That's kinda true. When the wonder rescued somebody the news mainly featured that Carnival couldn't rescue it's own passenger.

That is wonderful that they were found and are safe. Who better to be rescued by than a Disney Cruise Ship!?! Truly Magical!

Can you imagine how surreal it must feel to the rescued people? One minute you're in a leaky dingy old fishing boat, and a then you're on a luxury cruise ship with a bunch of kids and a giant mouse. Especially if you didn't know much about Disney, it must be a very strange sight indeed!

WOW what a week these people are having...........LOST at sea and now they are on a Disney Cruise.............

I wonder what they will wear to formal night?????? Just kidding!

Seriously though how crazy it must be.......it probably is like one big dream for these people, the scare of a life time being lost at sea and now they are on this CRAZY HAPPY MAGICAL SHIP..........

I want to know why the first ship didn't just recue them But great going DISNEY MAGIC. It show that DISNEY still has heart.

Hearing people in the water and being able to rescue them are 2 totally different subjects.It all comes down to luck.The other ship may have heard them, but couldnt see them, even though they were looking.Its tough to find someone at night in the ocean by sound.Especially if there are any type of waves.I work for an FD, and we had a similar situation in a lake.It took us a few minutes to pin down where the person was, and I was standing on shore with a light, before we pinned his location down to be able to go get him with the boat.

That is amazing.....and this is not the first time the Magic has come to the aid of people in need.

We were on the Magic years ago on a caribbean cruise and we had to stop to offer aid to a very small rowboat that had 4 or 5 adult men and young boy. It was very sad to see them bobbing around in the boat with tattered clothing but because of Coast Guard regulations (we were told) we could not bring them aboard. We tied up to the rowboat and CM's were tossing water and food in their boat but we had to wait for the CG to come. When CG ship came the refugees got very nervous and were jumping in the water to get away. They were picked up the CG vessel and we brought the rowboat onboard. It was sad as we heard that they had fled Cuba and were lost at seas without supplies for a few days and were most likely now headed back there.

The short version as I understand it, is that due to relations with Cuba, if a Cuban refugee is found at sea, they are to be returned to Cuba.If they touch land (I dont know if a ship qualifies) then they are allowed to say.Which explains why they jump when a CG cutter comes on scene.

And that other ship probobly didn't have good search and rescue training like the Disney ships do. Remember when the carnival passenger fell everboard and Carnival was too unprepared to help him and disney had a life boat out in the water almost imediately and to find him at night they told everyone on the ship to be quiet so they could hear the mans screams. That is true Disney MAGIC!

I was on the Wonder when we picked up Carnivals MOB.It didnt have anything to do with Carnival being unprepared.It had more to do with the way the Wonder came on to the scene, as we were closer.It was easier for us to pick him up then the Carnival.If Carnival had issues, it was more mechanical then incompetence/training. All ships, that depart US waters, must pass the same training standards from the US Coast Guard.They must also train a certain number of times of year, as part of the SOLAS regulations.

If I remember correctly some one on the Carnival ship mentioned that while they were watching them try and rescue the guy they couldn't get a lifeboat into the water. they said it got all tangled up in it's own ropes. And i only metioned it because they news people didn't only mention that disney rescued him but that carnival didn't rescue their own passenger.

Theres several different versions Ive heard of from what happened from onboard the Sensation.

Ive heard everything from they sunk the rescue boat, to they tangled the lines ( which I cant see happening since they are steel, and they are in hauling blocks that keep them spearated)to the ship was moving when they tried to launch the boat.Ive even heard that they dumped the rescue boat upside down, and dropped their own crew in the water.
Ive also hear that the crew ran around with flash lights looking for the MOB, and that the searchlights on the Sensation werent working properly.

In a situation like that, rumors are a dime a dozen as the average person, doesnt have access to the decision making process, and doesnt know the whole story, or heard something that overtime gets changed, due to the number of people involved.Its like playing telephone.

As a comparison, there was a fire prior to the start of a World Series Baseball game, I think in Atlanta, a few years ago. The fire started in a enclosed suite, and the fire crews came in thru a back door, and were in the stadium, putting the fire out.Some of the burning debris, had fallen on to the stands below, and was burning for a few minutes, before and engine and truck come out on the field, and put out what was in the stand.

The news caster that was supposed to be broadcasting the pregame events went on for a while on how long it took for the FD to put out the fire in the stands, and that they werent there etc.He didnt know that they were already working, and that it takes a few minutes to get a engine into position, to get into the stadium to do there job.It takes longer if there is no one around and we have to "unlock" a gate ourselves.

Thats what happens when the uninformed make statements with out all of the facts.(Im not directing it at you)Those of us that do know, and saw and heard the comments first hand, were asking how long he was going to run his mouth, when we could see water coming out of the suite, and even one line lobbing water out from the suite,to the debris below.
Same thing with the Sensation. I wasnt on the bridge, and dont know what they did or didnt do.But from all news accounts, and the fact I was on deck 10 when I saw the Wonders boat pick up the MOB, less then 100 feet from the ship, we were closer.

I heard Carnival tried to pick them up but they said they'd rather wait for Disney.

Geesh, some folks will do anything for a free cruise.

Silly question: Does rescueing all of these people slow your cruise down? Are you able to still go to all of your destinations and stay for the set amount of time or does it cut into your cruisetime.
