Team Rebel Alliance Marches On...

Good morning,
Well for the first time since I have started jogging-running, I am on the injured list  :sad1:. I was supposed to run hills this morning but only after a couple of meters my leg hurt too much so I went back home. I have decided to take a week off and see what will happen. I don't think I will loose too much and better a week now than months later because I have decided to run injured. It sounds logical when I write it but I am not happy about it because my training was going well
I will just increase the time I take to walk the dog: she will be very happy about that.
I don't know what kind of summer we will have up north but this week will be beautifull. No rain, sunny and warm.
Have a nice day
Diane

Really sorry to hear that Diane. That's really my biggest fear, because when I've tried to get into running in the past I ended up doing too much too soon and getting injured and then I never go back to running once I'm healthy again. Following a plan has really helped me so far. I hope your legs feel better real soon so you can get back to it.

Since I finished the Runner's World beginner training plan this past weekend I don't really know how much to run. I guess my goal is to get my long run and my MPW up as much as possible between now and when I start the Goofy training program I found. My long run on the beginners plan ended up being 3.5 miles so I'm making my long run this week 4 miles. I think my miles this week will actually go down compared to last week, but I'll worry about getting my miles per week up later.

The plan I came up with for this week is 3-Mon, 2+x-train-Tues, 3 Wed, 3-Thurs, 2-Fri, 4-Sat. I plan on always running 3 the first day of my three day weekend (now starting on Thursdays), and half the distance of my long run on Friday and my long run on Saturday. I hope to do the 5k and the Goofy next January, so I want the 3 first as my 5k, then half of my long and the long as the Goofy. I'll keep that pattern as I go. What do you guys think? I hope how I explained it makes sense.

Good morning,
Day 3 of not running and it is not easy. It is a beautiful morning with the sun shining, no wind... Anyway, I think I know how I hurt myself. I was reading a running article that says that you should not run on the same side of the road all the time and for the last 15 years that is what I have been doing while running in the country: running against the traffic to be sure that I face the 2 cars :upsidedow I see every time. So I decide to stop doing that even though I never been injured before :confused3. And what happens, after only one week, I injure myself . Well lesson learned.

J-SUN: If you go on the website of runningroom.com, there is a training program for the Goofy race. Once on the site, go at the bottom right where it says ressources and then magazines. Once there go to the 2007 July-August magazine, download it and you will find a training program. I am sure it will help you. It is on page 30. That is what I will use for the Goofy in 2012.

Have a good day all. It is back to work for me today

Thanks Diane. I'll check it out.

I've heard the exact same thing about running in certain directions on the road. It makes sense since the road is crowned in the middle, the leg on the outside is lower than the inside leg. I switch directions every other day, just for that reason. So far so good.

Is your leg feeling any better today?

I switch up which side of the road I am on throughtout a run. I try to swtich to the other side in areas where I know there isn't a lot of traffic so that I will be safe, usually in cul-de-sacs and such. The constant running on a camber can iritate the IT Band. It gets a lot of people during races in Disney because the FL street peaks higher than most so the angle of the road is more severe. There are also the banks of the ramps in Disney that often trip people up.

Diana, I agree that it is better to take a small break now then than to take a much longer break after you are really hurt. And if you are still out walking your dog, I doubt you will lose too much in the way of training. Better safe than sorry.

I hope you feel better very soon.

I can't believe she did the race in loafers! I would've bought shoes at the expo.

I just couldn't imagine the circumstances that would lead her to do that. :confused3

I speak from a total non-experienced perspective, but I think you're doing an awful lot of mileage during the week with only one rest day. Since the race isn't until early next year, if it were me, I would just focus on cross training and maintaining the mileage you have now with 2 or 3 runs weekly. Then, when the Goofy training plan rolls around, just start with that.

Of course, I'm sure there are more experienced runners here who can tell you their opinions, but that is just my opinion. I would hate for you to push it so hard now just to injure yourself.

Hi J-Sun,

I'm running the Goofy next year as well.

I don't think that I could keep running for that long without having a race to aim for. I have a full marathon at the end of May and then a half at the end of September so I will be following the training plans for them and then will start a plan for the Goofy then.

That said, after I've done a race I will drop the training off significantly and then will rarely run more than 3-4 easy runs a week until the next schedule begins. I think my body needs time to recover from the intensity of training and racing, especially for a marathon

I wouldn't be able to keep my motivation up for that long without having something to aim for and I think that training hard every week between now and January would be very likely to lead to an injury.

Most training schedules seem to be about 12-16 weeks long. You could look into doing a couple of halfs and 10Ks between now and beginning training for the Goofy but don't forget to give your body time to recover.

Good Luck with all the training and see you in January at the Goofy.

Wish me luck for the Hastings Half Marathon on Sunday. I've run a pb on this course before and I've always enjoyed it, hills and all.

Hi everyone,
My name is Kristin,
I am registering for the Disney Half in Jan,2011 and hopefully for our local CASINO NIAGARA Halfmarathon in the fall.
I have fallen off of the wagon and am hoping that I can slowly achieve my goals.
My goal is to run both marathons with little walking and to learn to keep a strong consistent pace.
I completed the Disney Half in 2008 but found I was not really as strong as I would have liked.
So here goes!!!
Kristin

:welcome: to the Rebels, Kristin! You have plenty of time to get your pace up, so relax and enjoy the journey. We have a few members here who are aiming for the race in January, so you will have plenty of company. I think we have a great mix of experienced and new runners/walkers so you have great resources within the team. We're glad you've joined us! :cheer2:

The 2 cars you see every time?:lmao: I never thought about switching the sides of the road you're on. How do you do that if you're always facing the traffic? So what are you going to do so that you switch but don't keep injuring yourself?

