Where did this heat and all these people come from? The new PTR/TR link 5/7

:rotfl2: glad Beth was there again to help you with your salad!!
Yes, you did notice a new ticker....end of October...just missing everyone :sad2: It is a relatively "free" trip with my DVC points, miles for the flight and an AP so how could I resist? :rotfl:
You have so many great PP pictures!! Can't wait for you to share some more.
Ohhhh I love the Streetsmophere performers! They are so much fun and they are always cracking me up!

Tracy

More great pictures-- that pork looks TDF! I know what you mean about eating alone-- cuts in half the things you get to eat!!
That's disgusting about the little girl and her mom. You wonder how people who think things like that can be good parents.

My goodness, I am very behind. I am only up to page 11. How are you already on page 21?

Going back to catch up

Welcome!! :goodvibes
Lot's of chatter...use the links if you aren't interested!

I sometimes sleep through the GMR -- I know the story so well now. ;)

I doubt we'll go back to BD. We've decided mostly against signature restaurants because we have so many fine dining establishments in Chicago and I don't like sitting for 2 or 2-1/2 hours for a meal (and I'm not a fancy food eater). We were just very disappointed in our service at BD (five tables occupied the entire time there and we were there for over 2 hours because our waiter could have cared less; I had to send my meal back twice and Mark hated that grapefruit cake). I do want to try Artist Point and Yachtsman...but that's about it. We like Sci Fi for lunch and/or Mama Melrose--we're not big fans of the food at the Studios.

Where in Iowa are you? My son is at school in Dubuque.

Not much in the way of fine dining where I live so I'm glad for any excuse. Sorry your experience wasn't great. I actually had a pretty lousy server (I think she was new) In fact, later in the trip I realized we were short on dining credits and when the concierge pulled up my account, she charged me for double credits (a strange accounting system where a 1 quantity at signature dining automatically is 2 credits...she charged me a quantity of 2 which charged me 4 credits) Thank goodness I had kept my receipt and they fixed it for me!

I am in central Iowa (about 1 hour out of Des Moines) Beth however lives very near Dubuque, such a pretty town!

I heart Brown Derby! I have had so many amazing meals there! I have also had the pork dish and you are right it was to die for...so yummy! Wish I could have that for lunch today!!!!

Love your DHS pictures! I really want to spend an entire morning just interacting with the Streetsmophere people some day!!!

YAY for cowboy scene!! GMR is one of my faves, but I could see where some could take it or leave it!!

YAY for another great update!

My frozen pizza for dinner isn't sounding so great after seeing that dish again

I didn't interact with the characters but really enjoyed watching them!

Thanks for telling me to ask for the cowboy scene :thumbsup2

We have yet to try Brown Derby....just can't part with two table credits for that one yet.....but maybe we will have to try it next time OOP....we always have issues at DHS on where to eat, so that might solve that problem next time around. Sounds like you had a great afternoon and a wonderful lunch!!! Can't wait to see what you take in next!

Since I was on deluxe, I didn't mind spending double credits but I wouldn't do it on the regular given the other signature options. I agree, DHS doesn't have great dining options in my opinion so I would totally go back for the cobb salad. With the free bread and a drink, you've got a great meal option for a decent price!

Really? Not like the GMR? My kids love it and in all the times we've ridden it, we've only had the cowboy scene once! Lucky you!

I've never tried the BD, so I enjoyed seeing your pictures of your meal. I would have tried the grapefruit cake too--which is funny, because I don't like grapefruit, so I might be like you and not like the cake either. :confused3

How did Beth enjoy the meal? ;)

Ask for the cowboy next time! They didn't look at me strange or anything, just pointed the way!

I like grapefruit so it's not that I didn't like the cake, it was just a bit different than I was expecting.

Beth was very happy with all our meals together!

Man...wish I had a practically free trip!! :cutie: I got a PIN code for 40% off any stay, including value...only a dream at this point though!

I wish my balloons pics had come out, one was missing altogether (which was odd because the ones taken before it made it on the CD :confused3) and the other is missing the balloon effect but you see Shelby standing there with her arm in the air :lmao:

More great pictures-- that pork looks TDF! I know what you mean about eating alone-- cuts in half the things you get to eat!!

I shouldn't complain a lot I guess because my hubby almost never shares food! He gets upset if I even suggest it so I've stopped bothering. BUT that was one thing I was looking forward to on this trip so I was happy when Shelby joined me

I have a number of friends who have adopted children and the process of proving that you will be good parents, although understandable from the agency's perspective, is pretty incredible when you consider how many idiots out there manage to become parents by mistake! (as a former high school teacher, I can unfortunately think of too many examples! In fact my hubby who is well into his 40's had a student in his 9th grade classroom this year with a child in daycare with our kid :sad2:)

I was seated at a nice table overlooking the lower dining area

I just love that shot, for some reason! Such a pretty restaurant... I will have to try it sometime.

