Laid back planners.... where ya at?! *DESPERADOS UNITE!*

Thanks...cookies to me are one of the finer things in life..I like those shirts that say "come to the dark side, we have cookies" . I figured to the commandos, we are the dark side.:lmao:

It just makes me so sad when see people say " we'll get these attractions out of the way"...like it's a chore.:confused3

I totally agree, Disney shouldn't feel like a chore. I hate that they have most of the people trained on here to think they have to do Disney Commando style. I hope the Desparado's take off big time. Just think how much calmer of a place Disney will be. :cloud9:

I admit that I will do commando first thing in the morning. That usually entails two rides and a couple of fastpasses and then I'm done. If I dislike anything worse than too much planning, it's waiting in long lines.

So I'd say that 1 hour a day, 2 tops can be commando and the rest not. This hour or two still doesn't involve planning though because we know where to head first thing.

Wow, I go on vacation and you guys get a mascot! Love it!!!

Gotta make room for him in my sig somehow. :upsidedow

To clarify this for everyone: You are likely a Desperado and have been misled.

There are 4 personalities common to WDW: The Desperado, The Commando, The JerkBag, and the dreaded Commando-Jerkbag.

JerkBag: Shouts / says inappropriate things at a child-centric park.
I CAN'T GET A BEER IN THIS PLACE? WHO'S FANTASY IS THIS LAND?

Commando: Laminates brochures, uses GPS to get from it's a small world to Peter Pan, has 5 minute travel time between sights. Curses CM's who can't move the fastpass line along fast enough. Is yanking screaming child from the arms of Pooh because you must have a picture with every character in 1 minute or less.
My reception is down to 1 bar I can't get coordinates for the castle, my laminate has gone foggy, we have to ask a cast member MOVE MOVE MOVE MOVE.

Commando-Jerkbag: Has gone full circle and has crossed the streams. The children are crying, the wife is screaming, the surrounding guests are in awe.
WHY CAN'T I GET A SIGNAL ON MY IPAD? I PAID FOR A SIGNAL AND LAMINATED MY IPAD SO WE COULD HAVE A GOOD TIME. WHY AREN'T YOU HAVING A GOOD TIME AND WHY CAN'T I GET A BEER HERE? I RESEARCHED IT AND DON'T UNDERSTAND.

Desperado: Enjoying a Coke Float. May have an ADR. Can ask for directions calmly. Can follow instructions. Will survive any situation after slapping the other personality types.
Nice job they did with that Coke Float. You wanna do the Haunted Mansion again or head over to see the bears?

You'll notice in the below chart that 75% are actually Desperado. They lean left or right, a little commando, a little jerky, but acceptable in most parts of civil society. Then you have those extremists that most people want to throw up a little over. The extremists are just two sides of a coin and when they meet in the middle, security is usually called in.

I've been amazed at some of the spreadsheets I've seen....:confused3:confused3

I've seen less detail and more room for error in major tactical operations write ups...:rotfl2:

Wow, is all I can say....:upsidedow

So glad to have stumbled across this thread!!!! When we first started going regularly, I used to be a Commando of sorts... I would plan everything for everyday and felt pressured to stick to the plan to pack everything in so we didnt miss a thing....Those days are long gone!!!! Now, I plan a few ADRs at some of our favorite places, and mostly take the trip one day at a time. We do what we feel like, when we feel like..... we wake up whenever we wake up...We have been known to spend a day here and there not even going to a park, but instead lounging around the hotel!

Please keep in mind that Desperados are not lazy, rather some things are just not that important to us. Please remember the Pirate Queen (OP) was "laid back", not lazy. We are leisurely, not sloths, and Captains need to uphold the high standards of our moral turpitude.

While we are perfectly capable of acquiring things via alternate methods, we are not savages and would only do so when appropriate. I prefer to say we are "resourceful" and able to adapt to the situation as required.

Even pirates have "guidelines".

