Much love! :grouphug:

I will say this. I used to work at McDonalds and was also going to WW at the same time. I ate McDonalds for at least two of my meals and I lost weight....a lot of weight. A lot of it is making smart choices and trying to cut calories/carbs where not needed. It's not the healthiest, but it's possible to make it healthy...or healthier. And as with any other place, there are always some options that are much better than others. It just takes some effort.

I rarely eat at McDonald's unless I am traveling. Even then, I usually get a salad or a fruit and yogurt parfait. If I want a treat, their hot fudge sundae hits the spot without being too much of a bad thing.

I don't know ... I belong to WW and one of the tenants is that NO food is off limits and that you need to learn how to fit foods into your daily calorie intake. I am a bit surprised that WW seems to sponsoring the meals as they are not the healthiest meals in the world.

I agree - it's all in moderation and fitting it into your daily calories.

OT, but Robin your daughter's hair is adorable!! The last pic I saw of her it was long - very cute!!

In case it goes unnoticed, this is in New Zealand only with "no plans" to roll it out to other countries. But still, very interesting. It kind of saddens me that WW would link itself with McD. Yes, I know that WW tries to let you know that nothing is off limits, but let's face it, there are definitely BETTER choices that you can make and still enjoy a treat.........P

Yeah it seems to be causing a bit of a stir in NZ, the points value for the meals is 6.5, and generally people start at around 20-24 points a day and then are at about 18 by goal weight on the NZ points system (don't know how the US one compares).

I could ask one of my sisters to buy a 6.5 point meal and take photos to see what it actually is in the interests of research if anyone is interested? :rotfl:

This is as good as the Taco Bell diet commercials.

I have mixed feelings about it. One the one hand the PPs are correct, if you make smart choices you can eat McD in moderation and not die of a coronary. There are some choices though that should never be touched...like any shake.

My bigger issues is more what McD represents. They have been pushing kids meals and unhealthy garbage for years trying to get kids basically hooked on the food and the toys. It also annoyed me that they were so prominent in Olympic advertising and events like the world cup. They are a company and free to do what they wish of course, provided they don't lie in their advertising, but I don't want people to associate them with elite athletes.

The general public are a bit gullible when it comes to advertising, which ultimately is their fault I understand, but I don't want people to make choices based on marketing as opposed to reality. In the end we all have free will but some of their advertising practices are a bit, shall I say, creative in their claims.

you may never eat at McDonalds again.

I agree that the basic tenet of WW is being able to eat anything in moderation, but if you are trying to be healthy, then McD's is not the place to go IMO.

But let's be realistic.... not EVERYONE on WW is trying to be "healthy".... most people are just trying to be THIN!!

McD aside, I was always shocked by finding out what people spend their points on at WW (back when I used to attend meetings regularly). The "fake" diet foods full of chemicals and artificial fats and artificial sweeteners...... the sodium laden frozen meals..... the "meal replacement" bars and drinks with unpronouncable ingredients. All of these foods have been "endorsed" at a WW meeting at some point in time it seems. WW needs to be able to appeal to the masses... and many, many people care a lot less about eating "healthy" and a lot more about just getting thin, regardless of the garbage they may be eating along the way.

Like I said before, it saddens me that WW has aligned itself with such an unhealthy company as McD.... but that won't make me give up on WW as a healthy lifestyle for myself................P

Ah ... Frankenfoods! I admit that I have some of them in my cupboard. I have frozen meals for when I don't have a lot of time, I have some Kashi granola bars for when the snackies hit, I drink two diet sodas a day. My WW leader tries to lead people away from the Frankenfoods to real food. She does it by stressing the side effects of all the Fiber One products and the positives of "eating clean". From some of the comments I have heard, the people who are around for a while eventually come around.

The way I see it is that WW also tries to help people learn to make better choices. A Filet-O-Fish with tartar sauce is 10 Points, and the WW menu items described in the link are advertised at 6.5 points (a plain Filet-O-Fish is 7 points). So if the WW item is going to steer people away from adding the extra 3 points from tartar sauce, then that is a healthIER choice, right?

Personally, if I'm going to McDonald's and wanting to stay in my daily points, I go for salad with grilled chicken and the light vinaigrette. I don't know how you could possibly call that unhealthy. (I know some people will...but generally, that is healthier than food I would make at home any given night). If I have a few extra points I might get a hamburger happy meal--10 points. Not quite as healthy but better than a Big Mac value meal. And yeah, sometimes I blow some weekly points on a Big N Tasty value meal, and I am fully aware of how unhealthy this is.

But I did want to make the point that consumers really do have the opportunity to eat healthy food at McDonald's, and even if they choose not to eat a salad, there are usually healthIER options than what the person might normally order.

I think the same logic applies to Taco Bell's "diet" plan, if you look at their website. They are not exactly claiming their diet is healthy, but it is saying "Look at some of our healthIER options."

And finally, a pet peeve of mine lately is that the WW eating out guide seems to be listing fewer options than it did in the past. For example, I know they used to list the cheddar biscuits at Red Lobster, and they don't anymore (I have an older book and the book from last year. I keep one in my car and the other in DH's car). We only go to Red Lobster when we're shopping in a bigger city an hour away, and it's usually a spur-of-the-moment decision. So I'm in the car, without Internet access, and I look up the restaurant in the guidebook, and it only has like 3 options listed. I know the biscuits aren't the best choice there, but geez, give me the information so I can make the decision myself.

So given that pet peeve of mine, I think I'd prefer there to be more WW-endorsed options everywhere (regardless of whether they are truly healthy or not), because whether I choose to eat those items or not, at least I would have made a more informed decision. I don't know if that makes a lot of sense, but that is my preference!