I always wondered how sweet/sour the grapefruit icing was!

I'm guessing that next you.... went to draw a Disney character!

Kathy

Great update Katie!! Brown Derby looked wonderful, I didn't know it was a 2 credit meal... I have yet to try the Dining Plan so I am not as schooled on that stuff as most! Cool that you got the cowboy scene, we did too when we went! I hope Beth continues to recover and that this more permanent surgery will help her out a lot!!!:grouphug:

Kathy

the icing was more bitter than sour, I would have preferred sweet or sour. I'm glad I tried it though!

Good guess, but not this time (don't worry, I'll be back!)

Great update! BD looks wonderful! I would love to eat there too!

I think I enjoyed it more than I expected, it's totally on my return list!

It's not a bad use of credits on the deluxe plan. I might also consider it on the regular plan if I was on the regular plan but wanted to do the Fantasmic package (don't think I would like H&V and I wasn't impressed with Mama Melroses)

I'm going to visit Beth next week so I'll keep you guys posted on her progress.

Day 2 Continued

After leaving Brown Derby, I wandered off to see what I was in the mood for. I headed in this direction

florida2010495.jpg

And like I figured, the FP’s were all gone for the day and the stand-by line too long. No worries…I will be back in a few days! I hadn’t been through this way the night before and when we were here in 2008, TSMM was open but the surrounding area wasn’t done yet so I enjoyed checking out the theming.

florida2010500.jpg

I thought I would go check out the line for the backlot tour but there was a 20 minute late. Not bad but it was already 2:30 and I wanted to catch the Block Party Bash at 3 so I kept going

florida2010502.jpg

I followed my ears to find these guys just finishing up

florida2010505.jpg

Then I just wandered a bit to take in the sights

florida2010513.jpg

I enjoyed looking at the small details like the things on the terrace

florida2010516.jpg

And laundry hanging out to dry

florida2010517.jpg

I found the smallest of rainclouds but luckily someone had left this umbrella around!

florida2010518.jpg

Then I saw this and blatantly broke my first instruction

florida2010519.jpg

I wandered into the muppet shop and broke another rule (I am several of these things after all)

florida2010522.jpg

And another

florida2010523.jpg

And…well, you get the idea!

florida2010524.jpg

florida2010526.jpg

florida2010527.jpg

Such fun things in here!

florida2010530.jpg

I sadly walked past the attraction, closed for refurb

florida2010532.jpg

And found someone else breaking the rules!

florida2010533.jpg

I found myself back on Hollywood Blvd where these guys were still at it

florida2010535.jpg

I squeezed myself under a TINY tree for the small amount of shade it provided and waited for the party to start!

florida2010538.jpg

Great update! I want to one day wander around by myself with no real agenda and notice all those little details.

Fun update!
We were in DHS last week and it was so hot. There was no shade to be found anywhere. It felt like the sun was beating directly on us. Good job finding the small tree.

Love your theming pictures of HS and your rule breaking! Can't wait to see the party parade ones...

Great update, Katie. I love all the "little" details you caputure. With Mark's surgery and rides being limited, I look forward to taking in more of the "little" things this trip. I haven't decided which park is hotter -- the Studios or the AK...both can be brutal.

Cool update Katie....love all of your rule breaking :rotfl2:....sometimes you can see much more when you take the time to look around...and up;)
Very cool picture of the balloon shadow on the ground. :thumbsup2

Tracy

I loved that update....I'm always in such a hurry most days at WDW that I forget to stop and enjoy the moments and details...thanks for the reminder;)

What a fun afternoon! I need to spend more time on the Streets of America. I've never noticed many of those details! Is it LL who searches for a door that opens on the city streets? And is it fact or fiction that some actually do? LL?? Am I nuts?

Don't everyone answer at once...

I :lovestruc Muppets. I hear that the movie hasn't changed at all but the film quality is better. That is always a must see for me. Takes me back to being a kid. But I've never noticed all those cute signs in the shop. Can't wait to go back!! I think I might need that Beaker t-shirt. I'm such a nerd! :upsidedow

This is a GREAT photo, Katie. I really love it!! It just says Disney to me.

:lmao::rotfl: Yes, Marc & I searched for open doors. Apparently they are unlocked sometimes and you can go in but I have never found one open.

We need this for Brooklynn's birthday party in August. :thumbsup2

florida2010519.jpg

Don't know why they bother to put up signs if even the finest of Disers are not going to obey. :snooty:

Depending on how many openings my collage frame has, this could be a Disney water features finalist. It's kind of fun. :goodvibes

Thanks for the walk around Hollywood Studios this evening. :thumbsup2

Katie I loved reading your update, but like Jackie I didn't get to see any pictures!!!!!

I want to see what rules you broke LOL!!!!!!!!
