For those of you wanting to trade into RCI, I say go for it. I am sure not all resorts are the same but we just got back from a week at the Playa Grande Resort in Cabo San Lucas Mexico and it was amazing! :thumbsup2

Here are the pics. They are on my Facebook so I cannot weed out the non-resort ones so sorry for that. Our view was unreal and the communication with the PG prior to arrival was excellent. Some will say it's not a "great use" of points but for us, it was perfect. :cloud9:

The resort/views look amazing. I happy to see a post from someone who traded into RCI.

My sil and I were talking about trading in about two years - and that we must think about it early.

Did you guys go swimming? How was the temperature? (we thought it was cool for us even in July (05). When did you request your trade? Just wrote down the resort and thank you.

Looks like a great trip! Thanks for sharing.

(You guys are a cute couple.)

WOW!! That looked fantastic! I'm guessing it wasn't one of the AI ones? Thanks so much for sharing- :thumbsup2

What does 'PG' mean and why were you communicating with him/her/it? We are trading (for the first time) into Hawaii next year, is this something I should be familiar with? I thought we just show up with our e-mail confirmation and that's it. Thanks for any help.

We did swim, temps were in the mid 80's- perfect! I don't remember when we requested but it only took a couple weeks to get our reuqest from the time we made it. We saw a few of the other Cabo RCI trade options are they are beautiful too.

There was an AI option available when we got there but I would never do an AI especially in Mexico. There are far too many amazing places to eat and drink and some and super inexpensive. :thumbsup2

From the OP's post, I gather that PG = Playa Grande, the destination resort traded into.

::yes::

Beautiful! I've been thinking about Cabo, I have friends that have gone and loved it and not as touristy as Cancun. I'm assuming you traded in a week? I was looking into trading into the Caribbean but nothing available as of it, so thinking possibly Hawaii but I've been there already so wanted to try someplace new.

While Cabo area has some great resorts, I'd investigate other ways to get there without using DVC points at least as a comparison. Mexico in general is usually fairly easy to trade into and/or rent. We were in MX for 2 weeks about 2 months ago with a direct ocean front view. Our total costs for the trip including air, dining and the exchange costs was under $2500 for 2 people. Our resort is part of RCI's Signature Selections and would have cost us 1500 DVC points for the 2 weeks but even for the normal HIGH season of 270 + 160 for 2 weeks (1 BR then 2 BR), it would not have been worth it for us when the total exchange only cost us around $600 for the 2 weeks. All I'm saying is to compare so you know what your options are.

It has its touristy parts but a street or two over from the marina and it's real Mexico. It was fabulous. :thumbsup2

I'm glad you had fun! Just curious, how many points did you use?

160 for a Sun to Sun stay for a one bedroom, full kitchen, 2 bathroom, ocean view, few steps from the beach- worth every point! :cloud9:

You mentioned that the all-inclusive option was very expensive. Do you mind sharing how much it was?

Hi rentayenta,
Thank you so much for sharing. I enjoy hearing about when a member uses points to trade through RCI, especially when they enjoy their stay. It looks like you had a great time and the pictures are fantastic. Thanks again for sharing. :thumbsup2

Thanks Jamie! :goodvibes

I know some say it's not the best use of points but truly, it was a great use of points for us. Went to tripadvisor to research the resort and did my homework. Sure I could have rented from an owner and banked my DVC points blah blah blah but the ease of trading into RCI and using money already spent provided great value. :thumbsup2 Well worth it and will trade again without hesitation.

A lot of resorts have meal plans that can mirror AI options. Each should be evaluated on their own merit. The plans at the Grand Mayan were 6 B'fast buffets/entrees for $99 or 6 lunch/dinner coupon's for $210. Not bad but not great. I did consider it though for a couple of reasons. We were there 2 weeks at the coupons could be spread out over that time. They were also not tied to a specific person so if we'd wanted to use one coupon then get a salad or similar, we could have. These type plans are pretty common in MX and vary in price, quality and flexibility. They also come and go fairly regularly, often vanish during high demand times.

Just found this. Beautiful pictures and so nice to hear. We want to trade out at some point - but so few people talk about it. It is nice to hear a good experience!
