So I was all set to book our flights for our first week of September trip (it was a last minute idea). They went up on both ends this morning.:headache: I know it was stupid to wait.. trust me.
Now for the question.. should I wait until mid week next week to see if they come back down? Or bite the bullet and book at this higher fare? Typically they seem to be higher on the weekends, but I don't know that they'll come back down. One leg was Southwest, the other was Delta.

What would you do?

You could always book now - at least on Southwest. Check back mid-week, if the fare has gone down, you can "rebook" and get a credit for the difference.

The credit is only good for a year so this wouldnt be a good plan if you werent planning to fly on Southwest again within the year.

I dont know how Delta works.

I booked our flights on Southwest for October back in May. The fare was higher than I wanted to pay but I knew that we would be flying Southwest again in March. I have since "rebooked" the Southwest flight 3 times. Once with a $25 coupon, once when they dropped the price of my outgoing flight to $73, and yesterday when they dropped the price of my return flight to $99. The difference in savings resulted in a credit balance almost enough to cover the same flight for another family member.

Now I am waiting for a DING fare and if I can save some more.... I'll "rebook" again.

Ok, when I booked our airfare last year I was given advice my pros! There were a few people at work that fly all the time.

They told me to get up early mornings and even check it in the middle of the night.
I was also told that prices are lowest tuesday early mornings.

I ended up booking mine at 8:30am on a saturday morning. The price was down a lot. It had been I think 104 and I got it for 78 each way. So just keep checking. I would give it a few more days and check at weird hours.

Of course, you're always taking a gamble if you wait. That's just how airfare works. :headache: I know, so frustrating.

Thank you for the replies!
I think i will wait a few more days and see if it drops a little more. If it hasn't dropped by next weekend I will book. I will be checking all hours until then :rolleyes1

good thinking, they will come back down! have no fear :) i've noticed tuesdays, wednesdays and thursdays show the lowest fares. some people say mondays too. so give it a shot! :)

The Bing fare watcher predicts an 80% chance of them dropping again. So that makes me feel a bit better:)
