SOOZE Return of the Band Geeks! What's Next Update! p.25 10/10

Good snowy morning, everyone! Today seemed like the PERFECT day to get my new PTR going, since it says "Spring Break"... and I'm looking out the window at snow, wind, ice, and a full driveway that needs to be shoveled!

P1050561.jpg

Look at my over-acheiving neighbor. He has been shoveling since 7am. Silly man!

Yes, it looks inviting, doesn't it? But my robe is fuzzy, my coffee is warm, and the DIS is demanding my attention!

Welcome, everyone, to my official RETURN of the BAND GEEKS Pre Trip Report! If you've been with me before, feel free to check in and say HI, but you probably don't need to read much of this first post, because you already know all of us!;)

If you're new, HOORAY!!! So glad you found me! If you have nothing else to do (maybe because you're under 24 inches of snow somewhere out east), you can click on the underlined dates in my signature, and they will bring you to my old trip reports! Most of them have convenient links on the very first thread, so you won't have to spend a lot of time scrolling! Cool, eh?

So LET's GET THIS GOING!!!!

Part I: Introductions
Our Family (Band Geeks 1) We live in Avon, IN, which is about 5 miles West of Indianapolis. GO COLTS!!

me (Susie): I am 36 years old. I am a 4th grade teacher. I used to perform and teach color guard. I am now a community theater addict. Just got cast in Oliver! at a local theater.
Favorite ride: Expedition Everest
Favorite restaurant: 50s PTC
Favorite character: Ariel
Favorite movie: The Little Mermaid/ Toy Story 'trilogy'!

Tonga Toast... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

DH (Matt): He is 37 years old. He is an associate band director at Avon High School (for those of you in the band world, that's pretty sweet!). He is also in charge of the brass line for the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps (and for those of you in the Drum Corps world, that is also pretty sweet!). The man is more addicted to DisneyWORLD than anyone I know! He convinced me to buy into DVC a few years ago, and it was the best thing our family EVER did! (he also convinced me to get an iPhone.. which was another fabulous idea.. but that's for another post, right?!)
Favorite ride: Soarin'
Favorite restaurant: O'Hana or California Grill
Favorite character: Mickey, the mouse himself!
Favorite movie: Up

P1050323.jpg

He also has the most sarcastic sense of humor EVER. This is the look I get when I try to take pictures of his food for the DIS!

P1050384.jpg

Just so you can see we have normal smiles and we do enjoy each other!

DS (Tyson): Tyson is 9 and is truly a budding addict. We have absolutely brainwashed this kid into thinking the world revolves around the Epcot ball! He is a video game lover (yes... we limit his time... calm down!), he has been taking piano lessons for a year, and is actually getting decent!, he is also a huge Yankee fan (thanks, again, to parental brainwashing) and enjoys following sports. Not playing sports, following them. Let's face it, he is doomed to band geekness like his parents! Oh, he also got cast in Oliver! as one of the orphans and a member of Fagin's gang. We will get to perform together!:thumbsup2
Favorite ride: Mission:Space
Favorite restaurant: O'Hana
Favorite character: Mickey
Favorite movie: WallE

08DisneySurprise154.jpg

This was from summer 08, but Ty wanted the picture of him and WallE since that's his favorite movie, duh!

DD (Shaelyn): Shae will be 4 on this trip (her birthday is Valentine's Day:love:) She is our little red-headed GIRLY GIRL!! She is ALL about princesses and fairies. In my opinion, she is RIPE for this trip. She LOVES meeting all the characters, and she LOVES sitting through shows, parades, performances of all kinds. She is taking dance class, and, if I'd let her, she'd live in her costumes and makeup!! She is also a FABULOUS singer and I'm hoping she will blossom into a true band/ music geek like the rest of us!
Favorite ride: It's a Small World
Favorite restaurant: Cinderella's Royal Table
Favorite character: Cinderella
Favorite movie: The Little Mermaid

Don't you just want to curtsey and say, "Yes, your majesty"?

Their Family (Band Geeks 2)

Last year, we took a spring break trip with some band-lovin' friends of ours. They actually live right around the corner from us, and Dean and Matt teach together at Avon. As soon as we got home last year, we knew we had to do it again! I don't have a lot of pictures of them, but here are their introductions:

Dean Orchestra diva extraordinaire! Started the program from scratch at Avon. He also teaches the marching band with Matt and he arranges for, and works with Drum Corps during the summer as well. UBER band geek!! (and I mean that with the utmost respect!!) Dean is HILARIOUS!!! You cannot be in a room with this man for longer than 10 minutes without laughing hysterically. He is completely in love with Disney. Completely. When he found out I made dining reservations online, he was appalled. He couldn't believe I didn't want to call and speak with a magical Cast Member!

Adrianna Dean's wonderful wife! She has to put up with all of his shenanigans! She's super friendly and a big lover of gardening. This will be the 2nd time we are going during flower and garden time at Epcot. Hopefully, she'll be able to get more pictures during this trip than last time!
Last year, as we were pulling away from our homes to make the drive to FL, she handed us two full CDs of Disney music! It was such a nice treat to have a potpourri of tunes to keep us occupied for a few hours!

Abby Abby is 11 or maybe she'll be 12 by the time we go. She, like our children, is the product of band geekiness!! She and Tyson get along SO incredibly well, because they share the same sense of humor. We are very excited that the two of them will have each other again on this trip. It makes for GREAT pool-dates, too!

