free tickets to Kennedy Space Center

Well dang. I am in TX too so I guess I should not bother. Did you contact Kay Bailey Hutchison's office? Since up for Gov I was wondering if they would "dig harder" to accommodate.

I haven't contacted either Senator -- this was Rep Michael Burgess' office. I did respond to his staff member with some of the very specific details that others had posted. We shall see if I get a response back.

You should try it, just because I was told "No" doesn't mean you will be. If you do have success, could you let me know?

tom

edit -- I just noticed your city, I think you have Rep Burgess as well, so it would be really interesting if you had success and I didn't :)

I also live in Texas, Southeast Texas. My rep is Kevin Brady. emailed him yesterday. If I don't hear anything I will try Kay Bailey. Doesn't hurt to try!

My sister got some last year from our Congressman (John Shadegg, AZ 3rd district). :thumbsup2

She had sent the email quite a few months before our trip and then resent it about 60 days out and got a reply pretty quickly after that.

Illini_fan, I'm betting the staff assistant wasn't aware that they could give you regular admission tickets.

You might be right, I haven't heard back on my follow-up request, so hopefully the staff member is doing some research. I'll give it a couple of days and try again.

It seems that everyone goes through their House member and not their Senate member. Any reason for that?

I think because we were just told to "ask your congressman".

Maybe Senators are just too :snooty: to deal with their constituents. :lmao:

Really, probably because your congressman represents a smaller group of people (for most states), and this type of request would just be more easily handled through them.

I just emailed mine yesterday, we will see what happens. My trip is next Saturday so not sure if I'll get a quick response( hope so) and be able to go to KSC then or not. I live in FL.

Update: The staff member indicated she emailed the Congressional liaison at NASA about the passes.

I'll post another update when I hear back.

Just recieved a response on my request here in Florida from Bilirakis' asst---says he has sent a request to his "contact and NASA" and will let me know......fingers crossed!

Update on my attempt to get tickets. This was received from my congressman's office this morning.

Mr Illini_Fan

I heard back from our NASA Congressional liaison and to submit a request I need the date you would like to tour the Kennedy Space Center. She did warn me that that there are very few available passes, so the sooner I submit it the better. Hopefully we can get this worked out.....

Staff Asst

I promptly replied with the date we are interested in -- hopefully it will work out.

I heard back as well, she asked me for how many in my party, the head of the party, how many kids and the date we would be attending...she then said she would let me know when she hears back. I hope we can get them! This was for Representative Paul Hodes in NH :) :) :)

Well, I heard back, she said that the allotment for April was completed some while back and it is best to try to get the tickets at least 6 months in advance. She was extremely nice about it though:) Oh well, we'll just to have to figure out what else to do after getting off the ship...we are thinking of driving to St. Augustine...

Tropicana has a buy one get one free offer to KSC in their new points promotion. My family loves OJ so I'm sure we can drink our way through 9 points (x2) so we only need to purchase 2 tickets for admission. Check out the back of your OJ carton.

Also a very nice spot to visit! ::yes::

oooh, I will check it out!

I emailed my congressman (Missouri) just a few days ago requesting the tickets for March 20. I got a reply from a staffer that said they have to have 3 months notice because of the constant high volume of requests. :sad2: She did say that she had put in a call to their NASA liason to see if there was still a small chance...it was nice to hear she tried.

This is great info that I will share with my fellow Missourians, though. Next time I'll request in advance!

I just heard back from my congressman's office. I was also told that the allotment for April are gone.

This was the statement from a NASA employee that was attached to the e-mail.

"Unfortunately, we have consumed our monthly allocation for April and complimentary passes are no longer available. Tickets may be purchased at the Visitor Center on the day of the tour."

It appears that we would have gotten them if we had tried earlier.

Here is the deal with the Tropican offer. You need 9 Tropicana pts (3 cartons of OJ) to redeem for a BOGO offer. The offer only works with their deluxe package of admission, bus tour and lunch with an astronaut. These package cost $82 per adult and $59 per child. So if I get my husband to also collect points we could each order 1 adult 1 child ticket for $164 total (w/o promotion this would cost $282) a savings of $118. Just paying for General Admission for a family of 4 would be $132. So for an extra $32 you would also get lunch and a bus tour.

On another note, just heard back from my senator's office wanting to know the full names of our party. Fingers crossed.
