face at any rate. On the other hand is that the one day there is no rain in the forecast is our pool/MNSSHP day. I'll be very unhappy if I have to cover up my costume with a poncho. :sad1:

I've been getting even more nervous about the race, but I keep trying to push it to the far edges of my mind. I have very mixed feelings on the whole thing, and am very glad that the race is at the beginning of my vacation so it will be over one way or the other. Then I can clear my mind, and focus on having some fun.

I think I finished up the last of my errands this weekend, and all I really need to do is put everything into my suitcase. A few t-shirts need to be ironed a bit, but otherwise I'm good to go. I have however run into a bit of a shoe problem. I had planned on bringing my new Keds with me as my secondary park shoes, but after wearing them around the Big E fair last Thursday I'm going to have to come up with a plan B. I don't know if Keds has changed the design of their sneakers, but after wearing them just a short time walking around the fair I was in utter agony. I've worn Keds for years, and never had my feet hurt like that. I was trying to hide it as much as possible, but my mother picked up on the fact that I was limping. I was very close to taking up my father's offer to hop in the wheel chair that we had rented for him for the day. Luckily I had brought my Crocs athens flip flops with me, so after limping back to the car I was able to change my shoes. Once I changed my shoes I was okay for the rest of the day, although the neuroma in my left foot has been bothering me off and on since. Hopefully it won't end up being an issue at the marathon. I'm debating on if I can take the Crocs for a day at Disney. They felt fine at the Big E, but we were really taking it slowly for my father. Disney is much more taxing. My other choice is a pair of LL Bean water/sand shoes that I have. They are actually really comfortable, and great if it rains. (All the water drains right out - no sloshy shoes).

How are you today? You only have 7 days to go!!!!!:cool1:

I can't believe that it's almost time to go. I've been so busy, that it almost snuck up on me. :goodvibes

I know this was a week ago, but I'm hoping you're still feeling great! It's so close and know we'll be sending good vibes for you with the run.

I am still feeling pretty good. I'm a bit tired, but nothing like what I was feeling like before. :)

Earlier this week I found out from another thread on the Disboards that the photopass cards that they leave in your room when you are celebrating a special event have a discount code on the back that you can use along with the pre-sale deal on the photopass cd. I've spent the past week searching for our card from my December trip, but no dice. My friend had been using that card, and she didn't keep it. :sad2:

I'm going to put a request out if any of my readers can help. I have a special celebration on my ressie this trip, but if I wait until I check in I'll lose out on the presale deal. If anyone has a code they didn't use, or if they have one I could use, I'll give them the code that I get once I check in. (A bit of a trade). Let me know! I could really use the extra 20% off along with the presale.

Dang! I wish I could help you, Crissy!, but I tossed it before I even left the room the first time I saw it. I hope someone can come through in time!!! If I don't catch you before Friday, have a really great run/walk- I have every confidence in you that you can finish, and finish WELL!!!

I have a photopass card from our last trip that I didn't use, it came with a birthday card for DD and it says "commemorative celebration edition" on it, but it doesn't list any sort of discount code anywhere on it, just the regular 16 digit photopass code. Is that what you need, or is there a separate code? I can give you this by PM, but I don't know that it will help. I can also check in my April 2010 trip folder at home tonight, and see if I saved that - we didn't use the photopass card in our room back in April because we didn't bother with photopass.

Thanks. I'll be thinking of all of you along those 13 miles.

From my understanding it should have a line like - "to help you celebrate save 20% on any one order...". on the it with a code of some sort. It may be the same as the 16 digit photopass code - I saw someone on the budget board post that up and the person who used it said it worked. I only have the Mickey card that was left in our room with the photopass and it mentions the discount, but my friend ended up using that photopass around the parks. If you have one, I'd really appreciate it. :)

Is there any way to bring the Crocs and the sandals? A bunch of my friends swear by the Crocs, but I've never used them. I tend to bring three pairs of gym shoes (all running shoes - either Asics or Mizumnos) with me and rotate those.