ENJOY!! And thanks for reading!!!:dance3:

HI Susie, thought I would start reading along! I have been a "lurker" on your past TR, so I am going to get right in from the start on this one!! Your kiddos are so cute and I LOVE band geeks, in fact I married one:lovestruc My husband was (and in MY opinion still is), an awesome snare drum player. He is already grooming two more drummers at our house, my son and daughter:

HOORAY!! I'm so glad you came out of lurkdom to join in the fun!

I see you're from Minnesota.... what part? My brother in law lives in downtown Minneapolis and is a band director up there, too (not sure of the school name, but I could find out).

I've been trying to convince Tyson to be a drummer (percussionist, to be more proper!), but he insists on playing trumpet like his dad! Did your husband march anywhere? (band/drum corps?)

I am looking forward to your next report so signing on.

I was never a band member, but was on the Drill team for 3 years in high school back in the late 60's. That hurt to admit I am getting old. Hopefully the fact I have a cousin that is married to a band director in Tn., and a good friend's daughter is a assistant band director in a high school south of Atlanta, will still qualify me to continue reading the band geek reports.

Subbin'
I was lured in by the fact that ya'll are fellow Yankee fans. So, of course I had to join in:-)

AWESOME! We love Yankee fans around here. Of course, I'll let Boston fans read along, if they're well-behaved...;) Glad you're here!

First, I have to say I LOVED your reason for editing! That is classic!

Next, I have to say that I LOVE that you were on the Drill team... that TOTALLY classifies you as a band geek, of course!

Finally, to anyone reading, you don't HAVE to be a band geek to read this PTR!! I promise I won't be TOO nerdy...

:rolleyes:well, I'll try...

Hi Sooze, I read your SSR anniversary TR this morning (thanks for the links!)!! A VoL fan, :cool1: so of course had to read more about you :lmao:

My DH and I are singers (can we be honorary band geeks? :rotfl:) and we absolutely adore VoL, catch every set we can when we go to EPCOT. When I was a little girl, I always said, I want to be one of the VoL ;)

Joining you for the PTR popcorn::

AWESOME!!! I'm so glad you found me! I consider myself more of a singer now than a band geek, so you are more than welcome to consider yourself an honorary one!

VoL is SOOOOOOOO amazing. I'm 36 years old and I'm still hoping to be one of them when I grow up!:rotfl:

Thanks for joining us!

We're from the St. Paul suburbs, east-side! My DH played just in the High School band and then the school he went for college didn't have a great music program so he stopped playing. :( We do LOVE to watch the JAMMitors at Epcot on our trips! I think he secretly wants to be a member!!:goodvibes

Hi Susie! I'm joining in on the fun!! :goodvibes I just found your PTR! My DH is up in IN a lot for work--his company's headquarters are in Columbus, IN. I see that you are involved in theater!! I was big into theater when I was in high school--I was in all of the plays and musicals. (so I was more of the choir/theater geek way back when) Now DH and I sing together in church and we've been chosen to narrate our Easter musical this year! My DDs are also following in our footsteps--they LOVE to sing! It's so cute!! Oh--and I'm a former teacher--I used to teach Kindergarten before my girls were born! Your kiddos are adorable BTW!! I look forward to reading all about your trip!! We're going to WDW in May and Nov/Dec!! We can't wait!! :goodvibes

Well, that is a well-qualified band geek background for sure! Hopefully he can live vicariously through your kids!

YAY! I'm so glad you found me. I'd love to know what plays and shows you've been in. It's always fun to compare with fellow theater geeks! Sounds like we have lots in common. I taught kindergarten for 3/4 of a year (I took over for a disability leave)... scariest few months of my life. God bless the kindergarten teachers!!:worship: Can't wait to share more with you!
Hooray - I'm in before the trip gets started for once! :rotfl2:
:dance3: V's HERE!!! HOORAY!!! :dance3:

Thanks!! It does sound like we do have a lot in common!! :goodvibes Here are the shows I've been in: I was Phyllis Dale in 42nd Street, Emily in Our Town, the girl's trio in Oklahoma!, Ms. Maudie in To Kill A Mockingbird, and Marian in The Music Man. I took Theatre Production my Junior and Senior years of high school and was in a bunch of One Act plays as well. :goodvibes

Sooze:

I have read your other reports so I will come out of lurkdom. Sorry, no band geek here---I took piano for two years and still suck at it! And, no singer---we won't even go there. But, my son has luckily inherited my mom's gift at piano (she plays by ears---beautiful!) and is only 7 and plays very well. I believe he may have a little of her gift.

Your snow pictures are all too familiar. I am in southern Ohio and the stuff keeps coming down! I am ready for it to stop.

Look forward to hearing about your great trip.

Erika

Wow! You've had some GREAT roles! Marian in Music Man is a dream role of mine. Unfortunately, I am now of Widow Peru age.... no more Marian dreams for me..:sad2:

Here's my quick rundown: I was Robin in Godspell (Day by Day song!), Mayzie LaBird in Seussical: the Musical, Miss Flannery in Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, in the ensemble for Sound of Music and Miss Saigon, and I just finished playing "myself" in Jerry's Girls, which was a musical review of Jerry Herman music. Up next.. ensemble in Oliver! I just LOVE doing community theater!!:lovestruc

Wow... I never knew I had lurkers! That's so exciting! Thanks for speaking out.. and welcome to my next PTR!! How awesome that your son is a budding pianist.. at SEVEN!! That is GREAT! Tyson has been plunking away for about a year, and is getting better, but I don't think he's got any inherited talents!

Enjoy your snow! I LOVE snow... if it's going to be cold and miserable, it might as well be white and pretty!!

Thanks again for joining me!