And what a great site that Running Room is, thank you for that link! I had never heard of it before. That looks like it will have a lot of useful things.

Hi Everyone!

I've been totally MIA. Haven't been running or walking in quite some time. But I'm back on the wagon and making my way through this thread.

I started back last night with the C25K program again last night. I was successful with it last year, so I thought it would be a good place to start again this year. After I'm through with that I think I'm either going to get a coach or join a group here to keep me on track through the summer for the Wine n Dine Half. I've booked my rooms for both that and the 2011 Half, so I really need to get my butt in gear.

I'm thinking of joining a Galloway group. Does anyone have any experiences about this or any suggestions of other groups to join to keep me going?

Hope everyone is having fantastic weather like we're having here in NYC.

Happy St. Patty's Day!!!!!

Hello! I haven't checked in for awhile. Bob and I are still getting out there-we ran 4 miles yesterday in the beautiful Spring weather here in PA!
I signed up for dailymile last week and imported all my workout info from Nike+ running.

Good evening,
I am now on day 4 of rest and it is getting to me. I just hope it is for the best. But I must say that since I finish work at 00:30 AM, it is nice to sleep in the morning.
Welcome to the new memders :dance3:
Yes, during my morning run, I see always the same 2 cars: the first one is a Toyota Echo and the second one is a green Jeep. And if I am very early, I will see the school bus. I live in the country.

Morning Everyone! It has been a pretty busy week so I have missed a lot going on here! Time to catch up with things....

Good morning,
Well for the first time since I have started jogging-running, I am on the injured list  :sad1:.

Diane - How is the injury? I hope that you are getting better. :thumbsup2 I had not heard anything about running on the same side of the road (but I am so new to this whole running thing that I learn new things all the time). DH and I are always running new routes and usually run on sidewalks (down and back the same route) so I am hoping this is something I don't really need to worry about.

Wish me luck for the Hastings Half Marathon on Sunday. I've run a pb on this course before and I've always enjoyed it, hills and all.

Good Luck Liam!!!!

Hello! I love the C25K program - I think it finally taught me to do the right things to becoming a runner. I think the Wine-n-Dine sounds like a great run and how fun to have such a great race to be training for. My goal is the Princess 2011 and it still seems so far away.

Hello Barb! Glad to hear that you and Bob are still getting out there and enjoying the beautiful days.

I am going to check out dailymile. I did get rid of my Nike+ (actually DH has it) and invested in a Garmin Forerunner 305. I love it in so many ways but need to learn a bit more about it. The one thing I miss from the Nike+ is being able to add some extra comments. It might be able to do it, but I have not really read through my instruction book yet.

AFM - Alright, I am going to be honest...I am pretty nervous for my first race on Saturday. In my mind, I know that I can do a 7K. I know that I have trained properly and that I should be ready. Then, I tend to get really nervous and wonder what the heck I am thinking - I am slow, I am not really a runner yet and I don't want to embarrass myself. It does not help that on Sunday and Tuesday I had horrible runs. I am hoping tonight I have a good run so that I can feel a bit more positive about it all again.

Tonight I will be running 5K at an easy pace and making T-shirts for a group of us who are running the race on Saturday together. Friday night I will take it easy and then I will be at the race early Saturday morning. I will report back here to let you all know how it went!

Have a great day everyone!
Jen

Today I'm going to try speed work for the first time. And by speed I mean faster than a turtle. LOL. I'm following one of Galloway's training plans.

We've missed you! So glad you've found your motivation again. I'll probably be joining you for the Wine and Dine in October. I've not had any experience with a group, but I am familiar with his training plans and books, and I think he is a great resource. I would give it a go.

Totally understand your nervousness about your first race. I was a real basketcase before the Princess. Just take it one thing at a time and trust in yourself and your training. You'll do amazing! :cheer2:

What kind of shirts will you all be wearing?

It's almost the weekend, everyone! Woo hoo! I am so ready for this week to be over. Nothing really big happened, it just seemed to really drag on. No big plans for me, just chores. And some sleep!

Hi Jen!
I am so interested in how you like the Garmin Forerunner 305. My birthday and Mother's Day are coming up and I think I want to put a bug in Bob's ear for one! I am curious about the heart rate monitor. Is there a chest strap that you have to wear?
Good luck with your first race! A 7K is exciting! We have only done 5K's so far and I've gotten quite comfortable with that distance. There is a 10K locally on May 1st but I haven't had the courage to sign up~I'm not sure I'm ready! We run about 10-12 miles a week but haven't been following a plan. It seems like the plans are so long and I didn't think ahead enough time! There's another 10K in August that I think we can use as a qualifier for our corral placement for the Half in Jan. I have Galloways Half Marathon book but it is too soon to start that. I belong to a gym so maybe I should be using their services!!:rolleyes1
I'll be thinking of you on Saturday-hope the weather is perfect for you! Sounds like it will be a fun run with friends. Can't wait to hear your report!
