Refund for shortened Feb. 13/14 Magic Eastern cruise?

I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing problems getting their refund straightened out? We were all told that 20% of the fare would be refunded when the cruise was shortened. In my case, 3 passengers were booked on DVC points and then many months after the reservation was made, we added a 4th person and paid cash . They gave us 1 credit (posted to my onboard account while on the ship) but cannot/will not tell me how much each person's share of the credit is. Assuming that the 1st and 2nd passenger's share is more than the 3rd and 4th since they pay more, but how to figure that out remains a mystery.

The 4th person is a friend who decided to join us and I want to make sure that she receives her fair refund, but how do I determine what that is?

DCL won't talk to me because DVC is, in effect, my "travel agent". DVC was very snippy today and blamed the cruise line for not giving more information. All in all, I got nowhere!



Any thoughts?

Maybe I am missing something as the answer seems obvious to me. You give passenger number four 20% of whatever amount she contributed toward the cabin before the taxes.

I made our deposit on my Disney Visa. I checked earlier this week and I do have a credit on my cc account from Disney.

since three of you were on dvc points, are they going to refund you points? I am a bit confused on how that works. the fourth passenger i guess would get 20% of the base rate that was paid. taxes and port fees aren't eligable for refunds.

That's what I would think as well. 20% of whatever was paid.

I was told that we were getting 20% off plus the refund of the port fee for St Marteen. I did recieve a credit on my credit card but I don't think that I recieved 20%. It's approx $300 difference. I haven't had a chance to call them yet. The $300 isn't tax related but if I'm paying 20% less my tax ought to be discounted 20% also. The shipboard credits were not the refund.

We got a letter while onboard that said they could not credit points and were crediting our shipboard account in cash, which they did. We were told that any refund not used by the end of the cruise would be mailed to us. I do have a check coming.

As far as cash, we were told that credit would be made to the method it was originally paid by. In my case the cash fare was charged to my Disney VISA. After reading here that people are seeing their credit posted, I checked mine online. Nothing. So I called DCL to inquire, they refer me to DVC and I am told that the credit I got onboard is for all of us. The amount doesn't seem to make sense for all 4 of us based on what others have received for points, so I asked for a breakdown of how that amount was calculated. They claim they cannot do that.

Obviously we know what the cash payment was. What we don't know is what portion of that was eligible for a refund. What is port charges for other ports, taxes, etc. If we knew the figure they were working with, we could figure out what part of the refund was intended for the friend who paid cash. I really don't think it's too much to ask Disney to tell me how that refund was figured. First and second passengers in our cabin on points, third on points and fourth on cash. FRUSTRATING!

The 20% would only be on the price of the cruise -- not including taxes, port fees, etc. I believe that's why someone posted in another thread that they were only getting a 14% refund.

The "price" to you may include everything, but the "price" to Disney is just the cruise portion.

(Can't speak to the port fee part - I thought they didn't refund those, but perhaps this is a special case).

Voyage fare is just the price of the cruise -- so the first thing on your receipt before they add transfers, taxes, etc. The fact that they specifically called out St. Maarten as a special additional refund in the letter leads to the conclusion that other port fees and charges are not included in the refund.

I'm sure Disney has that phrase defined somewhere in their terms and conditions, but I'm too lazy to go dig out my paperwork from our cruise.

Doesn't make it any better for you, of course.

I actually think they made it pretty clear in that letter that they'll be discounting the cruise fare, not including the taxes. Especially since the taxes for St Maarten are listed as a separate item that will be refunded also. I can see why people are a bit confused, but once it's explained I don't see why they'd be irate about it. It's not like sales tax where a lower total reduces the overall tax paid. These taxes are based on the ports used during the cruise, and are the same for everyone regardless of category booked.

I think everyone alive would have assumed that the line on the receipt that says Fare is the line that they would use to calculate the 20% . It's on the upper right hand side of the confirmation or receipt that I have from Disney it shows.

A response to me today from Disney Cruise Line says that the Fare is made up of two types, neither of which is printed on anything that I've ever received. Compensated and Non Compensated....... The Fare is the Fare minus $159 per person in your party then the 20% comes off.

If they had explained that when they told us the 20% would come off, then there would be no confusion or hard feelings. To expect 20% off the fare and only get 20% off of the fare after $159 is deducted per person seems not only confusing but just a little sneaky and a poor choice.

I hope Disney corrects this for everyone. 20% off the Fare means 20% off the Fare not 20% of what's left and we do some secret math.

I'm appreciative of what Disney is doing to compensate people, but lets do it above board.

I presume that 159 is the built in gratuities? I guess they don't advertise how much in gratuity they charge per cruise.

DCL does not charge gratuities. They can be added to your shipboard account, but they do NOT do it automatically.