I fully agree with the above definition. I want to say I am a commando, but not in the sense that they define it on this board. I am type A/B all the time but B when I'm on vacation or in a park. When I'm in the park, there is a good chance I do not like many of the commando families, and usually it is one member that is commando and forcing the others to have a borderline un-enjoyable time at disney.

They are the rushers, the pushers, the move up to the front of the parade line, ram my stroller in front of you, "My Disney vacation is more important than yours" people.

I PROPOSE THE RISE OF THE "DESPERADOS". They have a name, we should have a cooler name because we are laid back and having a better, unscripted, relaxed time where we can laugh and not worry that the country bear jamboree starts in 5 minutes.

If you enjoy taking the park as it comes along.

If you enjoy saying, hey look the line is short there, let's do that now instead.

If you like showing up with your AP just to ride [insert favorite ride here] get an ice cream cone and leave.

If you're willing to skip the parade and/or fireworks and catch it next time.

If you feel that there will be an awful war for leadership between various commando factions.

If you're willing to defend a CM's honor when they are being berated by a commando.

If you feel psycho dad needs a frozen coke over his head to cool off.

I submit that you are a DESPERADO.

I also propose an Alien Green Home Depot Mickey with an eyepatch for our flag.

All in favor say ARRRRRRRRRRRR pirate:

I'm in! ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Pirate Queen (OP)

:banana::rotfl::rotfl2:

That's my nickname, it's official. I might force my DH to call me that while we're at WDW in FIVE DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Ok, I won't really force him, but it's definitely going in my sig.)

I totally agree with this. I'm allowed to make a to-do list to get my house & life ready to be on vacation.

The other day, I decided to look at the EMH on allears, just for grins. (or maybe it was here on dis?)... and I got totally overwhelmed and had to hit emergency eject (the x button at the top right hand corner).

I refuse to be overwhelmed by my vacation.

However, I'm forced to be overwhelmed by the amount of cleaning that needs to be done before Sunday morning when our house sitter shows up :scared1:

The moment I step on that plane I'll be in full desperado mode. :woohoo:

I'm a very low key planner and relatively new Disney fan compared to the experts here. But I love coming here for advice, tips and just general info. And even if I am not a planner, the info from the folks here has enriched our experiences with each trip since I've been visiting.

Here is our typical "planning"

"Do you have any rooms left at a Deluxe resort the week after next? Ok, we'll take that. Dining plan? Never tried it before but, ok, you convinced me."

"Hello, reservations? I'm trying to find some place to eat dinner on March 16. Yes, I know it's March first. We just decided to make the trip yesterday. Ok, sure, that sounds good. We'll take that. Do you have any breakfasts? No, any day between the 15th and the 20th would be fine. Characters? ok! Oh, you have two choices for me. Umm...which one would you choose? ok! Sure, that will be fine..."

"Look, there is no wait for that. Let's do it."

"40 minute wait, no problem, I can check my email"

"What should we do now? I don't know. What do you want to do?"

"The girls want to sleep in. Don't worry, we'll get to the park by noon."

We basically just wander around with no concrete plan and no expectations and we have a great time.

My husband is a little more toward Type A than the rest of the family, but at WDW he's happy doing anything!

LOL - Love the nickname & I love that you put it in your signature!!:goodvibes

Guess we'll all have to change our signatures to put Pirate so & so. :rotfl:

As I told Mickeysaver (who I hope is having fun despite the rainy days), I live nearby. If I head to the parks, I'll keep an eye out for your LGMPH. Who could give up an opportunity to meet the Queen! ;) Aaaarrr, me majesty. LOL.

Hey Meanest Mom - I feel bad just typing that. :rotfl: Welcome! Don't forget to add your Desparado Mickey. Pineapple Whip's got instructions listed on one of the pages.

I'm not sure if I'm truly fit to be Desperado. I did double our number of ADR's this year. We have two this time.

:rotfl2::thumbsup2

We have one! But its only because I wanted to eat at Chef Mickey's for good photo ops :) and I got it last week when they opened a ton of lunch ADR slots. LOL.
