Fanny packs and sandals/flip flops?

Hello life saving experts of WDW! My sister and I are spending a week at the World and US in late August. I've read a lot about not being able to take bags on to rides-- but if by some miracle I pack small and can fit everything into a fanny pack, will they let me take that on? (As a side note, I was at Six Flags a few weeks ago and had a tiny shoulder purse I was able to slip down my pants before getting on rides and they let me on, LOL. Would that work?)

Second question! Would you recommend wearing sandals to the parks? I have a pair of AMAZING Columbia thongs, the high quality $70 kind. I can't imagine having my feet cook in running shoes all day, so would it be smart to just bring these? Will they fly off during rides?

I have never had a problem bringing my purse on rides or a small messenger bag, I think only Rock n Rollr Coaster I had to put in in a locker.
And I only wear flip flops to WDW! I wouldn't recommend cheapies, but I wear Adidas Ayunas, or Teva Mush. If yours are comfortable and broken in, I would think you'll be good. (Maybe pack your sneaker just in case to alternate?) Also, never had them fly off my feet, I think the only ride you'd have an issue is soarin', but just leave them on the ground, you'll be reunited with them before you get off the ride. And be careful if the ground is wet, (after rain, near splash mountain, etc) as I find I trip very easily in flip flops when the ground is wet and there's really nothing there to support your foot or ankle. Not sure where your read that you couldn’t bring bags on the rides at WDW, but you absolutely can.

Shoes – bring the sandals, but bring another pair of shoes just in case your comfy sandals don’t turn out to be that comfy after all when walking for hours on end. They shouldn’t fall off on any rides. Sum of all Thrills at EPCOT will make you remove them – I took mine off for Soarin’ because I was too paranoid they’d fly off.

I take a backpack with me into the parks and on any rides like RnR where it may be tricky, I just slip my feet through the straps and put it between my ankles. It doesn't budge.

I regularly wear a fanny pack on rides and have never had a problem at either Disney park. The only thing I've ever had to do is either slide my fanny pack up or down in order get a restraint down on a ride. No CM has ever said anything about not being able to wear one.

I could never deal with roasting feet either. I think the biggest thing is having shoes that will support your feet for several hours of walking. On a recent trip to the World, I bought a pair of Croc flops and they are amazing in terms of support. They may be ugly, but I love them and don't think I will ever wear anything else. You know your feet best, so wear what will support you.

Yeah some of the Universal (not Disney) rides require you to put stuff in a locker (free for duration of ride), like the HP Forbidden Journey ride.

Never had a problem on any Disney ride with a bag.

If you're used to wearing flip-flops (and walk a lot in them), bring 'em. You can leave them on the floor at rides like Soarin (they encourage you to), same with any big bag. Other than that, you'll be fine!

I think that was meant specifically about Soarin' -- the loading/unloading point aren't always the same with other rides.

No, it's even better than that. I'm not sure you are getting the bag policy at Disney World. Anything you have with you in the line queue will go on the ride with you. You do not leave anything behind. So, whatever size backpack, shoulder bag or fanny pack you have, it will be with you for the entire time. Many Disney rides will have a holder in which to put your bag. For those that don't you just simply leave it at your feet (if you have a strap on the bag, it's best to put your foot through the strap for extra insurance). Disney does not have lockers near the attractions where they make you store your things. Disney is extremely user friendly when it comes to bags and rides. You have nothing to worry about there. Take what you think you need in whatever bag you want and you won't have any issues at all.

As for shoes, I've seen women in just about everything. Wear what is comfortable and don't worry about it at all. The PP just wanted to make sure you knew that at Soarin', if your shoe could come off your foot at all, you will be asked to leave the footwear on the ground before your ride vehicle takes to the skies. Your bag will be airborne with you.

I just want to agree with everyone else -- wear whatever shoes you are comfortable in (I have seen women walk around the park in high heels all day but if that is what is comfortable for them -- I couldn't do it!)

If you do wear flip flops, make sure you apply sunscreen to the exposed part of your feet. I know my feet are paler than the rest of me and burn faster – then there are no options for shoes!

And yes, I also take my backpack on every ride I go on -- just hold it between my feet.

I'm another flip flop wearer. If you wear them regularly and they are comfy to you- I say go for it. I agree about how hot it sounds to wear tennis shoes. Just bring a couple pair in case you find one doesn't work very well.

My Vera Bradley hipster bag has been on pretty much every ride at WDW, including RNR. I single ridered RNR and the guy sitting next to me had a backpack with him. I wouldn't bring a "big" bag because I wouldn't want to lug it around.

Wear whatever shoes you can walk long distances in without any problems. I can't walk in flip flops that long without getting blisters or my feet hurting. I would suggest bringing at least a couple of pairs of shoes which are comfortable for walking because you may want to switch off. I find my feet sometimes do better when I alternate, and we have also had the situation at WDW where it poured rain all day to the point where our shoes were still soaked the next day. (By the way, according to the 30 and under crowd- which is not me- we can't call them thongs anymore. Thongs are underwear only now. )

I am a back pack/ flip flop wearer and I have never had a problem. My back pack is a normal sized bag and I have never had a problem. Like others have said, on some rides I stick my foot through the strap so it doesn't budge. I have taken a bag on every ride at Disney!

You should have no problems with either small fanny pack or similar and good thongs if your feet are used to them. Agreed that you should have a back-up pair of shoes just in case.

The CM at Soarin' made our granddaughter remove her flip-flops & put them in the restraining bag under the seat. Maybe if she were an adult rather than a 10 year-old the CM would have only suggested, not required, that they be stowed away.

Depending on how waterproof your bag is you might want to pack a zip lock bag large enough to slip it into to for wet rides like Kali River Rapids. There is a center storage area on that but I like to keep my stuff close.

On Space Mountain I kept my glasses on & they were fine. (My neck wasn't fine after the ride but that's another story...) My DH took his glasses off and put them in a pocket. They flew out at some point during the ride. Miraculously they were found & we recovered them.

I usually bring sneakers and flip flops. I wear my sneakers earlier in the day and then switch to my flip flops for evening. I've never had a problem bringing any bag on a ride, but have started bringing smaller and smaller bags to the parks....this year I plan to only bring a VB ID holder on a lanyard for some cash and my KTTW card....less is better!

This is a serious statement. I do not understand why anyone would have so many "have ta takes" that a backpack is required. I admit I see it everywhere, including the parks, but I just don't understand what would be so important that I would be willing to lug that stuff around in the heat all day long. If I can't fit what I need in my wallet...I don't need it. My digital camera is small and has a belt holster and I don't even like hauling that around.

If I go to a place like Disney, I just budget for water, snacks, etc. I don't want to carry anything with me. I suppose if ones clothing doesn't have pockets it is somewhat necessary, but never more than a fanny pack. (Don't like carrying those either) I will admit that if you have small children then there are needs that as a solo I wouldn't have, but that is why I never went there until they were self-contained, so to speak.

To each his own, I guess, but I really don't understand.

Disclaimer: I do understand medical needs...I'm talking about the average person.

I carry a giant camera backpack onto every ride except Soarin, where it is too big to fit into the small compartments. We don't do a lot of the coasters, so I imagine I'd need to leave it with the CMs for those as well, but the non-coaster rides are all fine having it between my feet, and it is about three times bigger than a purse.
