I just spent $150 for my 13 year old daughter to get her hair done!

Long story short. DD asked if she could go with her friend to get a haircut and highlights. I wasn't excited about the highlights part, but since it's the last week of school I said OK. I was supposed to drive the girls, pay for my DD and drop them off. Other mother was picking the girls up and bringing them home. Well, DD called yesterday afternoon to say that the other girls mother would be in town and could now drive both ways. So, I just called the salon to pay for DDs hair. Total cost $152 PLUS tip! :scared1:

So, it's my fault that I didn't check the price ahead of time. But I couldn't tell her she couldn't go now. So, I paid it.

Very nice. Especially since after school today she has to go get fitted for her cheerleading uniform. And the approx bill given out by the school for that is $250...

I'm sorry. Maybe you can post this is the stupid money wasting post. ;)

OK, I am guilty of this too. DD was 15 at the time and went with me for a hair cut, bu then she also got her hair straightened (I didn't know it was extra) and deep conditioned (I didn't know it was extra) and something else (I don't remember what) and together with tip it was almost $170. :scared1: It all adds up quickly.

WOW! My 14 year old wants her hair highlighted but my hairdresser talked her out of it! She has beautiful healthy blonde hair that will get lighter on it's on once the sun comes out. Her friend got it done at a discount hair place and it looks fried. Too young in my opinion to start with the hair coloring, if only I didn't have to do it!!! Kind of like you can't wait to wear a bra until you actually have to every day!

Add me to the list....

Last year when DD was 16 she wanted to have her hair professionally colored...she had colored it herself with disastrous results(because she didn't listen to her mother LOL) I asked the girl that does our hair how much it would cost and she said "probably $70-80". So Dd goes and because she messed up her hair the salon had to do a double process color or something like that and it was $170...

That was a one shot deal for DD, I don't get my hair colored because I don't want to pay those prices and I am certainly not paying for DD to get hers done.

Well, my old salon charged $230 for a cut, full highlights, and blowout, so I was THRILLED to find a new salon (it's nice, but not in a nice area) that only charges $135! My friends were shocked at the price, because around here, that's a steal! I'm going to see how much they charge for a kids' cut, because my old salon charges me $35.

Been there, done that!

Wait until formal dances and proms start! My step DD had her hair done for dances - those updo's cost $75 plus tip! With 3 or 4 dances a year that's over $300!

Its a good thing I don't live near you because I'd have a full head of grey hair!:scared1: I go to the salon for a color and cut every 3 months. $75 including tip. I color it myself inbetween.

My mother forced me to get my hair highlighted and cut in December. I agreed even though I hate to get it cut since it costs money. So, we went and they did my eyebrows too which I didn't expect and stayed red and swollen for several days after. It was $100 for the cut, highlights, style and eyebrows. I hated that my mom had to pay that. I know it was her choice but still. I could have used that money for bills or eating out several times.

When I was younger I never thought much of paying to get my hair colored or permed. Now I can't believe I ever paid that much for my hair.

I do have a head of gray(ing) hair for precisely that reason. It is almost $200 just for the color at the salon I go to (which does a fab job). I do not like their cuts though, so I go somewhere else for $75 just for the cut.

I am growing out my hair. ;)

I used to spend a small fortune for a cut and highlight, the guy who used to color my hair ended up on the show "Split Ends"!! I asked around and found a woman who used to work in a high-end salon who now works out of someone's house. She has 3 kids, can make her own hours and show up to work in shorts... I now pay $65 plus tip!

My DD asked me for highlights, I'm glad I talked her into waiting. Her hair is light brown and will have blonde highlights this summer from the sun anyway. Hopefully she'll give up the idea by next fall, I'm really afraid it'll ruin her hair.

Are you sure that they didn't inadvertently charge you for both your daughter and her friend? Sounds kind of high to me. Maybe you could call the salon and ask how much it costs for highlights and whatever else your daughter had done and when they tell you see if it adds up right.

If you don't mind me asking, who was the guy who ended up on Split Ends? My dd and I have watched quite a few episodes.
Thanks!:)

I doubt it.

I just went three weeks ago and got my hair cut and becasue I wanted to "do something different" I got my hair highlighted.

Haircut + highlights + tip = $130 (maybe I was cheap on the tip, I tipped $10), so $150 is pretty close to accurate.

My MIL live sin Atlanat and once went to this fancy salon that I had seen a haircut from in one of those "hair style" magazines. She got color and cut and for her it was $150 just for that. She loved what they did, but realized that she couldn't afford to go there and maintain it, so she's back at the local MasterCuts.

Typically I just get my hair cut and that's about $50 with tip (includes shampoo and blow dry). I'd go to MasterCuts or Fantastic Sam's, btu I have had so many bad experiences with "cheap haircuts" that for me, I "truly get what I pay for." $50/haircut also explains why I only get my haircut 2x/year........

Whoa. Glad I live in Maine. It's $17 for a haircut around here! I don't get my hair colored but I always thought it was expensive at $30-70 depending on what you got done. I can't imagine paying $150 on my hair. My fancy updo for my wedding was $25!

Wow! $50 is considered a cheaper cut here in town, and it cost me $50 for dd9's Communion hair (curls).

I'm glad my sister's a hair dresser!

I go to the salon she works at about 2 times a year to get my hair cut and colored. The rest of the time she trims my bangs at our parents house or where ever we meet up. She, my other sister or mom will use the drugstore hair dye every couple of months on my hair in between the salon visits.

I pay $45 for a cut at a salon.

Next two cuts, I pay $15 for a cut at costcutters.

I color at home, I was paying $60 for a salon foil and $60 for salon haircolor. To do both (color plus highlights) would have been $120.

Pay between $15 and $25 for a manicure depending on where I go.

I found a great stylist exactly like that. She has been working at home for several years but still takes classes to stay up to date and uses high-end products.

I'm too broke right now to pay even her low price for coloring so I color at home but she does my cuts and does a great job. Last time I got a cut/style for me, same for my teen dd and a trim for my youngest for less than $40. A cut at the expensive salon I used to use was $45 for one of us plus a tip.

Last year my teen dd wanted the full treatment before a dance - every one of her friends was getting an up-do, manicure/pedicure and makeup done. I took her to a beauty school and had her brows waxed, mani/pedi & makeup done. Then we went to my "home" stylist for the up-do. Our total out of pocket was about $60! Expensive for my budget but (although grandma paid) but far less expensive than all of the other girls paid.
